May 8, 200917 yr i think Coldplay is great all the time. and the problem i have with people saying that VLV sounds completely different from the other albums is that all of the albums are different from each other.

May 9, 200917 yr Songs like 42, Yes, and Strawberry Swing are totally genius but wouldn't ever cut it as mainstream singles. I'd agree with 42 & Yes, but SS could have been a huge hit.
May 9, 200917 yr I don't think anhy of their songs are 'poppish'. Pop is generally the songs with absolutely rubbish meaning lyrics. And I don't think the music is poppy either. The instruments are very different to what is usually used on pop songs, and are also different to the usual Cildplay songs (pre Viva that is) It is still great music and the same incredible band.
May 9, 200917 yr I actually think X&Y is more mainstream than VLVODAAHF. Songs like 42, Yes, and Strawberry Swing are totally genius but wouldn't ever cut it as mainstream singles. You know the band was actually thinking of releasing 42 as the first single. I wonder how that would've worked out.

I wouldn't consider VLVODAAHF at all mainstream, apart from the title track, which wasn't even intended to be a single until the iTunes ad, which skyrocketed its popularity (in fact it was almost left off the album entirely because the band questioned its place amongst the rest of the songs).
May 9, 200917 yr This. VLV was almost left off? Really? I heard that about Violet Hill, but never VLV? Is there more story behind that? I'd like to hear it.
May 9, 200917 yr Viva (the album i mean lol) is like my favorite album.... oh i don't know... that or X & Y... i luv em both!
May 9, 200917 yr I really like Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends because Coldplay was trying new things.
May 9, 200917 yr I like the harder coldplay stuff! but then again i listen to hard metal, so.... lol!
May 9, 200917 yr VLV was almost left off? Really? I heard that about Violet Hill, but never VLV? Is there more story behind that? I'd like to hear it. Yeah, it's funny though, it seems the biggest hits off the last 3 albums were like that. Clocks was the last to be added to AROBTTH, Talk almost didn't get added to X&Y, and Viva almost didn't get added to VLVODAAHF. And the weirdest thing, ALL THREE of those songs got Grammy nominations or wins! In regards to mainstream, the last two albums are definately more mainstream than the first two, but VLVODAAHF isn't really as much as X&Y was. VLV the song is very mainstream in it's music (lyrics not as much) and I remember the first time I heard it was surprised how 'poppy' it was. It actually overtook 'The Hardest Part' as the most poppy Coldplay song, but then they released 'Rainy Day' and I feel that's more pop than VLV. Also, I do prefer the acoustic versions of 'Lost' and 'Lovers in Japan' to the album versions.
May 9, 200917 yr VLV is SOOOOOOO pop and mainstream IMO.....Please Coldplay go back to the way u were!!!!!!
May 9, 200917 yr ??? ummm... no offense but... Why the HECK do u think Viva is pop?!?!?! coldplay's definately NOT pop.
May 9, 200917 yr ??? ummm... no offense but... Why the HECK do u think Viva is pop?!?!?! coldplay's definately NOT pop. Ya it is.....almost all the songs on that album are pop like..... again IMO!
May 9, 200917 yr ummm... no, actually they're not, FYI, they're ALTERNATIVE. and some are ALTERNATIVE pop, but that is much different from POP. it also has songs like Violet Hill, for example, that are ALTERNATIVE ROCK. thank you. :P
May 9, 200917 yr When I downloaded each of their albums into iTunes, iTunes puts that they're Alternative & Punk. Though, X&Y says that it's Pop. I think maybe iTunes doesn't know what it's talking about, or maybe some music, as the album X&Y is Pop? Sorry for being off-topic. =/

May 9, 200917 yr I respectfully have to disagree with Choldplayer. I think VLVODAAOHF is amazing. I don't find anything "mainstream" about it all. If anything, X&Y is probably their most "mainstream" sounding album....and it's a good 'un, too. I just love all of Coldplay's albums, though. That's why I'm here.
May 9, 200917 yr I actually think Parachutes is kinda boring towards the end, I mean after Yellow it gets kinda boring, slow, maybe sad. There's much more color like they say on VLV it's just amazing how they make an album where every song is special and sooo different from the others but not in a way that they don't seem to belong together. Maybe just ROL is the one that kinda screws it but I think it's amazing. I mean there are good bands with good albums but all the songs is the same instruments, the same thing and some are more experimental like Muse I would say BHAR I toootally love it and all songs really are special form each other but somehow I feel they're not as connected as VLV's can be.
