Update: Which Viva La Vida song is the best?

Featured Replies

I haven't properly listened to the Grey's Anatomy song (wich, according to Debs Wild ISN'T Lovers in Japan), so I guess my vote goes to Viva la Vida.

Lost? and A Spell a Rebel Yell are really nice, but they aren't as good as the album tracks.

I really liked Life in Technicolor too, though. I'll have to wait until I hear the album version of that song. For now, my vote goes to Viva.

OOOOOoooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh so it isn't Lovers In Japan? Man, I'm behind the times. Maybe Reign Of Love? Or a b-side? Who knows? Hell, for all we know it could actually be 42!

But I don't want to commit to any polls yet until the entire album is out - legal or otherwise!

My rank:

Lovers in Japan/DAAHF (nice guitarpart at the end just as Amsterdam)

Life In technicolor (great intro with that Indian instrument)

Lost (nice drumparts:drummer:, but the acoustic version rocks too:p)

Violet Hill (Awesome Jonny-solo:dance:)

Viva La Vida (Not one of my favorites, but catchy song though)

A Spell A Rebel Yell (There are better b-sides)

1.) Violet Hill

2.) Lovers in Japan

3.) Viva La Vida

4.) Life In Technicolor

5.) Lost?

6.)A Spell a Rebel Yell

I've only heard Violet Hill and Viva La Vida so far and much as I like VH, I simply love VLV.

It's going to be a highpoint of the live shows, I'm sure, and if nothing else on the album is as good, I won't care... it's one of my all-time favourite Coldplay songs already!

Now it seems it ís Lovers in Japan. Still not 100% certain - we'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.

ASARY (and I'm probably alone) is up there for me... I just hope a 320 digital recording will find its way... to somewhere

I've gone for VLV (like everyone else) but it's the song that made me most excited about the new album.

That being said, I get the feeling the full band version of Lost! will be a strong contender when it finally falls on my ears (minus the play.com talking :P)

so far... Viva la vida

but I'm really looking forward to Lovers In Japan because I really liked it but I want to hear a good quality audio

A Spell A Rebel Yell

i would say :

the percussion loop on "lost!"

as prewied on play.com, (along with the orgue and Jonny's guitar at the end)...my favorite part so far

mindbowing, i've never heard this kind of stuff from the band, in terms of rythm (and this is "just" a ballad or some mid-tempo thing)

i like the lyrics on VLV, these put the song to another level

^ I've got a really high quality of A Spell A Rebel Yell. I took it off of this video on Youtube and it sounds great.

so lemme guess, you're one of the three people that voted for ASARY? lol....

Viva La Vida

Life In Technicolor

Lovers In Japan

Violet Hill / Lost? (draw)

A Spell A Rebel Yell

A few notes about my order... I think I like the acoustic version of Lost and Violet Hill equally, but by the way Lost! sounds in that video interview, I think it will be above VH, and maybe even LIJ in the final list. It sounds awesome.

Also, the top 2 are very close for me, but VLV edges ahead by a fraction, because it was the song that had the most emotional impact for me. And I still love it now, too. It hasn't lost it's spark yet.

Agreed. As a matter of fact, it's probably the only song that gives me hope. I find the other ones rather flat. If art is all about emotion, ASARY, VH, LIJ are invisible to me, utterly insignificant. They lack good melodies. Lost is a bit better, but it's a typical league 2 Coldplay song, it sounds like a b-side from the AROBTTH era. VLV has a good melody and probably features the best lyrics ever written by Chris Martin. It's gentle and powerful at the same time, very traditional in its structure but also quite original for a Coldplay track. Its only flaw might be the production, it's a bit heavy in my opinion but overall it's the best new song so far.

Honestly, I'm lost, I have absolutely no idea which of the new songs is my favourite. I think LIJ has balanced my opinion of the lot of them. I think that is just such a good thing I can't even describe it.
