Rage Against The Machine

There was no thread about them yet, so there we go. I saw them live on Sunday @ Pinkpop Festival. They're on a sort of reunion tour.

They were ABSOLUTELY AWESOME live, and it takes some show to make me use capitals like that =P

What do you think of them?

I still like RATM, but only select songs, too bad they broke up, Tom Morello was a great electric guitarist, now he turned solely acoustic, and he doesn't sound too good on an acoustic if you ask me, I mean, I like acoustic, but he's just not good at it.

I remember first being exposed to Rage back when my brother was in junior H.S. and he's 26 now. It was around the time he was set to go on the school's trip to Washington D.C in the Spring of '96. It's somewhat ironic, because by mainstream standards, Rage is very politically outspoken music.

I remember that classic album cover from "Evil Empire", and often hearing the song "Bulls on Parade" at the time on a local alternative rock station here in Detroit. Of course, being a kid back then, I didn't really quite understand the motivations and meanings behind their songs. I would change the lyrics, playfully in "Bulls on Parade", from "with a pocket full of shells" to "with a pocket full of seashells".

In fact, the lead singer, Zack de la Rocha, saw the success of their music and the action it sparked as being positively correlated. If the music didn't spark any action, it was a failure in his eyes. I remember when they disbanded and my brother told me de la Rocha basically said they weren't going anywhere--I think what he really meant is that it wasn't sparking significant action.

I do sort of agree about their music sounding the same, but I think it's more of a matter of preference. I personally think Coldplay has pairs of songs within albums that sound a bit the same, within albums, namely their last two. I love the energy that de la Rocha puts into his music and I feel the passion, and also the rage.

Here are a few songs I'm fond of:

Testify-

"Sleep Now in the Fire"- http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jz8wU9DdbqU

Great video, directed by Michael Moore, who makes a few brief cameo appearances.

"Renegades of Funk"-

my fave is this one :nice:

I love Rage. Tom Morello is a bad ass guitar player, that is for sure.

Bulls On Parade has the best guitar solo ever

Morello's 'Arm The Homeless' guitar is so sweet
