Recommend Me An Album That Will Blow My Mind

Featured Replies

Please?

I feel like I am in a bit of a music rut.

Something slow, but still quite heavy. Lol, I dunno what I mean. Basically not all frantic with too many instruments and too much noise. One that has meaningful, kind of sensitive lyrics that will put me in either a depressed or thoughtful mood.

Some bands in this style that I like for reference : Coldplay, White Lies, U2, Killers, KoL, Keane, Radiohead, etc etc.

I wouldn't even mind something a lot more upbeat like Franz Ferdinand, as long as it's brilliant.

So what am I missing out on? I don't care if the album is old or whatever. I just want music that's new to ME.

slow and heavy? The only band I can think of that is Radiohead

mm what about led zep?

The album Folkloric Feel by Apostle of Hustle blew me away first listen.

Lol, not necessarily slow and heavy. Just not too heavy or too slow. And happy medium. And hmmm... not really into classic rock.

And thanks Briggins, but I dunno, sounds too folky. I was thinking more rock-ish and sort of atmospheric? I'm bad with adjectives. :(

Any other suggestions guys? :)

"The Cost" by The Frames. Just go look up some reviews anywhere and you'll see nearly every one says it's the best band no one has ever heard of. That is their best album imo and it is soft and sometimes a little loud and slow occasionally but not dull. It's like the perfect album.

it's like Coldplay-ish rock but with a slight more edge I guess, rock but not too rocky. just check it out and you'll love it I guarantee 100%.

Ohh I just youtubed this. Listened to "People All Get Ready", sounds really good.

I think I'll check this album out. :)

Thanks.

I'll check out some of the other recommendations too for sure. Can never have too much music.

that's a terrific song, but about 5 are better than it. not a bad song on there :D

but yeah keep the recommendations coming! i may check out some of these

yeah, 'burn the maps' is also really great. my favorite frames album.

Slow and heavy made me think of sigur ros's first two albums, 'agaetis byjun' and ( ) if you haven't already heard those and don't mind icelandic.

In english, The Verve's "storm in heaven' shoots to mind. Its floaty and atmospheric, but with great guitar. And also u2's 'the unforgettable fire' if you haven't already heard it.

nirvana-in utero, bob dylan-the freewheeln bob dylan...both of these have very thoughtful lyrics and both are classics that if you haven't heard before you should now.

Kent's Du & jag döden

"described by the band as dark and depressing"

Purple Haze. That'll blow anyone's mind........................ :P

M. Ward's new album "Hold Time" is fantastic, with bits of old rock sound and a bit of Jonny Cash thrown in with all kinds of other cool touches. I loved it from first listen! His album "Post-War" is great too, and "Transfiguration of Vincent O Brien." I really do like his lyrics and they're quite thought provoking.

A great live performance [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X3vlC88M28]YouTube - M. Ward - "To Save Me" on Ferguson 3/6/09 (TheAudioPerv.com)[/ame]

Andrew Bird's "Noble Beast" and "Armchair Apocrypha" are some of my current favorite albums. Armchair is darker, the lyrics are delicious, dark, strange and brilliant. Noble Beast is a bit more gentle and is just beautiful. There is a lot of haunting stuff there.

(My favorite Bird song [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXGK2sYXdBU]YouTube - Andrew Bird - Not a Robot, But a Ghost[/ame] )

(from Armchair [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnXCzFnkxtY&feature=related]YouTube - Andrew Bird - "Imitosis"[/ame] )

The Decemberists' "The Crane Wife" album has been another favorite... it's AMAZING, beautiful, sad, thought provoking and strange. I definitely suggest it, and if you like it, also check out "Picaresque"!

GREAT song [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83GeGNegaNQ]YouTube - The Decemberists - The Perfect Crime No. 2[/ame]

I've also been listening to some My Morning Jacket lately... maybe you could try them?

Eskimo Joe perhaps? Black Fingernails Red Wine is their breakout album and I reckon it could fit your description.

Nah, you want an atmospheric sound. This band perfectly fits the description you gave, quite amazingly.

The Temper Trap = Conditions (Album)

It's a debut. Here's the singles:

Try Mew

I second that suggestion....try Mew - you won't be disappointed... I was gonna suggest their album, Mew...And the Glass Handed Kites..but if you don't want anything too instrument heavy..try Frengers instead.

I number one album I can think of that fits that description is "The Last Broadcast" by Doves. And their other stuff too. And stuff by Elbow if you like them- especially "The Seldom Seen Kid".

Also, seconded on Hey Rosetta! and Blonde Redhead's "23"

And if you like the Blonde Redhead, check out Caribou- he's awesome.

True, Elbow and Doves are highly recommended here.

If you don't already have it..The ULTIMATE mind blowing album is this one....

and you can try also this:

aww man I didn't know you were a Frames fan. Fake and Finally are the best songs on that album hands down.

Purple Haze. That'll blow anyone's mind........................ :P

Very true, but it is a difficult album to get into, and it's not really rock except for a few songs. Too slow I think for what this person is looking for.
