I don't think somebody who's trying to be paroled would say "I deserve exactly what I've gotten right now." :P

As murderers and assassins go, I don't think Mark David Chapman has that high of a name recognition. See how the headline refers to him not by name but as "John Lennon's killer." Whereas I can list Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Timothy McVeigh, and we all know instantly who they are and what they did without mentioning JFK, Lincoln, etc.
