Saffire
All hail Obama, our new leader! Celebrate! I only hope to live up to Obama's expectations of me... and may all Americans serve him as he best sees fit!
BostonSportsTD
this is unbelievable. i can't believe it's actually happened. i'm so happy and so proud. THANK YOU GOD!!
Saffire
Regardless of whether or not you agree with obama. this is really a big deal. i don't think i understand, being from the era that i'm from how racist this country was just 35 years ago. its really a big deal. hallelujah. I know, it's amazing. Obama's people were once enslaved in America, and now he will be the new slave master, moving money around at the point of a gun, with the adoration of millions. the_gloaming09
Although that I was a supporter of McCain, I am glad that he has won it and I feel really proud of our country that we have gotten this far. I think that regardless of what party we are affiliated or lean towards that we should all celebrate and be proud.

Kackie
I'm just sorry race has been such an issue in the last few decades after all of the hard work, sweat and toil of people thirty/forty/fifty years ago, that people would have to make a big deal now because of our president's skin color. I never considered either candidate by their skin color, and certainly wouldn't have been celebrating another candidate winning because he or she had a certain color skin. I met a lot of people who said they were voting for Obama because he was black. I don't think your skin color should be the deciding factor, I certainly hope mine isn't! So many people worked very hard for our country to be equal... and it just seems to be going against that to still be making such a hard point about that now. :(

He's just as much white as he is black... a lot of reporters don't seem to get that, though. There's an article about it somewhere, I'll try to find it and link to it. Kackie
That's a very good point, StrawberryFields. A lot of reporters also made it sound like he got votes from black people because he's black... as if people can't vote on issues they believe in and not only skin color. That would be like voting for a candidate because he's handsome rather than smart. that works for a beauty contest but not for the president of the United States. Kackie
I'm heading to bed now... Just as concerned for our country as yesterday. It's going to take a lot more than a president to fix the mess we're in... :( Good night everyone.

Yeah, the sad thing is... if you think about it, the Kennedy vs. Reagan election was almost entirely based on looks. Kennedy won that one because of his fantastic looks on TV... even my history textbook said everyone thought he was a lot sexier than Reagan, and therefore a better presidential candidate. :P :\

Tnspieler1012
after CNN proclaimed him the next president, the commentators couldn't seem come off the subject of how inspiring he'll be to minorities as a black (or half-black) president. Maybe I'm naive, but I never found it all that relevant, although I found it interesting how 98% of african-americans voted for Obama in some states. Well I think the most important lesson we'll learn as a nation is that the color of a politician's skin doesn't matter - they're all the same. Ruthless, pandering leeches on society. Tnspieler1012
I've always been of the opinion that if you keep going past the extreme left or extreme-right wing you often end up at eerily similar places...
