but then again you watch them against Villa and suddenly anythings possible.

However, I'm pretty sure it was no coincidence that Drogba wasn't playing. He makes a massive difference.

Yes of course, but I don't think a dead cert league winner's team should be that reliant on one player, but like we've been saying, the standard doesn't seem quite as high this year.

im not too worried at this stage. if things dont improve by february then i will be worried. in regards to rooney leaving old trafford, that is a massive concern for the club and its fans.
based on current form and temperament, along with the emergence of Hernandez the loss of Rooney would be a blessing!

Unfortunately not, but I think the signs were already there last season in the way Liverpool and Arsenal fell away.

The way he's playing at the moment, I think you're right. As talented as he is, at the moment he's more of a liability.

It's a shame he hasn't been blessed with the same professional attitude that Giggs has displayed throughout his career.

You'll Never Walk Alone.

Wolverhampton and West Ham will walk with you.

Yeah. Nice one.

The way I see it with Liverpool - if things don't improve then I can see Roy gone by Christmas and replaced by Kenny Dalglish as caretaker for the remaining part of the season. Which is a real shame considering the shocking squad of players he's been subjected at the club. Kyrigiakos, N'Gog, Poulsen, Lucas, Skrtle, Johnson, Konchesky? It's sub standard at best and it's truly embarassing. Carragher is not quite the player he once was, Gerrard as good as he still is just cannot involve himself in games and Fernando Torres - well what the hell is happening with him?

Now you might say - well Roy Hodgson had a fairly average squad of players at Fulham but the difference was that those guys played for the manager and trusted him. The current bunch of clowns at Liverpool couldn't do a thing right even if God himself took over the club. It's a real bummer.

Yeah. Nice one.

I totally agree. I know Liverpool haters will be revelling in their current predicament, but I think it's a great shame what has happened to one of the biggest names in English (and world) football.

I don't think any Liverpool fan could now blame Gerrard if he finally went elsewhere after what he's had to put up with of late.;)

I can't and won't. He's given the club enough of his time so certainly with me he shouldn't feel pressurised into staying at the club. At times I just feel Gerrard is thinking to himself 'Am I really playing with this bunch?'

Yeah. Nice one.

Sorry Mate, I dont hate liverpool it was just something I found on FB, and found it half funny

I agree. Most of them don't seem fit to clean his boots. They're a group of misfits.:dozey:

Carragher shouldn't be blamed either, as he has also been extremely loyal and given great service over the years. Shame there aren't more around like him (and the likes of Giggs at United).

And after what City went through, I'm sure you can empathise, anyway.;)

If we beat Arsenal on Sunday, It could put a real spanner in the works as they will be at least 6 points behind 2nd place and even further away from Chelsea.

More importantly for city, that leaves them for their next game against Wolves pushing Chelsea to get 6 points from their next 2 games.

We then play west brom away then UTD at home, who knows where we could be if we get 12 points out of those games..

Wherever you'll be in 3 games time, you're all going to hell anyway.

Rooney leaving Man Utd would be greeted with welcome by the owners, cos it will be another 80 million into their bank & the loss of his wages. Might not be greeted with welcome by the fans & Fergie when he gets given 10p to get a replacement

That's the point. Since Conaldo departed, United have got gradually weaker to the point where the cracks are becoming visible.

Apart from Rooney, Rio and Vidic at their best, and taking into account that Giggs and Scholes are nearing the end of their careers, how many of United's players would you call genuinely "world class"?

Players like Wes Anderson and Nani looked like they had that potential (To name but a few), actually United a few seasons ago seemed to have this huge squad of world class first team players and an abundance of fresh new talent ready to be the next generation, now they seem to have neither.

It´s time for the old giants to lie out to allow the next generation to come though, sadly that includes man ¨spend a lot¨city.

I don't really know what you mean by that, but if you mean United, they need to squeeze every last ounce out of Giggs and Scholes that they can, because there's not that kindof quality coming through for next season.

Yes, the rot appears to have set in alarmingly quickly.

Nani, Anderson and Berbatov are all very good players, but I wouldn't put them in the same mould as Ronaldo, Cantona, Van Nistelrooy, Giggs or Scholes at their best.

United's squad is now littered with players who are now past their best, such as Giggs, Scholes, Neville and Owen, together with Hargreaves, who has been out of action for so long people have probably forgotten he's even there.:dozey:

I see Man City as at the stage Chelsea were in 2003-2004. Very good but not quite good enough to push forward for the title yet. Of course Chelsea in 2004 finished 2nd and had a good year overall and obviously went on and won the title the next two years under Mourinho. I like Mancini as a person and a manager - so certainly I think you should keep him in for the long run. However I hope Arsenal beat you on Sunday. Despite his whinging Arsene Wenger is a true statesman of football. I just think he's a genius. His refusal to become embroiled in the money spinning world of football will, in my belief, ultimately prove to be an incredible policy once UEFA financial doping rules come into play. His economic handling is second to none and I wish he was Chancellor of the Exchequer! He has a masters degree in economics so.....anytime your ready Arsene!

I'll agree with the praise for Arsene, though at times as a person you must admit he hasn't always been gracious in defeat (A bit petty at times).

As far as balancing the books goes, you can't argue with his patience, and any Arsenal fan certainly doesn't, despite the fact it is an ambitious club with a relatively low amount of silverware in the past decade.

It really would be great if his patience through all the ownership and spending madness of rival teams around him was rewarded.

It is a bit of cliche but it genuinly would be a victory for football.

I agree. He definitely deserves a lot of respect for what he's achieved and how he's gone about it.

Like Brian Clough a long time ago, he has been fantastic at recognising the potential of players and getting the best out of them.

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll has been bailed to live with club captain Kevin Nolan after appearing in court charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Wearing jeans and a dark hooded top, the Newcastle United striker was driven away from Tynedale Magistrates' Court in Hexham, Northumberland, in a people carrier with blacked-out windows.

He was charged with assaulting Laurie Henderson, an ex-girlfriend, at her home in Ponteland, Northumberland, sometime after 4.30am on Sunday.

Following an hour-long hearing he was granted conditional bail to live with Nolan at his family home, also in Ponteland, a 15-minute walk from the complainant's address.

Magistrates agreed Carroll does not have to stay overnight at Mr Nolan's home when Newcastle are playing. The player was told he must not contact any prosecution witnesses.

Carroll, who gave his address as the Jesmond Dene Hotel, Newcastle, will deny the offence and claims self-defence, the court heard. The case was adjourned until January 10.

Carroll, 21, wears the club's famous number nine shirt and won plaudits for his early season form.

The striker had been touted for a place in Fabio Capello's England squad after starting this Premier League season in style with newly promoted Newcastle, particularly in hitting a hat-trick in his side's 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa in August.

But Carroll has failed to hit the same heights since and found himself benched for the Magpies' recent clash away at Manchester City, leading Capello to look over him for last week's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro.

A product of Newcastle's youth academy, Carroll put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the club earlier this month.

The Gateshead-born forward returned to manager Chris Hughton's starting line-up for last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wigan at St James' Park.
