Viva La Vida picks up award

Good afternoon. At today's Ivor Novello awards in London, Viva La Vida won the award for Best Selling British Song. The Ivor Novellos honour "excellence in British music writing", so it's a welcome addition to the band's collective mantelpiece. The award was collected on behalf of Coldplay by their long-standing publisher and friend, Caroline Elleray. Click here for the full list of winners.

Coldplay, Elbow and The Last Shadow Puppets have all been nominated for Ivor Novello awards.

Duffy and the relatively unknown songwriter, Nick Hemming, who fronts The Leisure Society, have also received nominations.

The awards ceremony will take place in London next month.

Elbow and The Last Shadow Puppets will go head-to-head with Hemming in the category of Best Song.

Elbow are also nominated for Best Contemorary Song alongside The Ting Tings and Calvin Harris and Dizzee Rascal.

Coldplay and Duffy have been nominated for the same three awards: Best Album, Most Performed and Best-Selling British Song.

The Best-Selling category also features M.I.A., who has received a nomination for the song ‘Paper Planes’.

The Ting Tings are also nominated for Best Album for ‘We Started Nothing’.

A host of other awards, including Best Film Soundtrack, will be handed out on the night of the ceremony on May 21.

Down with Duffy, no repeat of The Brits please

Nice

Funnily enough I own all three albums that are up for the Album Award.

In saying that, VLVODAAHF and Rockferry are in a completely different league compared to We Started Nothing.

I do feel that Coldplay are most deserving of the award though.

I own almost ALL of those! :) Rockferry, Age of the Understatement, Seldom Seen Kid, and Viva La Vida.

They are the best band ever, they must win!!!!!!!;)

You can never have too many awards, eh, boys?

I hope Elbow racks up a few also!

Agree with Mich, hopefully no repeat of the Brits. They really deserve to win.

Good luck boys :nice:

They won't be there, then, cause they'll be HERE- my concert's that night! Teehee :D

Anywayyy, congrats boys! I always love it when they get nominated for songwriting, it feels like an "in your face" to the people who say that their songwriting is sub par :dozey:

Yeahh! They should give a good lesson to Elbow this time!!!:)

I think @Most Performed Work@ is really should come to Coldplay! BEcause they trully were MOST in 2008!

Congratulations guys!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

Damn!!! I really hope that the idiots behind the Brit Awards are squirming with embarrassment and feeling like the utterly stupid morons that they are for snubbing the guys in favour of a stupid Welsh bimbo and an aging metal head band!!!!

The Ivor Novello Awards are far more prestigious awards anyway, than the low class Brits!!!!!!

I agree with you almost completely, but its seems all Britain voted on Brits, didn't it? All of them idiots?!)

Anyway, text of Viva La Vida really ingenious!

CONGRATULATIONS COLDS!
