After just two minutes, City conceded a penalty when Aaron Cook brought down Luke Moore and Mark DeBolla converted. But five minutes before half-time Robbie Matthews got on the end of a Jonathan Bass cross to equalise. And Matt Tubbs grabbed the winner in the 50th minute when he collected a loose ball 12 yards out and swept powerfully across keeper Scott Tynan. 4 points out of 6 so far :)

Matt Tubbs gave the home side the lead when he converted a 30th-minute penalty after he had been fouled by Curtis Ujah, who was promptly dismissed. Robbie Matthews converted a right-foot shot for a second and Andrew Sandell made it three after the break from close range. Guy Madjo headed a consolation for Crawley but Liam Feeney settled matters in the 75th minute. 2nd in the Blue Square Premier to Torquay who came down last season.

The pair go head-to-head in Premier League combat for the first time at Eastlands on Sunday when Manchester City look to extend their 100 per cent start to the campaign at the expense of local rivals United. There will be almost as much fascination about what is happening in the respective dug-outs as there will be with the game itself, given the repeated disputes that erupted between former England coach Eriksson and Ferguson over the release of players for international duty. Yet Eriksson has claimed the rows were never personal, merely the result of a territorial war which neither man wanted to lose. "It is not true to say we don't get on very well," reflected the Swede. "I don't have any problems with Sir Alex. It is the jobs that don't interact. "Of course, we had differing opinions when I was doing my previous job - especially about friendly games. "He defended the interests of Manchester United, and I tried to defend the interests of England. It is nothing personal - it comes with the job." In fact, now he has returned to club management after a new-seven year absence Eriksson is joining Ferguson among those disgruntled bosses resigned to losing players against their will. "When I was at Lazio I had some furious rows with the Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi, because he took players who were half-injured," he recalled. "Next week, it is not my wish for Elano to play for Brazil against Algeria. There is no point asking about it. If you are Brazilian, playing for Brazil is a must." After finding themselves at odds in the tug-of-war between club and country, Eriksson and Ferguson are now responsible for the fortunes of the blue and red halves of a football-mad city. Decades For the two decades Ferguson has been in town, only the red flag has been raised. Yet in just two games, Eriksson has served notice he could be more of a problem to the Scot than the other 11 managers who have come and gone during his time at Old Trafford. The Swede really will send Ferguson into a fury if he can repeat the historic derby-day feat that earned Eriksson a permanent honour at the Lazio training ground. "There is still a golden plate there commemorating the achievement of winning five derby matches against Roma in a row, which had never happened before," he said. "I don't know how the Manchester derby will compare to the one in Rome - but I can tell you that was no joke, and lots of fans from the losing side did not go into work the following day." Fruitless With his efforts at bringing in a more experienced goalkeeper so far proving fruitless, Eriksson will be forced to rely on Kasper Schmeichel - son of United Champions League hero Peter. Even though City have started the season so well - and will still head Ferguson's men in the table if they lose - Eriksson recognises Sunday's encounter, followed by next week's trip to Arsenal, represents a major test of their recent improvement. Although nothing can be taken for granted in the white-hot atmosphere of derby day, it appears unlikely there will be a repeat of the behaviour which should have seen Michael Ball sent off in the opening minutes of last season's corresponding fixture. "I am not going to tell my players to kick theirs," said Eriksson, who is expected to name an unchanged side for the third game running. "That is not my tactic, I can promise you that. We should concentrate on playing football - that is our strength as far as I can see." Neither is Eriksson wary about the performance of referee Mark Clattenburg. While Ferguson has chosen to reignite the debate over refereeing displays in the aftermath of Cristiano Ronaldo's midweek red card at Portsmouth, Eriksson has managed Serie A - where recent history suggests a different level of influence over officials entirely. "Of course, English referees make mistakes - but they do that everywhere," he said. "English referees are also fair. You never need to suspect that you are giving help to one team or another. "In some of the places I have been to before there have been suspicions that maybe some big clubs had received favours. "You never need to have that discussion in this country."

Remember, Dave, I have family who are season ticket holders at Pompey, and I've been to as many games there than I have up in Newcastle. ;D I owe my uncle a day of my life as his slave cause I stupidly predicted Newcastle to finish higher than Pompey last season. Oh, and Matt Taylor's been my favourite player for about 5 years now. Before all the bandwagon jumpers :P Newcastle had a bore draw with Villa. Long way away from contending. It's weird, cause our defense looked good, while our attack couldn't do anythin.
