I'm pretty sure they have new material emerging all year round, even when on tour.

Perhaps they never release it, or it becomes a b-side. It doesn't necessarily have to be one on the new album.

Years and years from now when Coldplay is no longer together, they should go through all of the completed songs they've never released and either give them to us as free downloads (a la Violet Hill) or release them in a bunch of exclusive bundles every six months or something.

They're playing a brand new song less than 18 hrs old in soundcheck. Gorgeous.
