U2 Should Follow Coldplay's Lead

Featured Replies

And release a free live album of their upcoming 360 tour. But also like U2 Coldplay should release DVD's of their tours from now on. I think a Viva La Vida DVD would be brilliant and a free U2 live album would bring U2 back up to Coldplay in terms of biggest band in the world.

A U2 free album would be fantastic and we all know what they can do live. Under A Blood Red Sky is rock history and is a must see even for non U2 fans. Whether they or any band in the world can pull off a concert as great as that remains to be seen. 360 though will be amazing.

What I dont hink they released a dvd ut still it ROCKS!!! Eddie Vedder kills Bono as a frontman.

Agreed. U2 have released a tonne of live DVDs and can really pull it off. They've done a great job with it. They definitely have the resources to do a free live album. Even if it was just a download on their website or something I would be happy.

It would be cool to see what the Bare Naked Ladies did one tour where you could buy a USB drive after the show with a recording of that nights show on it.

I've always said Coldplay should do that too. I'm sure it would prove very popular.;)

On Marillion's last tour, you could get an official audio download of every show, plus they produced a DVD of one of the shows too.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult for Coldplay to do the same.;)

Yeah, it would definitely sell a lot of copies.

I think most people who went to a show would love to have a live DVD as a sort of souvenir. (And with the size of this tour that is alot of people!)

Exactly. And if they made good quality digital audio downloads of every show available for a reasonable price, I'm sure a lot of people would go for them.

Except no one likes U2 anymore so it would be pointless.

^And the multiple sold out shows of huge stadiums agrees with your statement.

i really hope you realise that U2 and coldplay are not the only two bands in the world. and that u2 arent the only band to ever release live dvd's. also that a cd of 9 live tracks doesnt constitute a "live album". each band should stick to their strengths. U2 put on a great stage show, a spectacle of sorts and that will not convert well on a cd regardless of whether its free or retail price. the only thing that makes coldplay a half decent live act is chris martin's showmanship and charisma particularly his banter between songs (not so much during songs) and there was little or none of that on leftrightleftrightleft. what they did with the Live 2003 dvd was perfect, a couple of arena shows combined, tour diary and an accompanying cd with a few tracks.

another reason why coldplay should not bother following U2. coldplay crowds are well.......boring. you watch almost any U2 arena/stadium show and there are people jumping up and down in the pit like theres no tomorrow, you just dont get that with coldplay making for some very dull viewing regardless of how good the band is. if CP are to make a live dvd i really hope they record it in an arena not a massive football stadium, their songs lose feeling in those venues. and lets face it, they're not muse.

under a blood red sky never repeated? you must be kidding right!! i admit its a spectacular performance (i prefer Paris 1987) but you should really get your hands on some other concerts

- Led Zeppelin @ Madison Square Gardens 1973

- The Who Live @ Leeds

- INXS @ Wembley 1991

- Queen @ Milton Keynes

- Placebo @ Bercy 2003

- Radiohead @ Rock Am Ring 2001 (something about this show i can't get enough of)

- Arcade Fire @ Glastonbury 2007

- Pink Floyd @ Pompeii 1973

- RHCP @ Rock In Rio III 2001 ( a little bias here)

- Muse @ Glastonbury 2004

this rant has gone for long enough and i havent even started on the death of the live album or pearl jam's outrageous releases in 2000. but i hope i have made the point that U2 does not need to release a 'free' album nor does coldplay HAVE TO bring out a dvd of a live show. i would rather they be creative in what goes on a potential dvd.

so you're throwing down the gauntlet there for Coldplay fans to party harder at the gigs going forward then? ;)

but then, seriously, nobody really goes to a concert thinking how interesting or cool they are gonna look on a live video recording. & the same "boring" Coldplay fans could very well be the same "people jumping up and down in the pit" at U2 gigs.

not trying to start an argument with you, btw. & i think the OP probably just picked U2 cos he/she likes both U2 & Coldplay too. i know i'd do a similar comparison & wishlist too...heh :D

personally i would just sit around twiddling my thumbs for the day a band i like do some special fan service for us fans...be it something that´s been done before by another band or something totally out of the box. it's the effort/thought that counts, imo.

I'd love for Coldplay to release live DVDS regardless. U2 have released so many live albums already (compared to Coldplay's 2 live albums), so they don't really need to release another one.

If they did decide to release a free live album from the current tour, though, I'd definitely be in line to download it. :cool2:

U2 will never do that, Bono needs the money to pay for sunglasses.

Winpost!!

Not to mention private jets to fly his collection of hats around the world

nothing but a tabloid/rag^.

so is the new U2 bashing I heard about... so Coldplay is the 'ideal band' and every other band should follow their lead?

I don't think so. Radiohead is the 'ideal band' and every other band should follow their lead.

hahaha... NOW UR TALKIN.. :D This I agree with 100%!

what U2 bashing? i absolutely love U2!!

they're the biggest band in the world and imo the last of the megabands. so i think its fair game to poke a little fun at them. none of us are putting down their music (not that i know of at least) and they deserve every bit of success that has come their way. i've always said that if coldplay become even half the band that U2 is. it will be a miracle.

and of course neither band could ever lay a finger on Radiohead.

Biggest band in the world, but maybe not the biggest band in the UK, where only 2 of their stadium gigs have sold out.

please do not offend U2! I can understand that not everybody loves them, but they're really the biggest best in the world, and yes, they have a lot of money, maybe because they're a successful band since '80?! moreover they support many charitable projects and Bono himself went to Africa many times..so what's the problem?
