Spurs can't do customer service for Toffee

29th October 2010

Premier League football is an expensive business nowadays and after you’ve forked out £39.50 for a ticket at the very least you’d expect to be able to watch 90 minutes of football, wouldn’t you? Unfortunately this wasn’t the case for Everton fan Ian Buffey at Spurs last Saturday after he was refused entry to the stadium despite having a valid ticket.

While his friend had no problem scanning his ticket and passing through the automated turnstile Ian’s attempts to follow were thwarted. His barcode wouldn’t scan, access was denied and attempts to resolve the problem with stewards didn’t bring much joy either.

“They wouldn’t allow me to go in and even accused me of having a Senior Citizen ticket!” said Ian. “This obviously wasn’t the case, but it was an indication of the attitude I was facing. I was told to go to the ticket office which upset me as I knew I’d miss most of the first half. I had no alternative though, so off I went.”

Ian was right to be riled as he missed an entertaining first half - Leighton Baines giving Everton a first-half lead with a sublime free-kick before Tim Howard flapped at a cross allowing Rafael van der Vaart to equalise only three minutes later.

“When I got to the ticket office there was a sizable queue of at least 30 people, mainly Spurs fans, with similar complaints. A steward told me there were “barcode problems”. Eventually I was seen by a young lady who very bluntly asked why they didn’t let me in. How should I understand why the turnstile didn’t work?”

Aside from assuming Ian had extraordinary prescient visions of turnstile problems Spurs also seemed to care more about reassuring him it wasn’t their fault than actually solving his problem. A big customer service no-no, surely?

“The ticket office lady was adamant it was Everton’s fault which was no consolation to me as the first half was ticking away! Eventually the ticket appeared in a grudging manner and in a different place to my original. I got in at the end of the first half and saw two very talented teams, but was left very disappointed that I only saw half a game and missed both goals.”

Sometimes you have to acknowledge that mistakes happen in all walks of life. The crucial thing is how you rectify them and in this case the customer service at Spurs could certainly have been better. Spurs explained the turnstile problems away by blaming a duplicate ticket issue at Everton’s end. That’s fair enough but surely they could have shown some initiative – and a little compassion – by contacting Everton on Ian behalf?

As it was Spurs washed their hands of the problem and refused to refund Ian’s match ticket until the FSF intervened. At which point they pulled their finger out, liaised with Everton, and gave Ian the full cost of his ticket back.

“I was very impressed with the way Everton handled the complaint – they rang me on Tuesday, accepted the responsibility and apologised for the mistake. They also gave me a contact number for any other problems and promised a full refund,” explained Ian.

There had better not be any problems with my ticket at White Hart Lane next week:veryangry2:

Carling Cup Quarter Final Draw

Arsenal v Wigan

Birmingham v Aston Villa

West Ham v Manchester United

Ipswich v West Brom

Played starting 29 November.

Man City have half an hour to rescue their 1-2 defecit to the mighty Wolves.

Inter won 1-0 against Genoa away yesterday and Milan lost to Juve today 1-2 so were back second:D

Hasn't Inter won the championship for the past 6 odd years?

Yes, and this year will hopefully be no exception, although I think it's going to be tougher this season.

I don't necessarily dislike Inter but I would like to see a different Serie A winner (sorry Strato).

Juve would be great but that's never going to happen.

:laugh3: Spurs (again).

TOTTENHAM'S RECORD AT THE ‘BIG FOUR’

v Arsenal P17 W0 D7 L10 F 11 A 30 (last won there May 1993)

v Chelsea P17 W0 D5 L12 F 10 A 34 (last won there Feb 1990)

v Liverpool P16 W0 D5 L11 F 11 A 31 (last won there Aug 1993)

v Man Utd P18 W0 D3 L14 F 7 A 33 (last won there Dec 1989)

In Total P67 W0 D20 L47 F 39 A 128

- Spurs have failed to beat Man Utd, home and away, in their last 19 League meetings (21 including cups).

- Since Dec 1989, Spurs have visited Old Trafford 21 times, losing 16 and drawing four.

They also need to learn to "play to the whistle'.

As for City, after that performance (penalty aside), Adebayor should be renamed Adebaypoor.

They look nothing without Tevez.

Congrats to the Gunners for their perseverance. If it hadn't been for Robert Green, they would have had a hatful.

Tottenham are a bunch of gutless morons with a dick of a manager.

So much for their title aspirations.

Boo:P, it's cool not everyone likes them, I want us to win Serie A again because being realistic we arn't going to get much else in the way of trophies this year, I think we will get to the quarters or semis in the Champions League but win it again?, no way.

It's not that I dislike them but the same team winning every year is a bit boring yknow? I grew up following Serie A from 96' for about 4 years (didn't have Sky to watch Premiership games) and it used to be very interesting, now, it's really not. I rarely check out that league now and according to viewing figures nobody else cares either.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl70XnTWQrc]YouTube - Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham Nani Controversial Goal[/ame]

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp bemoans 'farcical' Nani goal

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp blamed referee Mark Clattenburg after Nani's controversial goal late in Manchester United's 2-0 win was allowed to stand.

Nani slotted into an empty net after Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes rolled the ball out to take a free-kick that he thought had been given for handball. "The whole thing was a farce," said Redknapp. "It was handball. Nani put his hand on it and dragged it down. "Mark Clattenburg is a top referee but he has had a nightmare with that."

The incident took place seconds after Nani had failed in a penalty appeal after he tangled with Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. Nani clearly handled the ball as he appealed for the spot-kick but Clattenburg did not blow his whistle.

"It was bizarre," said Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "No-one knew at the time what was wrong. One minute the goalkeeper had the ball in his hands and next it's in his net. "Nani looked back and looked at the referee and the referee said 'play on', so what can he do but put the ball in the net?

"You can look at the referee and look at the linesmen and blame them, but the goalkeeper should know better. He's an experienced goalkeeper. I thought he made a mess of it."

The referee's assistant raised his flag after Nani slotted the ball into the net and Clattenburg headed over to discuss the situation. United skipper Rio Ferdinand also joined them, but it was Tottenham's players who were incensed when Clattenburg allowed the goal to stand. Numerous Spurs players surrounded both the referee and his assistant Simon Beck, and Luka Modric was eventually booked. The goal came after 84 minutes and Clattenburg was again surrounded by unhappy Tottenham players after the final whistle.

"Clattenburg has not done it on purpose but he has made a mess of it," added Redknapp. "It was as much of a farce as when he disallowed Pedro Mendes' goal a few years ago."

Tottenham should have been awarded a goal in a match at Old Trafford in January 2005 after a long-range shot by Mendes clearly crossed the line before it was scooped out of the net by then United keeper Roy Carroll.

"It's gone now," added Redknapp of the Nani goal when asked whether he would make an official protest. "In the end Clattenburg will come up with some excuse as to why he didn't see it - he couldn't see, he let play go on - well if he did that he should have been saying to Gomes 'play on, play on'. "I haven't spoken to the referee, he's not going to change his decision and he's made a mess of it all now anyway. They'll go in and come up with a story that will make it all look right, that's what happens."

The result extended Tottenham's sequences of games against United without victory to 26, with their last win at Old Trafford coming in December 1989. "It was a a crazy end to the match but it was a decent game of football," said United coach Mike Phelan of Saturday's encounter. "I guess it is a case of the old adage of playing to the whistle, what else can we ask of our players/"

Nemanja Vidic had put United in front with a header from a Nani free-kick in the first half but it was a tight contest. Rafael van der Vaart hit the post for Spurs as the visiting team played a full part in the game. "There was very little in the game, it was very evenly balanced," said Redknapp.

Tottenham play Inter Milan in a Champions League tie on Tuesday and could be without the influential Van der Vaart after the Dutchman limped off in the latter stages at Old Trafford.

"It looks like he has done a hamstring," added Redknapp. "He faded a little bit but he hasn't played many full 90-minute games, but he has fantastic ability."

Tottenham are a bunch of gutless morons with a dick of a manager.
They're not that good!

may i ask why so much hatred for tottenham? is it jealously because they have the coveted 4th champs league spot and are actually doing alright in it? or because theyre still able to perform relatively well without spending squillions on new signings? or is there something else there i dont know about?

No that's a fair point,if I was viewing the league from a neutral point of view I would feel much the same as it makes things more interesting, I try to watch some of the Serie A games but usually if I'm honest just watch the ones which Inter are playing and see your point that the whole league has gotten a bit dull.

may i ask why so much hatred for tottenham?

Maybe thier all Arsenal fans?

I think alot of people don't like thier manager, I don't really know much about him to say.
