I know it's German, but I use it since there's no English word that quite translates.

It's used in the US occasionally. But no-one seems to know it when I say it :disappointed:

Some people do though

Well that is quite interesting! I have the same problems with certain Englisch words that I want to use in German but that don't really translate well :dozey:

My dictionary says Schadenfreude translates to malicious joy:inquisitive:

Basically I understood it to mean joy at the expense of another's misfortune. So yes, pretty much.

That's the exact meaning of it! :D

In Germany there's a saying that goes like this:

"Schadenfreude ist die schönste Freude"

and it means

"Schadenfreude is the biggest joy"

so mean!

I love German's sayings! My favourite is:

"Morgen, morgen nur nicht heute, sagen alle faulen Leute!" - that's about laziness.

You do? That's so cool! :cheesy:

And this here is for the hard working people hehe:

"Was du heute kannst besorgen, das verschiebe nicht auf morgen." - What can be done today shouldn't wait till tomorrow.

^ ...which completely applies to me. :blank:
