Jon Hopkins!

Featured Replies

I can't believe there's no thread for him. Haha. Anyway, if you've never heard of Jon Hopkins before, there's a pretty high chance you've heard a sample of one of his tracks in a Coldplay song (Namely, Life In Techicolor/ Life In Technicolor II)

He does ambient music that's pretty cool.. You can check him out at his myspace:

Does anyone on this board like his music too?

I do :flutterby:

the only album I have is Contact Note, I could upload it if you're interested.

Do you have another album available in flac or mp3 ? I cant find the cd's.

Thanks a lot for Opalescent, much obliged :nice: Listening now.

Contact Note is beautiful. Not not your average ambient chill. Real upper class lol You can hear sounds that remind of LiT and Escapist. I am uploading now.

okay, thanks for letting us know Space Cadet =)

yeah, his music is beautiful

I don't know y but Small Memory reminds me of the Scientist . XD

I rather took a liking to Mr. Hopkins along the way, although for stadium shows, it was getting a bit boorish.

Jon Hopkins' new release, "Insides"

I purchased and downloaded the new release from Jon Hopkins last night and it is truly brilliant. I love his work with Coldplay on VLV and thought he was really good live as well. After I snagged the free download last week, I was hooked. To all who enjoyed the free download, I encourage you to get the entire album. You won't be disappointed.

i heard about half of the album on the radio this past weekend. sounds pretty awesome!! would make for great studying music, reminded me a little of Air actually

^thats cool.

I just now downloaded the album (apart from 'wire' and 'light through the veins' which were given away free).

Its great! The intro is stunning, and overall there's an amazing array of textures. The bass from vessel through wire gets a bit frantic and monotonous at times. But from Light through the veins onward its beautiful and interesting.

Jon Hopkins is awesome.

All his earlier stuff..... 'Circle' is one of the loveliest songs ever...with a killer bass as well.

I love the stuff that he had the animations to at the concerts, like Vessel. Really great.

Brian Eno, Karl Hyde, Jon Hopkins, Leo Abrhams & the Necks

This is Pure Scenius!

Brighton Festival Exclusive

Brian Eno, Karl Hyde, Jon Hopkins, Leo Abrhams, the Necks

Genius is individual, scenius is communal. Here seven individuals come together to imagine new forms of music, realised over three consecutive performances. This experiment had its only other outing last year as part of Luminous at the Sydney Opera House. In This is Pure Scenius!, Brian Eno will be joined on stage by Karl Hyde, guitarist Leo Abrahams, synthesist Jon Hopkins as well as Tony Buck, Lloyd Swanton and Chris Abrahams who comprise Australian improvisation masters, The Necks.

Each concert picks up where the preceding one left off. Starting from a predetermined sequence of events, each performance allows the development of ideas across three concerts - sometimes quite similar, sometimes worlds apart.

Like a laboratory conducting an undisclosed experiment, This is Pure Scenius! is a combustible, must-see mix of intellect, ideas and musical innovation.

Karl Hyde is the poet voice of Underworld who assimilated techno into the art-rock tradition with frantic cut-up lyrics, eccentric humour and waves of improvisation. Jon Hopkins is a musical shapeshifter, composer, pianist and self-taught studio wizard who co-produced Coldplay's Viva La Vida. Leo Abrahams was discovered by Eno and has since worked with Nick Cave and Grace Jones specialising in generating ambient sounds. Tony Buck, Lloyd Swanton and Chris Abrahams - collectively known as The Necks - are recognised as being among the world's most consistently great exponents of improvised music.

'The theatre of the music-making process was as enthralling as the music itself.'
