Albums of the Year: 2008

Featured Replies

Ive updated my list again to include some newly heard albums. Still waiting for The Killers and a couple others. I bought the Japanese edition of The Music's - Strength In Numbers and its great. THANK YOU Famous Old Painter for ranking it so high in your list. Its why I bought it. Glad I did. Drugs and The Rain are nothing short of brilliant!

As for EP's a separate list might be fun.

The National - The Virginia EP

Smashing Pumpkins - American Gothic EP

These would make my list.

And Oasis' bonus CD from Dig Out Your soul if its considered an EP is awesome! Prospekt's March is almost a given based on Glass Of Water alone... Lord, Im such a Coldplay "fanboy" its sick...LOL

I think EPs shouldn't count, but you can put them as an honorable mention, like other albums which for whatever reason are not allowed to be in the count-down ;)

Sounds fair enough.

The one reason I would say otherwise is that some bands' first releases are EPs that are really more like short proper albums worthy of recognition. A good example would be Sam Roberts' first EP "The Inhuman Condition"- it's the bestselling EP in Canadian history with 3 or 4 major national radio hits on it. It was so big and so good that a lot of people (myself included) were a bit confused or shocked when they released their "Debut Album" 'We Were Born in a Flame' a while later since it was just assumed that the EP was an album. Coldplay's The Blue Room is another example- I've met people who bought it when it first came out and who think of it as their only good album (looong story there)

Special mention goes to:

Puressence - Don't Forget To Remember, which was given a full release in June of this year, after being released in September 2007. It would be my album of the year by far iif it had originally been released this year.

Yes they do- each album gets so many points per list depending on rank. Painful to do, I know, especially if you can't decide between things, but it's the easiest way to make a coherent final ranking.

I'm starting but its still early and no coffe in body yet so:rolleyes::

Verve - Forth

Coldplay - VLVODAAOHF

What else do you like this year Christa1?

My new unoffical number 1 album of the year because it can't be counted:

VA - Take Me To The River: A Southern Soul Story 1961-1977

This was the year I discovered Coldplay and it was because of Viva La Vida... that album caught my attention like no other this year or in the last few years. It has number one status all the way for me... and is at the head of my employee picks at the music store I work at :D
