I thought that! I thought Will was actually playing it! Obv not :(

Me too. I'm disappointed. :(I thought that they tried to make their live shows at least as live as they can.

There's been so much talk about the bell yet it's not even really played live.

*ahem*

as my good friend put it, he says that Will hitting it triggers a machine-induced bell sound.

is that not really the same as playing it? it's not like he's just hitting it to the music, the sound is happening as a result of him hitting the bell.

i mean, it is a bit different, but not enough i think to actually be disappointed. :P

Okay, today I was at the beehive & bakery. I saw someone leave the beehive, go to the bakery, then he came back out and go back into the beehive....he was bald...who could this be?

Was it Matt McGinn? He wrote the roadie book, is bald and is rocker-like.

I'm beginning to think so now!! :)

thanks Mich :D

I recognise Lambert, he's the Roadie whos cap I pinch... er borrowed at Wembley :laugh3:

The bell is no more/less live than the keyboards in Viva or Will's drum sound in Violet Hill.

Hey I recognise you from your avi :D

We talked in the queue in Manchester

I actually don't have a problem with this type of rigging for the show. Apparently the bell doesn't actually reverberate and sounds more like a thud when stricken, if it sounded fine there would be no need to have a trigger system for it. The band also uses a wide variety of keyboards, drums, etc. to record the album, we can't expect them to travel with each and every one of them. This isn't playback, with this system the band could play whatever they want live as if the instruments were actually there.

Yeah but they talk about the bell A LOT and how awesome it is, when the truth is that the sound came from something else? So all these while the bell was just a prop they put on stage?

That's lying and cheating. I'm indeed very disappointed.

In a way the bell thing is obvious. That bell couldn't possibly make THAT much sound, especially in an arena.Oh well, he is still beating life out of it.I guess t does make a sound but we can't really hear it with the screaming and clapping etc

I was about to say this, when you remember their concert, there's no way it could sound like this!

And that's exactly the same thing for electronic drums, the sound doesn't come straight from it, but the drummer is still playing

Though they could use a real bell, that's the bad side of their shows...

Thing is though, there are too many things which were pre recorded and all, and I was thinking whatever.

But then I was hoping small things like the bell was actually original. Even that wasn't.

I would prefer for them to just use the things that were available as long as it's authentic sounding or whatever you call it.

^sure.but I do love the bell.By the Will hits it, it must make some kind of sound.but too many pre-recorded instruments.I love VLV and the tour was amazing but maybe they should return too a more "natural" way of playing.

I think this bell thing is being made into far too big a deal than it should be:rolleyes:

Yeah cause the music is not important as long as the guys are hot right?

Alright I'm going to make a serious comment now.

If you think that electronically induced sounds are not real music then you are sadly mistaken. It's not as if Will was pretending to hit the bell. This wasn't a music video. He was still hitting it. And his hitting it caused a SOUND TO PLAY. Correct me if I'm wrong, but how is that not live playing?

You really need to realize that it would be impossible for nearly every band to make their live shows sound great without some assistance from an electronic system. The only exception would be a band that played soley acoustic music.

You also might want to avoid the use of immature insults when trying to make a point.

+1

I really loved the show etc.

But I would also be happy if the next show/gigs will be more 'stripped down' and less prerecorded stuff aso.

I would even go that far to say, that the bell wasn't really necessary aso.

As long as the audience gets their sing-a-long, everything is okay. And I actually think, that the sing-a-long was intense at some locations and that made the song even more special :)

Edit:

This shouldn't come across as complaining. I just think that many fans would have been totally happy to get a show without all the sound-/visual effects and just the band doing what they do best: playing fantastic music :)

I agree, I really don't care if their live music sounds less perfect, I'd really like them to use less pre-recorded instruments for the next tour!
