Albums of the Year: 2008

Featured Replies

(This is my final list for the year. Slight revisions, yes, but I wanted to wait until all the albums I was anticipating this year had been released before applying the finishing touches. In other words, I was waiting for 808s & Heartbreak and Day & Age to blow me away. Neither did, although 808s is a fucking good album.)

01. Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns / Bloc Party - Intimacy / The Corrections - Repeat After Me (I just can't seem to separate these three, try as I might)

02. TV On The Radio - Dear Science

03. Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends / Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer

04. ¡Forward, Russia! - Life Processes (might have been outright AOTY if not for the hiatus)

05. We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery

06. Los Campesinos! - We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed

07. Sigur Rós - Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust

08. Glasvegas - Glasvegas

09. Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid

10. Keane - Perfect Symmetry

Space Cadet, please edit your first post to link to this list, please.

Ive not heard of iRussia or We Are Scientists. How would you describe them? Who else might they sound like or be influenced by?

Thanks Jeff

I can understand how you haven't heard of ¡Forward, Russia!, but WE ARE SCIENTISTS!? :o

They're fairly well known in the U.S., I think.

MySpace links for each:

http://www.myspace.com/forwardrussia (unfortunately on hiatus, as I mentioned in my last post :()

http://www.myspace.com/wearescientists

Thank You! Im going to seek them both out. LORDY, Ive bought a lot of albums this year... Im glad the gas prices have been going down. As for We Are Scientists, maybe Ive seen the name on here before but I dont think Ive ever heard them. 3. Accelerate - R.E.M.

4. Intimacy - Bloc Party

Thanks for the lastest batch of lists, guys. Sorry it took so long, but they've now been added/updated. I'll add the alternate thread's lists soon.

As always, get in touch if there's a problem or you've been left off the front page.

MY FINAL LIST

1.The Racontuers - Consolers of the Lonely

2. Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs

3. The Presets - Apocolypso

4. Sigur Ros - Me Su í Eyrum Vi Spilum Endalaust

overall its been an average year in music. no where near as good as 07 or for that matter 06 but on par with the years before that.

TV on the Radio will be rising on my list.

And the Evangelicals album too.

I revised my list, dont think I'll need to update it again. I've done a Martin and put 3 albums at #1, that ok?

Due to school getting in the way of life () I'm officially extending the deadline to Wednesday, December 17th, at 4pm EST (9pm GMT).

Totally get where you're coming from, but Christmas break is the only time I have to compile the lists. It took me about 5 days last year, and school is kicking my ass at the moment.

^ ditto about ass kickage by school.

But I'm done soon!

Uh... you can have 3 symbolic ones, but whichever #1 comes first will get the most points, no matter what number you put in front of it.

^Hooray for done soon.

Now that you've said that, I'm probably going to change it 10 times from now. :laugh3:

And I've skipped #2 and #3 so the other two #1s can count as that.

should In Rainbows count as a 2008 album, or would it be a 2007 album, because i'm undecided if i should leave it off my 2008 list

For this countdown it is being considered a 2007 album.

ok...

what about MGMT's Oracular Spectacular? It had a digital download in 2007, but was released i guess officially in 2008

That one I believe we are allowing for the countdown since most people didn't listen to it until 2008. Which was not the case with In Rainbows. I think Mo said somewhere when the cutt off date is from 2007 albums.
