busybeeburns
Given the fact that quite a lot of us are now getting very agitated about news to the point its becoming unhealthy, it's time to start looking back on the last 12 months (nearly) and seeing what has gone right and wrong with 'Prospekt'. We've been constantly given an inch of news and have wanted to take a mile. Some of it has been cryptic and not much use, some of it has given us clear progress. On average it's been 5-6 weeks between updates, a long time for anyone to cope with when they're clicking the button every 5 minutes. Now a tracklisting that was 'finalised' last week still hasn't been announced. Reports are now popping up daily around the world about Coldplay's album being called "Viva La Vida" when clearly it isn't. Are the media now ignoring the Prospekt oracle? We have even seen reports that Coldplay have actually changed the album title because of reaction to what Prospekt has posted. Was it all a big blunder between those at Rolling Stone and those at Coldplay HQ, or was it a major coup to generate more interest? Would it have been better to simply "announce" album updates on an ordinary news blog or via a mailing list, or was Prospekt the right thing to do? Some have enjoyed the updates by Prospekt and some have ridiculed the time it's taken for announcements along the way. But without Prospekt we'd all still be in the dark (apart from an erroneous Rolling Stone article) and we wouldn't have known where Coldplay have travelled along the way to record this album, or even what they've been doing when they got there. A simple question therefore remains... was the whole Prospekt thing a good idea.. yes or no?
cpfan50
Well, I guess that they did it in order to stir up a little intrigue and anticipation about the album so I guess it was a good idea in that respect. They got what they wanted - everyone has been posting like crazy about the album titles, track listing etc.
Eh Steve!
Prospekt gave us the information, but it was always off. I think its good, and it gives us someone besides the band to blame for all this delay
Fixed
The tracklisting should have been finalised last Friday and we haven't heard anything. That's my major gripe with Prospekt at the moment, but I'm willing to forgive if it's posted by the end of this week. EDIT: Sorry that doesn't really answer the question does it. Hmm, I'm undecided. Mimixxx
I am for Prospekt. Given how cagey Coldplay have been in the past I think that without Prospekt we would've had barely any information at all. As for the agitation I think it's a very good tool for building anticipation and therefore hype. I mean there's never been so many posts about a new album with so little solid info before. As for the media, that's just laziness. They've all copied off one another with none of them bothering to check the information.
winigwl
the fact that they have prospekt delivering the news is irrelevant. they would otherwise probably be posted without an author
Mimixxx
Nah, there was nothing like this pre X&Y. All the information just sort of came at once. Nothing for months then suddenly "oh we're headlining glasto, single will be Speed of Sound, album X&Y ok bye"
ApproximatelyInfinite
yes, i would have gone insane without the tiny tidbits that prospekt provided for us, so i'm going to say he was a good thing. but didn't his mother ever teach him to keep his promises and be punctual?! i get mad with the late entries and the huge gaps between them, and just their general vagueness. all in all, though, a very good thing. Space Cadet
Kept me sane. Sent words shimmering into the great dark abyss of silence. I'm greatful. It's all good. Can't help wonder if they're still fighting over the tracklisting, though.... :sneaky::laugh3:
miss capa
Jonny: No Chris, we are not putting in that R.E.M cover not matter how much you want it on the album *stamps foot*
yamfox
If we wouldn't have had Prospekt, we would not have known nearly as much as we actually do.
Tnspieler1012
Chris: Okay, fine...but we're still gonna add... Guy: No Ricky Martin covers either! Chris: Damn! You guys are no fun, I suppose it isn't worth mentioning the madonna cover I recorded last night... Will: (shakes head)
murphy
I think prospekt was a very good thing! Even though there was like 5-6 weeks between every posts... they gave us good information! And yes, we are all waiting on the tracklisting, which is now done. But maybe there's a reason why it takes so long... or maybe they want to post the tracklisting along with the 1st single or the anticipated violet hill... or the new website??... we never know what's going to happen, but i personnaly think the next post will be huge... BostonSportsTD
yeah i think it was a good idea... although it sucks waiting so long between posts and guessing at things all the time... at least it makes it kind of fun. i mean imagine if one day in february they had just announced EVERY detail about the album. what would we have to talk about? prospekt may make things more painful but that will just make it even sweeter when we actually get some new music. KissesBirds
Yeah, it was good. They have been teasing us for months. Great foreplay!:shocked2:
Cobalt
Yes... but Prospekt is still (atrociously so) terrible at meeting deadlines for information.
lostsides
Yes. With X&Y we knew pretty much nothing until Coldplay started playing live again. A studio diary (or whatever you want to call it) is a good thing but I don't think Prospekt has a duty to post an entry every week or whatever. Maybe that's what some people want, they get angry and feel that Prospekt should do that just because they're fans but...meh, he doesn't have to do anything. I think we should be grateful that they even bothered to redo the whole website to keep us entertained during this period. As for the album title stuff, it's only officially been announced once, by Prospekt. Maybe Chris talking to Rolling Stone about the title was a bad idea but the media can say what they want, Coldplay have been pretty smooth about it and I'm sure any change to the title was down to them not based on what anyone outside of the Coldplay camp thought. These 'deadlines' are self-imposed. He doesn't have to meet them. Maybe it's taking longer than they'd expected to finalise the tracklisting. julissofine
Of course! Prospekt gave my life some excitement! Same here. :D A little information although they're vague are always better than no information at all imo. Chris: Okay, fine...but we're still gonna add... Guy: No Ricky Martin covers either! Chris: Damn! You guys are no fun, I suppose it isn't worth mentioning the madonna cover I recorded last night... *Sarah*
well, i don't really know... i think the idea was quite good but to be honest, i expected far more information than we actually got :\ for my taste, it became too mysterious from time to time and therefore sometimes a ittle bit annoying (no offence, of course)... but maybe i'm just too simple or something ;D so, all in all i think it was a good idea, but yet i'm a bit disappointed ;)
