They are, but I wish they'd be more experimental/prog rock-ish.

Sometimes I think that fame stops them from trying new stuff, they don't wanna disappoint the media...meh, what do I know!

I hate it when they're called pop.

I have to genre everything, as I am quite obsessive compulsive ;).

 

Mentally, I put them somewhere inbetween Alt. Rock and Brit Pop. Even though there isn't a great deal of difference between those two genres anyway.

It's hard to classify Coldplay to a genre, they should have their own genre: coldplay:P

But I think they classify as Rock and in Coldplay's case alternative or soft rock, defenitely not pop I really hate it when people see them as a ''pop band or pop group''. They aren't pop !

because when it goes into the rock or alternative rock sound is more punk or heavy metal.

 

and Coldplay inspired by the bands. example U2, Depeche mode, A-ha all sounds of the 80s.

they are more pop rock, i think most British rock bands are not really hardcore rock bands

their sound is more pop these days, how I long for the 'parachutes' sound again!

They are alternative and have turned more pop rock over the years but they're still sub genres of rock.

Think they're alternative-rock... but i'm agreed that they're not a ROCK (in the pure term of rock) band

Coldplay are not dance, Coldplay do not have a heavy beat, and definitely don't have have simple melodies.

we cannot classify them as one genre. because the music they use or the lyrics they produce varies. you cannot see a rock band style in the scientist where you can see it in yellow. their genre can be called as coldplay genre. but there is sth. i know for sure, coldplay is a rockin band !!
