Albums of the Year: 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has again come to have a good long look at the music world around us and ask "What albums did we like this year?".

The Deal: Make a list of 5 to 25 original albums released in 2008. Rank determines the points an album gets.

The Deadline: Wednesday, December 17th at 4:00pm EST (9:00pm GMT)

A note: EPs, split 2007/2008 releases that made the 2007 list, reissues, and live albums do not count. So no In Rainbows, Prospekts March, or Haarp, but Oracular Spectacular is fine since the digital release was not voted for last year.

So I'm a couple of weeks early. But I thought since there seem to be quite a few new albums coming out in the next month or two, this would be a good time to get people thinking. You can post your lists-in-progress in this thread. I'll update this post with details as they are decided, and get the big campaign kicked off at the start of October. For anyone unfamiliar with our annual list, check out the 2006 discussion thread. Once again, thanks to Nik for starting it all.

Verve - Forth

Coldplay - VLVODAAOHF

So far theres only been 3 albums worth their weight for me this year. (bearing in mind ive only got 4 albums this year)

Those being Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Feeders Silent Cry and The Last Shadow Puppets.

I don't think Forth is in the running, this album is mildly dissapointing.

I need to get ahold of Accelerate pretty soon tho.

I count In Rainbows as 2007.

Don't Stop - Annie

Sexy Norwegian electro-pop. It's released in October but I found a leak online. She probably won't get much media attention or radioplay (great if she does!) but it's an excellent album all the same. Funky and fun, it'll make you wanna dance.

No live or compilation albums. Sorry.

Yeah, because 12165 points, 32 votes 1 first place, and an obliterated 2007 list just isn't enough. :inquisitive::P

Sorry guys, the official release date was October 10th 2007, if memory serves me. It's had its kudos. And plenty of them. :smug:

I would exclude Coldplay's album from the running.

Also what are your rules on very low-key 2007 releases getting re-released in 2008?

for example: MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

^ yeah I was wondering about MGMT as well.

And I agree with excluding Coldplay......since its a Coldplay forum....

But it doesnt' matter to me that much.

I would exclude Coldplay's album from the running.

But Coldplay's album was definatly one of the finest albums we will see this year.

If it was the bands second album or debut it would end up a classic. (as these things do)
