claro, yo soy boricua

Ooh, I'll have to disagree... I think What If is better lyrically. I like how it's a change from the 'break up' and 'love pains' themes that was evident in most of the songs in A Rush of Blood era.

Also, I heard it's about Chris's daughter, Apple. I think that's so sweet. :P

What if IMO is better, but The Scientist has an amazing video.

The Scientist > What If

It's a fact.

What If can be really cheesy at times. :wacky:

.

Not the most similar of songs, but whatever, as I'll take The Scientist any day. Both are pretty decent lyrically (though What If does indeed have cheesy parts), but The Scientist is much better musically. What If gets really repetitive and just drags on, being my least-favorite track off X&Y.

Upon early listenings of X&Y, I often mistook What If with the title track.

And in this case, I do prefer The Scientist, though I like both songs.

I totally agree, especially the chorus, on "what if" i think it's not very good.

What if there was no light

Nothing wrong nothing right

What if there was no time

And no reason or rhyme

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in your life

What if I got it wrong

And no poem or song

Could put right what I got wrong

Or make you feel I belong

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in your life

Ooh that's right

Let's take a breath and jump over the side

Ooh that's right

How can you know it when you don't even try?

Ooh that's right

Every step that you take

Could be your biggest mistake

It could bend or it could break

That's the risk that you take

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there in your life?

That you don't want me there by your side?

Ooh that's right

Let's take a breath jump over the side

Ooh that's right

How can you know it when you don't even try?

Ooh that's right

Oh

Ooh that's right

Let's take a breath jump over the side

Ooh that's right

You know that darkness always turns into light

Ooh that's right

What If

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry

You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you

Tell you I need you

Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets

And ask me your questions

Oh, let's go back to the start

Running in circles

Coming up tails

Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy

It's such a shame for us to part

Nobody said it was easy

No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing

At numbers and figures

Pulling the puzzles apart

Questions of science

Science and progress

Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me

Come back and haunt me

Oh, and I rush to the start

Running in circles

Chasing our tails

Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy

Oh, it's such a shame for us to part

Nobody said it was easy

No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start

The Scientist

Thought I'd post the lyrics. :shy:

I think I'd have to go with What If lyrically. Though, I'd rather listen to The Scientist 'cause I think the lyrics me more when Chris is singing it. Hopefully that makes sense, lol.

What If has nothing on The Scientist.

What If = nice

The Scientist = favourite song of all time.

Gotta agree with everyone that says Scientist > What If.

The Scientist is one of those songs that sends shivers up my spine, like Fix You, like A Message, like Green Eyes.

Anything that has that physical effect on my will always win out vs one that, although a great song, does not.

What If = ick

The Scientist = actually good

The Scientist for sure.

I'm not a huge fan of the chorus on What If... but love the rest. When X&Y came out, Will he thought it was the best song Chris had done lyrically or something like that.

I would have to say The Scientist. But What If is also an amazing song!!! -Gigi

Though I personally love what if, the scientist takes it down. I was only a casual fan until I heard the scientist at which point I became convinced they were going to be my new favorite band.

What If was an attempt to recreate The Scientist. It's good, but not great.
