rudy_o
Do you think Coldplay is a rock band? Discuss.
I Bloom Blaum
I don't really like classifying music through genres. Especially bands, because bands (like Coldplay) can produce a wide array of different songs - usually of varying genres. Coldplay have a lot of what would be classifyed as 'rock' songs, as well as pop, soul, blues... heck, even some gospel music (Death Will Never Conquer, anyone? :P). So, yeah. I couldn't really classify them as a 'one-genre' band.

lovers.in.nj
As Chris has often said, Coldplay is a "limestone" band...they're soft rock but rock either way. But I do like the MANBAND thing xD

Talor
Honestly I dunno, they got their own unique style and i like it. I don`t think that they`re a typical rock band.
mksh24
eh they are more alternative
coldplay_is_louve.
Like Chris, I don't like the word "rock" to describe them. More limestone or soft rock. And alternative. But I guess those could fall under rock. I don't really know what to vote for because, they kind've are but kind've aren't. :uhoh.
blackchickintheback
iTunes classifies them as Alternative sooo.... But I like to describe them as "Britpop" It seems to fit.

Tnspieler1012
for heaven's sake people don't get tripped up on genre's. Just because you're a rock band doesn't mean they play typical rock n'roll. Radiohead and Sigur Ros count as 'rock bands' Most coldplay songs consist of guitar, drum, bass and vocals. Whether their style is more indie-rock or alternative-rock doesn't change the fact that they are clearly a rock band.
flickahidalgo
Coldplay is more of a everything. I would really classify them as rock. They are more of an indie rock or limestone rock.
strawberryfields
More rock than pop.
shipoffools
They're more of a pop rock band.
Corkus
Although some of their material is borderline pop, I still get a little irritated when I hear them referred to as a pop band. Honestly, rock is such a broad genre that it sometimes gets cloudy, but I really do think they fit into that large, fuzzy classification.
