Anyway, as a gay person the biggest slap in the face is the fact California voters decided to recognize animal rights (by voting for a proposition to give chickens bigger cages) and denied basic human rights to their neighbors. Remarkable, what mob-rule does. And in the end, that's all democracy really is.

I know. It's ridiculous. I... I can't even go into the technicalities of it right now; I'm still too upset. It's absolutely shocking, I thought for sure that it wasn't going to pass. Although I'm proud that my county had almost %100 no voters.

S President-elect Barack Obama will go ahead with plans to build part of a controversial missile defence system on Polish soil, Poland has announced.

 

President Lech Kaczynski's office said the pledge was made during a telephone conversation between the two men.

 

Russia opposes the US plans, and early this week said it planned to deploy missiles on Poland's border and electronically jam the US system.

 

This is the first signal that Mr Obama plans to continue George Bush's policy.

 

During the US election campaign, Mr Obama said he wanted to review the system to build a missile defence system in central Europe to ensure it would be effective and would not target Russia.

 

Moscow says the plan to locate 10 interceptor missiles in northern Poland and a tracking radar in the Czech Republic will do exactly that.

 

In his first state of the nation address earlier this week, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said Moscow would neutralise the system by deploying short-range missiles in its western enclave of Kaliningrad on Poland's border.

 

The US military insists the shield is incapable of destroying Russian rockets and is designed solely to knock down long-range missiles fired from the Middle East.

 

This is also the first signal from the US president-elect that he has no intention of backing down in the face of the Russian threats.

I am 16 yeard old and I think (not to be full of myself) am fairly mature and politically inclined for my age. I think that this was the best choice my country could have made. I mean I have grown up with President Bush as my president and I have witnessed everything that my country has been through and am not pleased with it. I wanted to cry out of happiness when I found out that Obama won because I feel like everything is going to be okay now. He is one of the greatest political leaders in a LONG time and I am excited to see what is going to happen within the next for years.

For anyone who doesnt like him or didnt vote for him, just wait and see, give the man a chance, hopefully everything will work out for us. :smiley:

I didnt know that it was legal in Conn. too but yes in Mass also! Cali didnt pass it last week and I was soo depressed, like seriously what is wrong with ppl! I think though that it was from all the false advertisement trying to get it passed. The ads for that said that it was going to be taught on school even though it wasnt...and I think that it scared a lot of ppl into voting yes.

I'm hearing that Palin was a super bitch. She apparently threw things at her staff or something like that.

Wow Jay and Nick, why not let the man take office and gee, I don't know, maybe have a few months to get used to the role and maybe pass some legislation and get the ball rolling. You cannot judge a man who is not president yet. I for one am overjoyed by an Obama win and am optimistic about what he can do for our country.

I can judge a man based on his history in other politics and his words and actions. He wants to do failed polices how will a change in apparency but the same policies do anything?

 

He couldn't do anything in the past in local or state government, yet we expect him in federal government pushing failed policies to work? thats funny.

 

If we were to put a donkey into the office I'm sure you wouldn't be waiting to see in a few months how he does, its no different with Obama's failed policies and corruption, its just common sense.

I think he really wants to do the right things, but will he have the strength to take the reins, or will the reins be yanked aside? He isn't completely beholden to them - much of his campaign cash came from numerous small and medium donations, so perhaps there is reason for hope. Nobody in the Senate can come in and take charge as a freshman Senator - you have to play along for years and build alliances both within the party, and later with the opposition party Senate colleagues. It's a shame that it's set up that way and that needs to change, yet his hands were partially tied in the Senate, and thus his record reveals little of what Obama can do once given the leeway. And he should have the leeway, with the errors made by many in our economic balancing act.

I'm not pleased he used his discretion to authorize signing statements, especially since he's not yet in office, but I hope he will work to end the excess power of the office (harder to do than letting go of molasses once it gets on one's hands, but that would be the right thing to do..) Although, letting Bush and Co. do more damage might not be so good either..

I feel he is a man of integrity, and he has a reputation to uphold, plus given the circumstances, the writing is on the wall as far as the need for reform. But to change our economic system in such a way as to make it lastingly stable seems essential for a sound recovery..

Once you ignore someones fault's and call him a savior you're in trouble. On here he's compared to God, yet people overlook his past corruption. What does that say?

 

When people put so much faith and love into such a corrupt man, it scares me. If he does well i'll be happy and re-elect him but at the end he's still a very corrupt politician and not a god.
