PianoRocker
Like I said, I'm not sure about the Violet Hill how they play it now. I transcribed the version how Chris played it at the early concerts before the Viva La Vida tour. Life in Technicolor(II) is played in Drop D on bass, with the notes: A, E, D, F#, C# and G#. That is the A major scale.(A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#) So Esus4 and E will fit both. (Tnspieler, your Esus2 = Esus4) So to compare it with the LiT chords. F#m - D - A. Play them in standard tuning, sounds good. But now play them in EADGC#C# tuning, sounds bad, also... that D is almost impossible in that tuning. You have to stretch alot AND a C# over D won't work that great. The chord is D, and not D7, not even Dm. If the Minor won't fit, then the 7th absolutly won't fit. So C# won't fit the chords in the song. He can tuned it different, but not both strings to C#.

hystw
Hi! This morning I try to get the best sound on my guitar for Violet Hill. After watching some videos, I think that the tuning is: D# G# C# F# C# C# And the chord are (I don't know exactly the name, but I think that you undertand): Dm: x 12 12 10 0 0 C: x 10 10 9 0 0 Bb: x 8 8 7 0 0 G5: 3 5 5 0 0 0 F#5: 2 4 4 0 0 0 F5: 1 3 3 0 0 0 E5: 0 2 2 0 0 0 Gm: x 5 5 3 0 0 F: x 3 3 2 0 0 Dm It was a long and dark December C From the rooftops I remember Bb Gm - G5 F#5 F5 E5 There was snow, white snow Dm Clearly I remember C From the windows they were watching Bb Gm - G5 F#5 F5 E5 While we froze down below Bb When the future's architectured C Dm By a carnival of idiots on show C You'd better lie low Am Bb Am F Dm C Dm If you love me, won't you let me know? Dm Was a long and dark December When the banks became cathedrals Bb C Gm - G5 F#5 F5 E5 And a fox became God Dm Priests clutched onto bibles Hollowed out to fit their rifles Bb C Gm And a cross held aloft Bb Bury me in armour C When I'm dead and hit the ground Dm C My nerves are poles that unfroze Am Bb Am F Dm C Dm And if you love me, won't you let me know? Solo: [Dm Bb C Gm - G5 F#5 F5 E5] x 2 Bb I don't want to be a soldier C Who the captain of some sinking ship Dm C Would stow, far below. Am Bb Am F Dm C Dm So if you love me, why d'you let me go? Bb C Dm F Bb C I took my love down to violet hill Bb C Dm F Bb There we sat in snow Bb C Dm F Bb Dm C All that time she was silent still Am Bb Am F Dm C Dm Said if you love me, won't you let me know? Am Bb Am F Dm C Dm If you love me, won't you let me know? I invite you to try to play the song like this, and you correct me if I'm wrong. I hope to have helped :) If don't understand something, tell me. I'm not good with english, and I can have mistakes. EDIT: The chord aren't wealthy, I don't know why =? Vincymon
open chords with the tuning E A D G C# C# is how its done :) oh so that's how violet hill is played. Yeah, like the others mentioned, both these songs can be played quite normally in standard tuning.
lostsides
Are you lot all drummers or are you just tone deaf?
herrijt
bohs man is correct. The Violet Hill/LIT tuning is : E A D G C# C# I was just passing time (maybe I was on the toilet, maybe I wasn't) going through the newest Tour Program and there is a page that has a collage of pictures (one of them being a setlist from 08, most likely for a guitar tech) and there are tunings out to the side of a few songs. If this is posted somewhere else, I apologize Cemeteries of London: A A D G B E Chinese Sleep Chant (Standard) 42: E A D G B D Strawberry Swing (Standard) Yellow: E A B G B D That's all I can tell from the program, enjoy! princesanji
Yellow: E A B G B D huh?? sure?! well, these are certainly for acousic guitar, right? but is he really using a guitar on 42? and isn't cemeteries of london in Eb minor? so why he'd have it kind of "normal" (no flat tuned string)
