But that's a bit shit. Chris tells him he's good looking, but that has nothing to do with the music. You hear Chris talk about Jonny "the best guitar player ever" and he's always telling him to step forward during his guitar parts (especially on the X&Y tour). Then with Will, Chris compliments him on his drumming abilities fairly often. But Guy never really gets "and this is the best bassline ever" you know? It's just like oh yeah, he's got a pretty face. It doesn't really have to do with the music.

i guess if we're talking strictly musically, then it actually is Guy. because he too has played many different instruments and sang over the years but doesnt really get complimented on that.

Well, all Guy really gets appreciated for is his looks. Which is kind of depressing I guess. But in that case, maybe Will would be underrated. But again, that would probably be from only the female side.

But his looks are all Guy seems really apprieciated for, like that's all he has to offer. I agree with the person earlier who sad that Chris is always talking about what great musicians Jonny & Will are, he never says that kind of thing about Guy.

 

My boyfriend is a Coldplay fan, but not an obsessive one and he barely seems to know of Guy's existence. Think he has a bit of a man-crush on Will actually :P

Will all the way.he can play so many instruments, it's crazy.He also has as great voice.And he is a wise man :)

Guy must also be seen as something else than Prettyboy.I think he is very technical and knowledgeable when it comes to recording and such.He seems to know a lot about that stuff. That should be more appreciated.I love his bass playing as well.

I was just trying to say that Will may only be underrated in terms of looks from the female audience or whatever. But musically, which is what matters obviously I think, it's definately Guy.

I voted for Guy... I could've voted for Will, but I didn't. Just... because.

Chris not mentioning him doesn't make him underrated though, Chris is one person. Guy doesn't have a solo part in the show so it would be weird if he randomly told everyone to listen to the bass in the middle of a song.

Chris gets all the attention but he also gets ALOT of flack, criticism of the band is mostly lumped on him...his musical abilities are rarely mentioned in reviews of the band, if anything that makes HIM underrated since most of the stuff written about him is negative.

 

My point is that Chris constantly says how he would be shit on his own, that the band works because of them all and if any of them left it would be over. Just because he doesn't mention Guy doesn't mean he doesn't rate him as a musician, lets cut him some slack here.

I think amongst the fans and other musicians, Chris would never be considered underrated - it's just the press who hate him because he doesn't fit in to their cookie-cutter mould of what a rock star should be. Chris is always talked about as Chris - Jonny, Will and Guy are so frequently referred to as "the other three" I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to copyright the label.

That's not what I'm saying. Maybe it's just a role of a bass player. The point is musically, in the public view, I believe Guy is definately the most underrated. He doesn't get much credit... that's how i'd define being "underrated".

 

Maybe he's like Ringo from the Beatles. Good, solid, and a key component, but no one really notices the musical contribution. I dunno.

Meh...bassists are underrated in most bands.

Actually, I think that Guy, compared to other bassists, is overrated!

So, it's no biggie, & I think he's okay with that fact.

 

But the odd thing is when you find the main guitarist being underated as in Jonny's case.

Just because he doesn't do drugs or acts like a cock when he talks about his guitar riffs doesn't mean he's not one of the greatest guitarists in the music history.
