Is THIS the album they will be remembered for?

Featured Replies

So....we've heard them say that Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends is going to be the album that everybody remembers Coldplay by.

this is of course quite a bit statement to make, and seeing as it was Brian Eno, Followed by Prospekt who said this,

there is alot of pressure on the lads to deliver.

Now we've heard Half of the album;

LIFE IN TECHNICOLOUR

VIVA LA VIDA

LOVERS IN JAPAN

VIOLET HILL

LOST?

After hearing half of the album, do you think that this will be the album that they will be remembered by?

with epic songs to come such as the eagerly anticipated "42" and the evenly sought after "Cemeteries of London"

surely this will be the one truely perfect record in coldplay's back catelogue for some time to come; which begs the question, can they go one step further with their next offering?

Well technically, there are 13 songs on the album.

I made a thread about this I think... here!

http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45299

Which means there are 8 more we have yet to hear even one second of.

But I think so far, this record is sounding better than X&Y, for sure. It may equal or even surpass the first 2. But I can't say for sure until I've heard the whole thing.

I don't think so...

I think we will have to wait for LP5 to see Coldplay at it's best... Besides, I think that you have to hear the whole album to really tell if the album is incredible or not!!!

However, I think this album is going to be great, surely the album of the year!!!

cheers!!!

i actually really think so

its lookign great so far

I think it's better than X&Y so far.

but I loved AROBTTH, I'm not sure if it can beat that album.

and parachutes is overrated.

it's brilliant, but I preferred the other 2 albums.

I'll tell you when we can hear !

and Haha :laugh3: at the 'have you seen my baseball" option !!

Im liking everything theyve done so if they continue that on 8 of the other tracks its going to make Parachues and AROBTTH seem really bland.

it's looking good so far, and who knows, it might blow AROBTTH out of the water, but i'm doubtful that anything will really make AROBTTH fall out of my personal #1 space, no matter how good this is. who knows, though...june 12 will tell!

it might be, yeah, but i don't know, i still think AROBTTH and "clocks" will be their most recognizable stuff. maybe. that's what rocketed them to huge fame, especially in the US, and that is usually the sort of thing that bands are remembered for.

It will be the most memorable album to date, but I think 20 years from now, people will ore likely listen to Parachutes than any other album...just an opinion though, and it doesn't reflect how I feel about the album. It'll be a classic!

If the rest of the songs are as good as the ones we've heard already then definately.

I'll give you my answer in about a year ;)

well a lot of the people who've heard it are saying that VH isn't the best by a long shot - it's the more pop song of the album - though I think there's a possibility Viva La Vida will be the best, or possibly Cemeteries of London or 42.

That said, we already know this is gonna be a popular album and possibly one of the best of 2008, though I'm personally reserving judgment until I've heard the whole thing - they could still be bluffing to try and get some copies sold (a la X&Y), but as I've already said I've got a good feeling about this one

I think Colplay is not a band of great albums but of great songs. But I'm sure that's gonna change with Viva la vida. Maybe it won't contains their best songs but it's going to be their best album.

What follows is extremely cheesy:

I've only been into music properly since 2005. This is the first album that I have really looked forward to by a a band that I really love. I can't wait to listen to it all the way through the very first time and for it to be the soundtrack to where I am in my life at the moment.

When I heard Viva La Vida for the first time I literally had tears in my eyes - no song has EVER had that impact on me on first listen. Something about the reviews, the parts of the album I've heard so far and the themes that this album covers tells me that this may well be the first album to really "change my life".

That doesn't answer the question, not at all. I guess that can only really be answered in a few years time. And even then, it's all a matter of opinion.

same thing here, really, in all except that I changed 2005 for 2007

i think that it's obviously difficult to say. i mean first i'll have to listen to it and then see months/year(s) later to see if it has a lasting effect. I mean honestly i loved x&y when it came out and i think that it has some really good songs (X&Y, Talk, Square One), but i'm not as into it now. I think that A Rush of Blood to the Head is their best, and will be considered one of, if not their best album.

From what i've heard so far i think it definetly has the possiblity to be considered their best album, but ultimately it'll be it's lasting effect rather than the release hype that will be tacked when it comes out

depending on the type of person you are, i think there's always going to be that initial "I LOVE IT" or "this sucks...". i mean, certainly if a band completely screws it up most people will say it sucks, but thats definitely not the case right now. ive never been more excited for an album, and i was pumped for x and y. that being said when I first heard x any y i thought it was great. although it still didn't have the great first impression of arobtth. now a few years on there are only a few songs on x and y i think of that have great redeamable value. there's quite a few songs where i think, what were they thinking. arobtth is just really pure gold. there's songs for the masses to love that we can like to, there's song that no one will ever know about but the biggest fans and there are songs that hit different people in different (yet good) places. parachutes was a great opening act, and i think in time, that's what it will be considered. right now viva la vida is just blowing my mind though. my musical know how has improved quite a lot, as has my library, so when i compare it to the breadth of selection i have now i can't help but be impressed. the songs so far have all been masterpieces of their own making. i was extremely impressed by violet hill, and i now think it might be the weakest we've heard. coldplay stepped up their game in my opinion, and i really think viva la vida will be the defining album among their fans, if not the masses, who will likely cling, like someone mentioned, to the songs that made them popular.

This will be there best all around album to date. I think AROBTTH will be there memorable one though, for one reason only...The Scientist.

This album is gonna be their best no doubt. All though you'll see a huge storm rise come October when U2s LP15 drops. Now im gonna bring in comparison, I think we are gonna have to wait for LP 5 to see how good they actually are. Just like with U2 Unforgettable Fire, was amazing but Joshua Tree has gone down in history.

U2s new album is my most anticipated.

I think it's great that U2 can be doing what they're doing at the level they're doing it after this many years.

I hope Coldplay have the creative fluids to do that

so in 20 years, we can all come back here (we'll still have no life :P) and say "OMG OMG OMG, LP 20 is TOTALLY gonna be their best yet!"
