Album Artwork Discussion Thread

The tits on lady liberty kind of ruin it. I just can't imagine walking around wearing a shirt with that on it, people will think it's really weird.

For now, I'm going to give it a 3/5, but I know it will grow on me once I hear the album.

it's art... why can't just people see it on that way???

it's not like a playboy magazine cover or something like that

it's art... from lots of years ago!

Are you kidding? It says you're 15 in your profile... if I had worn a shirt with this on it at 15, I'd have instantly been the most popular kid in school for rebelling against the establishment. It would be interesting to see how your school reacts, anyway. People are impressed with gutsy actions even if they don't agree with them.

i think the paint splattered across the painting is pretty tight

Yea I just think it's a tad bit out of the ordinary that's all. Showed the cover to someone today in Study Hall and that was the first thing he noticed, even though we already studied that painting a lot earlier in the year in World History.

I agree.

Wow, that's pretty terrible.

I don't know what else to say really. They've teased us all this time with perfectly fine arty images of their own, why not use that? Like in Lore's artwork for instance, now that's fancy. Why didn't they go with Frida Kahlo's painting then? This just makes no sense at all. Ok so they're preparing us for a change in direction and the obvious Beatles reference but then what? You say you want a revolution, well, you know... . I really hope this is just a tentative cover because it's probably the worst they could come up with. Applying "VIVA LA VIDA" on top of a painting?! Besides it has been done once already. Less isn't always more my friends...

I still hope the music will be top class to make up for it though!:D

and this is another idea i was thinking about thats probably completely crazy and untrue but... maybe on the back it says or death and all his friends and theres another painting that connects more to that theme? idk just an idea.

imo they should put somewhere "death and all his friends" because this title(subtitle) has more in common with this bloody revolution :) (and "viva la vida" will never fit to this painting but if someone believes to this fairytales about french revolution, about fighting for freedom etc. - fell free - but this would be naive and caused by lack of knowledge about this revolution and so about this painting)

I think it's very brave and very non-Coldplay. I like it. :) Voted 4/5.

But I don't like that they have covered hear nipples ('cause she does have nipples in the original painting I hope?).

I can't wait to hear Violet Hill. I'm so fucking excited!

What does that red little writing that's to the right, above Jonny say? Is it just the signature of the painter?

To be honest, I prefer the homemade one that Lore made.

I really love it.

By far their best album art. It's the first album cover I've seen in a while that actually makes me feel something before I listen to the music. All the others are pretty regimented and organised (one central image on a plain background, pretty normal font) but this is really different. There's a lot of 'movement' (for want of a less pretentious word) in it. Obviously revolution is, usually, a time of change, optimism and possibility. The "VIVA LA VIDA" bit is ace too. It's not neat but it has been painted passionately (does this make sense?), like it looks like the person who painted was overcome with emotion. Also, "live the life" is a really optimistic quote as well.

I really love it.

I really love it.

You make a good point about the passion of this album cover. It almost reminds me of the Sin City art style:

I'm sure they will take some heat in England for the French flag...

It's just not that good. The whole Viva La Vida theme is a little too fruity for me anyways. I'm sure the music will be good, but I'd much prefer a more darker aproach, ala Death and All His Friends.

Every album out nowadays is just so dark and brooding, so I'm actually sort of glad for the departure. It might as well be Coldplay that does it.

Tokyo Police Club and Elephant Shell are both amazing by the way, going to see them on Friday at the Opera House in T.O.

I didn’t like it too much, I prefer any of the 3 old covers… I don’t like the idea of taking something that already exists and just add it something else, it’s not very original to me… but I think the important thing is the music and that’s what we are gonna hear tomorrow with Violet Hill.

Besides of the other 3 artworks the one I like less is “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” and that 's my favorite CD, so the fact that I didn’t like this one could be a good sign.

It's funny how I was watching the Glastonbury concert from 2005 for the first time today and I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the new cover and a lady in the audience during Yellow :laugh3:. Coincidence?:shocked2::D

It probably is but it's still peculiar to say the least.

Warning, contains slight nudity!

See for yourselves.

hope you like it!

well after seeing the artwork i though it was a 4 out of 5, i liked it but not that much. Rather i liked the idea on there new site so i kind of invented my own coldplay "viva la vida" cover, feed back would be great!
