HAPPY MEMBER OF THE MONTH TRACIE! :P

No no, you'll be able to see the main stage as well, although since the X-Stage extends farer away from the stage, that might affect your viewing angle, but you'll be fine.

There's live amateur video on youtube from the American Express concert in Spain

Thanks!:D

OK, assuming Debs has NOTHING else to do with the band, and I seriously doubt that, she has a full life outside the band as well, so yer, I do put it down to just being human. People can have a bad day. She answers a lot of questions with good humour too. Whatever. I'm not discussing this anymore because now I'M getting grumpy, lol. ;)

Q. Coldplay, I want to see you guys in Atlanta, GA with my girlfriend so badly. I have no money, though. What else can I do for her?

The Oracle replies:

When I was 15, my friend & I persuaded her Dad to drive up to a venue so we could stand outside in the cold to listen to a gig. The band went on an hour late because they'd flown in to Manchester from performing on TOTP in London. We stood there for hours but it was better than sitting at home knowing we were missing our favourite band perform.

It might not be practical, but maybe you could make a romantic picnic and take your girlfriend to the venue after for a little listen outside? There's usually fireworks too so you would see those and hopefully hear the show.

Otherwise do something special on that night. You could find out the setlist for a show and make a compilation in song order...

Q. I know you answered earlier that it will be most unlikely that we see the glowbands during the summer shows, but what about at the shows in stadiums/arenas? I'm going to the July 2nd show in Atlanta at the Philips Arena, a domed stadium. Could the glowbands make an appearance?

The Oracle replies:

I have noticed a few people saying that I said that but what I actually said was "I haven't spoken to anyone about wristbands beyond the current European arena dates but... one thing I notice about all outdoor gigs (festivals etc.) is that the headline act comes on around 9pm and as the sky is still light the lighting / effects don't seem to have the full impact until it gets dark. I think the wristbands would be lost in the summer and would be a waste of time in my opinion."

I would assume they will have them as they are very much a part of the MX tour but there's been no official word on any changes that may be planned. I think those kind of decisions will be happening soon though.

Q. Hi Oracle!

I was watching the Viva la Vida doc, and at some of the first images appears Phil talking, and behind him there are some painted letters, and the first thing that came to my mind was: Mylo Xyloto. So, I wonder if they have some relation with the new album, they're pretty similar!

Thank you!

The Oracle replies:

Yes, that documentary was filmed when MX was already well in the pipeline and its artwork had begun to appear around The Bakery.

Q. Continuing with my last question about the Viva la Vida documentary being on DVD, I think Coldplay should make a whole documentary of the group Coldplay itself. Explaining the whole history of the band and how it got started it would be an interesting thing to see.

The Oracle replies:

I'm not sure the band would like the idea of that too much given there are a few shows around that do document their history pretty well already. Your previous question however, was about making the Viva documentary available on DVD - that was a Swedish TV film so it's not going to be a DVD release.

If you are regular readers of the Oracle section, the sarcasm and 'rude' jibes are consistent and not new.

They're never down to bad mood/ grumpiness.

Quite simply they are to liven the place up and have a laugh.

If anyone feels like it's at their expense, they have yet to say.

If any one else thinks so, that's as free a thought also.

Sometimes those comments have a warning of tone and/or content.

Perhaps the easily offended should stop reading at that point.

It's not meant to offend.

Rather than litter Tash's thread - ironically - if anyone has a problem, perhaps the way to express it is in an email directly.

All opinions will be read and taken on board but changes will not necessarily be made - that's not the reason behind this post.

Thanks.

O hai. :surprised:

I don't mind The Oracle joking, but I suggest that you should stop responding to non-Coldplay related questions because that does seem unfair to (I guess) thousands of people who ask questions about Coldplay and don't get answered.

^ I was like OMG it's Debs :o SURREAL

Anyway if you're still here/nearby/ if you ever come to this thread again Debs I just wanted to say: I'm so grateful for what you do, and you're so nice to us crazy fans :nice: Oh, and I've read one of your blogs the other day...AMAZING! :D

edit: OMG!!! 2 642 posts :awesome:

Hmm, well did it occur to anyone that The Oracle was asked to answer non-Coldplay questions?

Always better to get clarification.

Also, if you knew how many questions of a personal nature get sent in, I think there'd be a case to say that many love it and find it more than fair.

As you don't see the Coldplay related questions (not thousands) that get asked, you don't know what they are and why they might not be getting answered.

So, maybe those who don't like the non-band related ones, it might be an idea to come up with really different, interesting, exciting, new and fabulous shiny Coldplay ones. The personal ones are staying but it'd be great to have more band ones.

Just saying.

Get your thinking caps on or I'll have to start sending some in ;-)

Ooh there's a thought.

Wow, first of all, I am honored. :wacky:

Of course, you should do what you see fit.

I was refering to these types of questions: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5170936&postcount=6362

Why should people bug you with that?

But THIS is very, very lovely: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5172380&postcount=6377

I didn't know you were asked to answer questions unrelated to Coldplay, and I imagine that you get multiple copies of the same dumb related ones. :D

Your job isn't easy.

Honestly, I've never asked The Oracle anything, this is the first time I suggested something and I was answered! Wow! :smug2:

Cheers! Have a nice day! ;)

It's nice you took the time to comment at all, thanks. I personally don't see why people should or shouldn't bug me with anything to be honest though. Anything is fine with me.

I have on one occasion received hate mail (about a homosexuality Q) and sometimes horrid slagging ones about other people. When I try to reply to those it's no surprise their emails bounce back so I wonder if people are pulling my leg sometimes.

I find it entertaining to have some seemingly irrelevant or daft questions in the mix too. If you go back to week one, I'm pretty sure there was one about why glue sticks to the inside of a tube.

Anyway, let's see what people come up with.

By the way, I hate to sound like an egomaniac or anything whilst quoting from Notting Hill but "I'm just a girl"... you don't need to feel any honour whatsoever when I reply. Why would I not? I feel privileged (regardless of some comments in this thread) to have this amazing job and I get some brilliant letters from fans so I don't want you to think I am any different to anyone else.

OK, Debs, here's another suggestion.

What if we started a thread here named "What would you ask The Oracle" or something like that for the fans to discuss and see if others were wondering the same and then only one of us sends you the question so that you don't get bothered with numerous copies of the same question?

And then, when we reach a consensus, someone whom we make in charge sends it to you here via private message and you answer it. But you answer every question asked in this manner. Of course if you or the band don't know the answer yet, let us know that too.

That is if you or anyone from The Oracle team visit this site regularly. It would be like a daily exclusive coldplaying question! We'll limit it to one question per day.

The idea is, since this is the biggest fan site in the world, and we are probably better informed about Coldplay than the general public that asks questions on the official site, our questions would probably be more relevant.

What do you think?

I think that I (we) all eagerly await the Charlie Brown video, so do you know when will it be released?

It's not a particularly original question, and you've probably been asked this many times, but still, I think that that's what we want to know more than anything.

I had started writing that before I saw your reply. I'm only trying to make it easier for you in a way... ;)

I'm glad to see that you don't mind being "bugged" by fans.

But still, that "coldplaying exclusive" question would be great! :)

Spookily just noticed that Notting Hill is on TV right now...

Looks like YOU ARE an all-seeing future predicting Matrix type of Oracle like I suggested, after all! :D

I can't lie - I hate the idea! Ha ha.

It wouldn't necessarily work either:

I would avoid such a thread like the plague & as I get sent hundreds of questions I can't go through looking for "the one".

It doesn't matter if you all send the same question IF I haven't answered it before so again, it's down to you to just ask what you want to know. If people really are wondering the same, I'd hope they'd just send it in. (SEND IT IN!)

I think this site is amazing and what a great community to have but I don't really want a Coldplaying question of the week or to see "the general public" as that; they're fans too.

I don't fancy making exceptions to how it works for one group of fans over another or for any to be sent in anywhere else, just via the Oracle form.

It's a case of ask, gets read, considered and answered / saved for later / deleted.

It takes a long time to do this process and there are currently 6976 in the bank!

Please bear in mind sometimes I cannot answer.

For example, your one below - I have been asked lots about the Charlie Brown video and have answered Qs about it but I CAN'T tell you when. I know but that's not how it works. That's what Anchorman is there for.

It would get boring to say "I don't know" to a lot of other questions too so I simply don't answer.

Did I cover everything? I'm not sure so if I didn't... let me know?

x

OK, fair enough. :) Worth the shot though... :D

I'm not sure that you got it right - you wouldn't have to read the thread or search for "the one" question.

You'd just get one message with one question (daily or weekly) and that's it.

This was a rushed idea. I agree it's kind of "elitist". And we would probably ask questions you can't answer like the CB one.

I misinterpreted your job. (Mixed it up with the Anchorman's.)
