Ronaldo claims he wrote off two-day-old £200k Ferrari 'after slipping on oil'

Cristiano Ronaldo told his family he wrote off his £200,000 two-day old Ferrari after skidding on a patch of oil.

The Manchester United star walked away unscathed after smashing the 200mph red Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano into a tunnel wall in Manchester yesterday.

A source told a Portuguese newspaper: 'He said the crash was caused by moisture and oil on the road.'

Ronaldo's relief at emerging unhurt will have been matched by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who must have feared the worst when he heard his £60million-valued World Player of the Year had been in such a spectacular smash. Ronaldo's costly prang happened yesterday morning when he ploughed into a wall in a tunnel as he drove to United's training complex in his £190,000 supercar.

The 23-year-old, who is paid £120,000 a week at Old Trafford, was questioned by police over the crash. Officers will investigate whether he had been speeding and are likely to interview teammate Edwin Van Der Sar, 38, who was travelling behind.

The goalkeeper pulled over immediately to check Ronaldo had not suffered any serious injuries. A police source said: 'It appears the driver lost control of it before hitting the side of the tunnel. He was very lucky not to collide with other vehicles on the road in the crash and is even luckier to have escaped unharmed. 'It was a nasty crash and he could easily have suffered quite serious injuries - the damage to the car tells you that much.'

The incident happened at 10.20am close to his luxury home in Cheshire as he was driving through a tunnel, notorious among boy racers, under Manchester Airport. Police apparently suspect that as he went into the tunnel, which has a speed limit of 60mph, the footballer lost control before spinning into a side wall. The impact caused the car to lose a front wheel and it then ricocheted off the wall before coming to a stop.

Witness Jody Lomax said: 'The Ferrari went straight into the wall, his front lefthand wheel came off and then Ronaldo got out of the car. He was all right, he was walking - he was a bit shaken.'

Another witness said: 'I got there just after the accident and saw the state of the car. It is amazing he got out of it without a scratch.'

Ronaldo later arrived at the training ground at Carrington, near Sale, where a club spokesman confirmed he was not injured.

The Portuguese international, who was recently named World Player of the Year for his astonishing performances last season which helped United win the Premier League and the Champions League, has spent around £ 2million on cars since arriving in England five years ago.

He splashed out £350,000 on a Rolls-Royce Phantom and then spent £150,000 on a personalised number plate, CR7, for it. He has also bought two Porsche Cayennes, a BMW M6, Porsche 911, an Audi R8 and a Bentley Continental GT.

Uninjured: Ronaldo, who came on as a substitute in the final half hour in the 1-0 loss at Derby County on Wednesday, was back at training on the day of the crash

How can you spend ridicously £200,000 on A SINGLE CAR?! You can buy a whole house with that money :stunned: Or donate it, or spend it for something help-or useful.

I don't like such decadent people, that's the reason why I absolutly don't feel sorry for him.

Oh and a last thing
