people are blaming it on the damn coach too:rolleyes:

I think that's rather unfair at this early stage. The rot had already set in ages ago.

The owners are the real culprits.:dozey:

I agree it is really unfair and its partly the players and partly the owners fault.

Well there are far too many sub-standard players in the squad now, which has a lot to do with the fact the money hasn't been made available to buy decent ones.;)

don't know where else to post this...:P

FIFA World Cup: England To Pull Out Of 2022 Bid When USA Pull Out Of 2018 Bid

Following recent revelations that the USA will likely pull out of the competition to secure the 2018 World Cup, the International President of the English bid has admitted that the USA doing so would result in England pulling out of the running to host the tournament four years later in 2022. Were USA to withdraw from the running to host the 2018 tournament, then all bidding nations for remaining for 2018 would be European. Based on FIFA’s rotation policy this would make any European bids ineligible for 2022, as one would be guaranteed to host 2018.

David Dein, who is the International President of the English bid, has said that he expects USA to withdraw from the running to host the 2018 tournament and then added “consequently we will almost certainly withdraw from 2022″. Dein went on to mention the FIFA expections, adding “we have been in six countries in the last 13 days and we desperately want to win the right to stage the World Cup. We are passionate about it and believe it will be a sporting success, a social success and a financial success and that is the message we want to get to everybody and the executive committee members. Of course Michel Platini has a vote, I don’t know how he is going to vote, all I know is that he wants the finals to be in Europe.”.

The amount of bids received to host both tournaments mean that they will be they most contested bids in FIFA’s history. The winners of the right to host both tournaments will be announced on 2nd December 2010. The tournament has received bids from right around the world, with the USA, Belgium & Netherlands, Portugal & Spain, Russia and England all bidding for 2018. The countries bidding for 2022 include Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea, as well as the nations bidding for 2018. Were USA to focus on the bid for 2022, it would leave the 2018 bids up to European nations which would therefore mean that they would withdraw from their 2022 bids.

England and Russia are thought to be the two favourites to win the bid to host the 2018 tournament, while the 2022 bidding race is expected to be much closer, with USA just about the favourite. Following his successful predictions at the 2010 World Cup however, Paul the Octopus has predicted that England will win the race to host the 2018 World Cup.

The World Cup in 2014 will be hosted in Brazil, which announcement was made all the way back in 2003. While there are worries about the high crime rates in some areas of the country, the competition officials have played down the problem stating that the tournament will be all about the football. With a tradition of fantastic carnivals and party’s, it can be expected that Brazil’s 2014 World Cup will be a giant festival of football. FIFA will hope to pick the country’s that can provide the same levels of excitement to host the 2018 and 2022 editions of the prestigious competition.

They will never do this, days of putting way above the prices for players are long done.

Espically now when we control the transfeer market

We dont need to any more.. we just pay a little more.. by city standards..

I would like to say we dont need that many more players now..

Our team is almost complete..

As I said, I don't blame City for how the game has been ruined by greed. They've merely followed the lead set by others.;)

De Jong has been suspended by Holland for his tackle on Arfa which broke Arfa's leg. an odd decision imo.

If the tackle was considered to be malicious or wantonly reckless, I reckon they've made the right decision.

Other countries should follow their lead in such circumstances.;)

why doesnt the FA take any action? is it cos it was only a yellow? so there are no further consequences? i hope thats not the rule cos thats just plain stupid.

I agree. Video evidence should prevail in all such circumstances.;)

Indeed.

The Dutch banning is unusual though. I'm not saying I disagree with what they have done but it's a strange one. I respect them for it though.

I'm a Newcastle fan, although primarily I hope the best for Ben Arfa and his career, on top of that is the disappointment that he's been great for us so far. That said, I didn't see much wrong with the challenge, a bit clumsy, De Jong is a bit of a thickheaded tool, but for me it wasn't malicious. Afterall it wasn't a clean break, De Jong made contact with feet/ankles and it was the way Ben Arfa put the weight on his knee that caused the break.

If it was a clean break, studs over the ball, more intention of winning the man then the bill, I could understand, but I don't get this at all.

As for the decision to leave him out of a few matches for Holland, I'd be pissed off if I were him. Now, that's this case, but in general I would respect it if international teams started doing this for horrific challenges.

Though this wasn't bad at all, see for yourself:

There have been a few hefty challenges recently. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the line in another season there may another one of these

well your the last person whom I thought would defend De Jong, everything has been taken out of all proportion here.

I heard he got dropped as he took a knock, and all the dutch manager did was make a comment.

There was nothing in it .

Roy Keanes tackle in the derby was so much worse, and when he admited in his book, I wanted to kill him.

I really hope Afra gets better soon. We are all very sorry... !

not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not.

but how about Alex's free kick last weekend!! just monstrous!! you couldve lined up 3 goalkeepers and still wouldve gone in.

Liverpool to be bought by Boston Red Sox owners

Liverpool are to be sold to the owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

But the takeover by the New England Sports Ventures requires resolution of a legal dispute with the Reds' American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The Premier League hopes to "complete all the necessary processes by Friday 8 October so the sale can proceed".

Hicks and Gillett tried to sack managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre in a last-ditch bid to keep control of the club.

In an attempt to block any sale and regain control of the crisis-hit club, Liverpool's much-criticised owners tried to replace Purslow and Ayre with Hicks's son, Mack Hicks, and Lori Kay McCutcheon, a vice president at Hicks Holdings.

Hicks and Gillett are understood to have argued that the club's English directors were not acting in the best interests of Liverpool and that the NESV bid - as well another undisclosed offer from Asia - "dramatically undervalued the club".

Purslow, Ayre and chairman Martin Broughton are now consulting lawyers over whether they can resist the owners' attempts to replace them and force through a sale.

"I am only disappointed that the owners have tried everything to prevent the deal from happening and that we need to go through legal proceedings in order to complete the sale," said Broughton, who has met with representative from NESV over the past few weeks.
