The Pilgrims lost their Football League status last season, but received a further demotion at the Blue Square Premier's annual general meeting. The decision, which means a reprieve from relegation for Altrincham, results from Boston's financial problems. Blue Square Premier chief executive John Moules said: "They're in breach of certain rules, it was felt Blue Square North was the best place for them." Boston were given a 10-point deduction to compound their relegation from the Football League as they went into administration. The terms of the Company Voluntary Liquidation entered into by Boston to go into administration, are behind the club's demotion. Moules said: "The Inland Revenue put a caveat on that CVA that Boston could not pay football creditors. "That breaks Football Association, Football League and Football Conference rules and regulations. "We're giving Boston the opportunity to re-establish themselves as a leading club outside the Football League. "They believe the decision we have made is fair and just, and they are not going to appeal." "We had meetings all day on Friday with Boston United and then informed Altrincham that they were staying up." Boston's financial problems led to charges for former manager Steve Evans and ex-chairman Pat Malkinson of conspiracy to cheat the public revenue. Evans was given a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years after admitting the offence, Malkinson was given a two-year suspended sentence after admitting a similar offence. Altrincham's relegation reprieve was their second in successive seasons. The Cheshire club finished in the relegation places in the 2005-06 season after they were deducted 18 points for fielding an ineligible player, but they were saved by Scarborough's financial problems. The decision to demote Boston into Blue Square North division - formerly the Conference North - will be contested by Worksop, who were relegated from the division into the Unibond Premier League. Worksop will argue that Boston should have been relegated from the Blue Square Premier altogether. Chairman Howard Raymond told the Non-League Paper: "The Conference rules must cover all three leagues, and we will be asking our lawyers to study this closely and will almost certainly lodge an appeal." Magpies boss Sam Allardyce is furious that the £5.5m switch has stalled over a £300,000 fee possibly owed to Barton. "I've spoken to City's chief executive Alistair Mackintosh, Joey and his agent and I intend talking to Sam," said PFA official Mick McGuire. "We're looking for an amicable conclusion," he added. Barton, 24, is contractually entitled to the pay-off if he leaves the club without requesting a transfer, but City are refusing to give him the money because they say he was not forced to leave. Allardyce is angry with City for the hold-up and said: "They're out of order. I'm flabbergasted and want the situation resolved. "I cannot understand it because City didn't pay anything for this player as he came through the youth system and they are selling him for over £5m. "All I know is that this is a matter for Joey to sort out and I hope it is resolved as it has stopped him putting pen to paper." Berisha told Hamburg's website: "I held positive talks with the management and I had a good feeling about the move." June 18, 200719 yr Blades set for Kabba probe Sheffield United could be the subject of an investigation for allegedly breaching the same rule that they want to see West Ham relegated for, according to a newspaper report. The Yorkshire club believe they have a realistic chance of being reinstated to the Premier League when their case is heard on Monday, at the expense of West Ham, following the irregularities that occurred as a result of the third party ownership issues involved in the transfers of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. However, in a further twist, the Premier League have now confirmed that they are to look at Steve Kabba's transfer from Sheffield United to Watford, with the possibility of third party interference being investigated. Kabba was not allowed to face former club Sheffield United following his switch to Vicarage Road in January and the Premier League are eager to learn why the player was deemed ineligible - as any attempt to block the striker from appearing would contravene existing laws. "The current rule makes clear that once a move becomes permanent there can be no contractual terms to prevent a player playing against his old club," a Premier League spokesman told the News of the World. "The statements surrounding the Steve Kabba transfer were brought to our attention late on Friday and early next week we will look at our documentation and ask our two clubs to submit any further documents, or agreements, for scrutiny." The case mirrors that of Tim Howard, who was prevented from playing against Manchester United, despite the fact a deal had been put in place for the American to move to Goodison Park on a permanent basis. However, Sheffield United plc chairman Kevin McCabe insists his club have nothing to hide and he firmly believes that this case has no parallels with that which occurred at West Ham. "Our contract for the transfer of Steve Kabba to Watford was open, was honest, was properly examined by the Premier League and the player was registered," McCabe told Sky Sports News. "There wouldn't be any condition in our contract when we transferred him to Watford. I'm sure there wasn't a feature in his contract. "I'm sure that the contract of transferring Steve Kabba from Sheffield United to Watford complied with all the requirements of the Premier League without any shadow of doubt. "We’re talking about two Argentina internationals (Tevez and Mascherano), one of which has played for West Ham virtually all of the season. I don't think there's any comparison whatsoever."

Barcelona will pay £16 million for Henry, who has signed a four-year deal. Henry has been with Arsenal since 1999, scoring a club record 226 goals in 364 appearances for the Gunners. He helped the London club win two Premier League titles and four FA Cups. Bookmakers William Hill immediately offered odds of 7/2 that Henry would be the top scorer in the Spanish league next season. Henry's agent, Jerome Anderson, recently denied reports he was negotiating the player's move to Barcelona. Henry, who turns 30 in August, still had three years left on his contract. But speculation of his departure increased after Arsenal failed to win a trophy last season and finished only fourth in the Premier League for the second year in a row. Henry acknowledged he was upset that David Dein, who was responsible for bringing manager Arsene Wenger to the club in 1996, quit as vice chairman of Arsenal. Spurs will pay a club record £16million for Bent, with £13m payable now and a further £3m in success-related add-ons. While the transfer fee eclipses the £10.9m paid for Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov last summer and the White Hart Lane record of £11m for Ukrainian flop Sergei Rebrov in 2000, Bent's decision to accept £45,000 a week over five years, rather than £75,000 a week at Upton Park, is even more staggering. The 59-year-old has signed a three-year deal worth a reported £9m - and is set to be given a £50m transfer kitty. The appointment was triggered by former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's acquisition of more than 75% of City shares. "I'm delighted and honoured to be City manager. It's an exciting challenge," the Swede told the club website. He added: "I've already started making preparations for the new season. I want to deliver a team that our fantastic fans can be proud of." It is believed Tord Grip will again be the Swede's right-hand man. Grip was Eriksson's number two during the former Lazio, Sampdoria and Benfica's six-year tenure as England manager. Roland Anderson, who is currently Sweden's assistant manager, is also expected to join Eriksson's backroom team. Eriksson has succeeded Stuart Pearce, who was sacked at the end of last season. The Swede, who met the City players and took a training session on Wednesday, has been out of football since leaving the England job after the 2006 World Cup.
