It's true. They're the most secretive band in the world.

And yet we know who Prospekt, The Oracle and Roadie #42 are... :P

(and I have a suspicion that Anchorman is Vicky, but that's kind of way out... :shy:)

Yet she openly talks about where Guy's brother lives

Does anyone know his name? We could track him down. :sneaky: Kidding! :P

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Why are you kidding? I think it's a good idea :laugh3:

Q. Dear Oracle,

What does gobstopper mean?

I found it in the Arctic Monkey's hit Crying Lightning, and since I didn't know the meaning, I looked for it on the dictionary (the 2008 edition) and it was not there. Please, could you help me?

Loveeeeeeee from Italy =) <3

The Oracle replies:

A gobstopper (aka jawbreaker) is confectionary. Basically it's a very large, round and hard sweet that's commonly difficult to get into your mouth and then around it - hence it's name.

You may have heard of the Everlasting Gobstopper Willy Wonka was working on?

Q. I was wondering...is The Scientist an appropriate wedding song? Walking down the isle or fist dance? Favourite song and it means a lot but do people think this is a strange choice???

The Oracle replies:

Hmmm purely from a lyrical perspective it wouldn't be my first choice of recommended songs to walk down the aisle to. I think with first dances it's more about choosing something that means something to you both so I guess it doesn't matter so much.

And yet we know who Prospekt, The Oracle and Roadie #42 are... :P

Q. Hey Oracle!

Just wondering, which Coldplay song contains the lyrics "Drums, here it comes, don't you wish life could be as simple, as fish swimming round in a barrel when you've got the gun"? Thanks, it's been in my head for like 6 months.

The Oracle replies:

Ahhh even reading those lyrics makes my hairs stand up on end. That'll be Prospekt's March from the E.P of the same name.

Q. Hi Oracle! Today I saw a funny video on YouTube that was called Coldplay Christmas message from 2007. There were videos from 2004, 2005 and 2006 too, but I did not find one from 2008. Is there one ? And will the band make one for this year?

The Oracle replies:

Last year there were 2 Christmas treats rather than a 'message'; it was only available on this site for a limited time. It was Jingle Bells filmed live at their O2 arena show featured Simon Pegg.

As for the tradition this year... let me traditionally make you wait and see...

Q. Good day Oracle.

Since the start of Coldplay discography the singles released have had the same cover style as the album it relates to.

Coldplay now has a new live album which has a green butterfly like thing on the cover. Is this a new cover style or just for the live album?

The Oracle replies:

The butterfly is the same as the ones used in the confetti drop during Lovers In Japan/Viva la Vida at the live shows and so is a one-off for the live album.

Q. What do you think of the artist Imogen Heap?

The Oracle replies:

It's no co-incidence that today is Imogen's birthday - happy birthday to her!

Funny you should ask this question when just a week ago Chris was commenting on how amazing she is. After hearing and buying Jason DeRulo's single, Whatcha Say, which features Imogen Heap's goosebump inducing Hide and Seek as the main refrain, Chris purchased the original also."

hehe Chris likes imogen heap and so do I! :D

:cheesy: i like Whatcha Say, but i didn't realise that her part was from her own song. :o

so, i listened to Hide and Seek. it's quite good. :wacky:

Q. Hi Oracle! I read a text that says "Coldplay will become yellow for the Simpsons toons"... really?? And the voices are the same of the member of Coldplay??

The Oracle replies:

As the new season has kicked off a few of you have asked for verification on this point. Yes the band appear as themselves in the new season of The Simpsons but only Chris speaks. Anchorman is sure to remind us all when it's airing...

That video!!! Chris is wearing a christmas tree-hat HOW COOL IS THAT!? :shocked2::shocked2:

Just because I was a nerd in high school, here is our marching band performance featuring imogen heap's song hide and seek.. I was in colorguard..:shy:

Seriously not many people knowing that the chorus of "Whatcha Say" is from "Hide and Seek" is one of the most annoying musical tragedies. The original far surpasses the Hip hop version in my opinion and I'm glad to see that both the Oracle and it seems Chris enjoy Imogen's music.

Yeah - love the original, hate that rubbish in the charts now... I'm amazed she let them use it!

Q. I love the Exhibition Room, I just wish it had a place for poetry. Do you think the site might do that in the future?

The Oracle replies:

Feel free to record your own poem and upload it to YouTube. You could use a static photo as a backdrop. There have been songs sent and displayed that way and so there's no reason you can't do the same with poetry...

Q. Dear Oracle

Could you please clarify this for me once and for all so that I may rest peacefully. What is the intro music to Coldplay's 2003 tour concerts. Most people claim it's a piece from Eno's Apollo album but I don't think they've ever actually heard that album because there is no part that sounds like that. Thank you!

The Oracle replies:

The band did indeed use Eno's music from the film For All Mankind before they took to the stage. However, Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks was the album released 6 years earlier that largely soundtracked the movie.

The actual piece the boys walked on to is called An Ending (Ascent).

The Oracle lies! I've been searching for the actual song for quite some time. If you listen here [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGOGvJHeyQc]YouTube- Politik (Live @ Ahoy Dutch EP version) Coldplay[/ame] you can plainly hear that their intro song is NOT "An Ending (Ascent)" thought that is a great song as well :D Anyone know what song is at the start in the video I posted?

I'm sorry, xsarehardcorex, I can't help you with this...

Q. Dearest Oracle,

You're probably going to get a lot of questions about the End of Decade Clearout Sale, but I'm hoping you can answer mine. Will people outside of the U.K. be able to bid on these items? I recently attempted to bid on an item posted on the U.K. ebay, but there was no option available (at least not for the U.S.) to purchase because of the dollar/pound exchange issue. Will people outside the U.S. be able to bid on these items? Please say yes...

The Oracle replies:

I expect I will yes but only as you are the first, until it starts on the 17th there's not going to be any further responses from myself. Once the auction starts you will see all the details you need to know including yes, this is going to be open to one and all.

There's gonna be all manner of items ranging in price too so don't worry about the economics.

Q. Oracle!

Are the boys excited for their Grammy Nominations? Thank You Kindly!

The Oracle replies:

Yes this is fantastic news!

Prospekt's March was released during the eligibility period for the 52nd Grammy Awards but of course that wasn't a thought at the time. It's great when the nominations come through and are a totally unexpected surprise!

Q. Hola Mr Oracle.

I'm currently doing an essay on modern piano pieces in pop music etc, and although this isn't vastly important, I read somewhere that Chris was influenced by Muse/Matt's piano playing when writing the album A Rush of Blood to the Head. Is this true or were the band just listening to Muse at the time?

The Oracle replies:

Well he was if we take it as read that Chris referred to Muse having inspired Clocks which was written at the time you mention of course.
