If Only You Knew

PART THREE

"What you did on our first date, you know, beating up that guy with the knife was truly brilliant!" Jonny said, smiling as he ate his Spaghetti.

"Yep, well I've learnt it from my brother's!" Anna replied, grinning. "You know, Jonny, my family is big and I want it to be a bit bigger, how do you feel about getting married?"

Jonny finished eating what was in his mouth before talking, he was very big on manners.

"Married? I've known you three days!" Jonny said, laughing.

"I'm serious, Jonny, deadly serious!" Anna said, staring into Jonny's eyes.

"Well, Yes! Of course, you are great!" Jonny said, putting down his fork and grabbing Anna's hand.

"I love you!"

FIVE MONTHS LATER

"Chris, I'm getting married in four hours! Are you and the guys coming?" Jonny said, resting his phone on his shoulder as he riffled through his wardrobe for something suitable to wear for his wedding. "No! What do you mean no? Look, can't you get Moses christened another day? Oh fine!" Jonny put the phone down. Suddenly the phone rang again. "Hello? Yes, I'm Mr Buckland and yes I'm ready to get married? What, one hour, I thought it started at two o'clock! It's been moved forward? Fine, I'll get there for that time" Jonny put the phone down again, sighed and grabbed a shirt out of his wardrobe.

ONE HOUR LATER

"You may now kiss the bride!"

Secret's, Lies & Lust XIV

Crying, Gwyneth reached for her phone. "Will, for gods sake, pick up! Hey, Will, can you bring Apple up to see Guy! Now, if possible, please! Thanks!" Gwyneth hung up, reaching over Guy's bed and stroking his hear. "Has anybody told you how beautiful you are, Guy?" Gwyneth asked, smiling and wiping away a tear. Guy smiled back. "Guy, look I'm going to talk to you straight now, okay? Why do you think you are going to die?" Gwyneth asked, clutching Guy's hands.

"Gwyneth, can I ask you a question first?" Guy asked, trying to sit up but failing.

"Of course" Gwyneth said, helping Guy to rest his head back down.

"Why do you want to marry me? Is it to get your own back on Chris?"

"To get my own back? Of course not! I love you!"

"Buy why do you love me? What's so great about me!"

Gwyneth laughed. "Well, ask any girl in the world and I bet you will get the same answer!"

"Gwyneth, I don't deserve you!"

"I don't deserve you!"

"Don't make me laugh, I'm a pathetic man, I'm a divorcee!"

"So am I!" Gwyneth laughed.

"All the years I spent with Chris, just looking at him and thinking, he has the best wife in the world and when I found out that he was having an affair with Jonny, I thought to myself, why throw all he has got away? A beautiful wife, two great kids and the lovely house!"

"Why did he throw it all away? Why did he hurt me so?" Gwyneth said, forcing a smile.

"Did you love him?" Guy asked.

"Of course I did, I was married for many years!" Gwyneth said.

"Do you still love him?" Guy asked.

"Well, so many years..."

"Do you have feelings for him?" Guy asked again, more aggresion in his voice.

"Guy! Guy! Guy! Calm down, no, Chris is in the past, there's nothing to worry about!" Gwyneth said, wiping another tear away.

"I'm sorry Gwyneth, please don't cry" Guy said, smiling and holding her hand.

"I don't want to lose you! Please Guy, why do you think that you are going to die?" Gwyneth asked, crying and laying on Guy.

"Gwyneth, I'll tell you but please be strong" Guy asked.

"Yes!" Gwyneth replied, flooding with tears.

"I have a cancerous brain tumour!" Guy said, fighting back tears.

"What!" Gwyneth asked, crying out in sadness. "How long?" she muttered.

"How long until what?" Guy asked, brushing away a tear.

"How long have you got left?" Gwyneth uttered, bursting out with more tears as she said the words.

"I don't know, days...hours" Guy said, hushing Gwyneth up. "Gwyneth, Gwyneth, hold my hand!" Gwyneth clutched firmly onto Guy's hand. "Stay with me, Gwyneth, I don't want to ever let you go, you are so beautiful...to me."

Chapter 1

Destiny's Hand

Guy closed the door to the doctor's office behind him.

He walked slowly through the front waiting room and passed by the receptionist in a fog.

"See you next week," she said, cheerfully.

Guy looked at her.

He wondered how she could be so cheerful when she dealt with people who were sick every day.

He continued down the hall and out the front doors of the office building.

It was a beautiful day outside and he put on his sunglasses as protection against the bright rays.

Then he took the sunglasses off slowly and put them away.

He looked around.

There were three pigeons pecking at the remnants of someones’ lunch.

Three black and white pigeons with yellow feet.

He made a note to himself.

In the sky there were high sirrus clouds floating in a lazy sea of blue.

What color blue, he asked.

Aquamarine blue, he thought.

No, no that is more like the ocean.

This blue was more like....sky blue of course.

He laughed at the absurdity of that.

A lovely young woman walked by and Guy watched the swish of her long skirt against her legs.

She smiled at him and he stared at her.

She looked a little scared and hurried on down the sidewalk.

He was just studying her face.

Studying what her eyes and lips looked like.

Taking in the color of her strawberry-blond hair that he figured was not natural.

But it was still beautiful.

He sat down on the concrete steps that lead to the large water fountain spraying droplets of liquid everywhere.

Guy saw the small rainbow created by the sunlight passing through the droplets and bending at just the right angle.

A butterfly flittered past and Guy watched it carefully.

The yellow and orange spots on the insect’s wings seemed to be almost neon they were so bright.

“I will certainly miss all these things,” Guy thought to himself.

The words from the doctor echoed in his head.

He put his head down and tried to make them go away.

But he couldn’t.

He just kept hearing the diagnosis over and over.

“You are going blind.”

Violent Waters

Chapter 3---it's sort of short.

“Guy!” I winced as Jonny snapped his fingers in my face. “Pay attention, man, we need you.”

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, desperately trying to remember what I had been working on. But I hadn’t been focusing at all, and I was beginning to think that the two months I had taken off from the band hadn’t been a good idea. After all, those two months had gotten me into using. I still couldn’t believe it. I would have never thought I would be into that sort of thing.

“Come on, what’s wrong? You look like you’re gonna puke.” My stomach flipped at the thought.

“I’m okay,” I insisted. But I knew that I wasn’t. I could feel myself trembling, not from fear, but from something deep in my body that I couldn’t control. I could also feel everyone’s eyes on me as Jonny put a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it.

“You’re shaking,” he murmured into my ear. “Are you cold or something?” I shook my head and tried to smile reassuringly. “You’re kind of pale too. Hey, guys, I think we should stop,” called Jonny to the rest of the band. I felt myself blanch in terror.

“What? Why? Jonny, I’m fine.”

By this time, Will and Chris were openly stripping me down with their gazes. I shrank under their scrutiny, feeling as if I were on display. It wouldn’t have been the first time I felt that way. “Jonny’s right,” interrupted Will. “You don’t look so good. And when I called you earlier...”

“I’m fine. I promise,” I choked out. I hated lying to them more than anything, but there was no way I could let them on to what I was doing. If they knew, there was no doubt in my mind that they would hate me for it. It was so low...such a horrible thing to do to oneself. And I knew it. It was desperate and childish...but there was no way I could stop. I felt tears begin to well up in my eyes, and I hastily moved to wipe them away.

“Guy?” whispered Jonny. “What’s wrong?”

I took my bass of my shoulder, as I felt it was weighing me down. “Nothing’s wrong.”

“I thought you were getting better...you used to look better...” he said gently.

“I said I’m fine!”

“Are things going okay in therapy...?” added Chris bluntly. God, I wanted to hit him.

“There’s nothing wrong with me!” I yelled. I could feel sweat dripping down my back despite my chills. Okay, so maybe there was something wrong with me. “I just...” I just need a fix.

“What?” pressed Will. I shuddered and tried to slip out of Jonny’s grip.

“I just need some air,” I mumbled, pushing my hair back. Will shrugged and Chris nodded, but Jonny continued to look deeply at me. He removed his hand from my shoulder and I practically stumbled to the door. By the time I made it out onto the street, there were tears flowing freely down my face.

At that point I would have done anything to make the pain go away.

Finding My Sunshine (Part 9)

Chris's PoV

I knocked on her hotel room door gently. At times like this you had to be very gentle with her or... well bad things happen. Carla walked over and opened the door and I could see marks from her tears already. She let me in, silently as she shut the door, and we both sat on the edge of her bed, just as me and Jonny had.

"So how'd Jonny take it?" She asked looking up at me with sadness in her eyes.

"How'd you know I already went to see him?" I asked, confused. I had given her no sign of me going to see Jonny.

"I know you, Chris." Said she, softly her voice starting to crack and her eyes starting to water.

"He was very upset," I told her and looked down. "More upset than I have seen him in a very, very long time."

"Oh," she said it lighter than a whisper and a tear fell from her face, she tried to wipe it from her face before I could see it, but it was too late. She cupped her face with her hands and I could hear her start to cry.

I put my arms around her and had her lay her head on my chest as I rubbed her back softly. "Hey, It's okay." I told her, trying to bring her spirits up.

"I love him, Chris," Carla said as she continued to cry. "I really, really do."

"I know," I said. "and he loves you too."

She rose her teary face from my chest, "I'm sorry I'm keeping you here, Chris." she said. "You can leave if you want. "

"Are you sure?" I asked her, concerned.

"Yeah, I need to relax, really." She told me.

"Okay," I told her as I got up from next to her slowly. "I guess I'll see you later." And I left her room slowly, thinking; they were in love, deep love.

Chapter 2

Destiny's Hand

"Corneal dystro........something....

That's what I have," Guy said to himself.

Even the name sounded ridiculous.

It might be inherited the doctor had told him.

No one in his family had anything like that.

Guy imagined himself sitting in the doctor's office listening to the diagnosis.

"It cannot be cured. The only option to see again will be a corneal transplant."

"A transplant?" Guy had asked, "What are the chances of that?"

"Transplants work well in the cornea," the doctor said, "You just have to find a suitable match."

Then there was all the paperwork involved in getting Guy added to the transplant list.

It was all so surreal.

He was the one with the eye for color and shapes.

The one that loved to spend all his free time taking photographs.

Yet, this was happening to him.

Why?

"You seem distracted today,"Will said, "Everything okay?"

"Sure," Guy said.

He had decided not to tell the others about his condition just yet.

The doctor had said there was no exact timetable for the progression of the disease.

Each person was different.

If he was lucky, there might be a cornea found for him even before the symptoms got any worse.

Then no one would have to know that he was going blind.

"Want to get something to eat after this?" Will asked.

"Okay," Guy shrugged, "Why not?"

"We are going to that new place over on the next block," Jonny said.

"Isn't that the one with that pretty waitress?" Guy asked.

"Yep, she's the same one that used to give you extra sprinkles on your ice cream cone," Will said.

Guy remembered her.

She was a cute, perky little brunette with a button nose and a sweet upturned mouth.

He thought about how she looked.

At least I'll still be able to see her in my head, he thought.

"Why didn't you ever ask her out?" Will asked.

"I don't know," Guy said.

He didn't want to tell them it was because he had been feeling so rotten lately.

Chapter 3

Destiny's Hand

The restaurant was packed when they arrived but the waitress they spoke of earlier hurried right over.

"Hi," she said, "I'm so glad you boys could come tonight."

She looked at Guy and he gave her a little wink.

She really didn't have time to talk to them while they were eating because she was so busy.

As they were about to walk out the door, Guy looked back at her.

She motioned for him to wait.

"I'll catch up with you guys later," he said.

Jonny just winked at him and smiled slightly.

Guy leaned up against the side of the building and lit a cigarette.

Shortly, she came out.

"Thanks for waiting," she told him, "I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you more tonight."

"That's okay," he told her, "The place was really busy."

"I won't get off until late," she said.

"I don't have any other plans," he told her.

"I mean really late," she said, "We have to clean up and all."

"What time?" he asked.

"About 2 am."

"I'll be back then," he told her.

"I feel strange asking you this," she said, "But what is your name?"

He laughed.

"I'm sorry. My name is Guy. What is your name?"

"Justine," she said.

"Wow..that's a bit unusual," he told her.

"Yeah, it was a nightmare in school."

"I can imagine," he said.

"What shall we do now?" she asked.

"Let's just take a walk and talk," he said.

They ended up sitting in the grass at the park.

They talked and laughed.

Guy tried to memorize every inch of her face and the hazel color of her eyes.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.

"Because I don't want to forget how beautiful you are," he said.

"Why would forget?" she asked.

"Because I am going blind," he told her.

"What?" she asked, quietly, "Why?"

"Some sort of hereditary disorder," he said.

"Isn't there anything that can be done?" she asked.

"I can hope for a transplant, but that doesn't seem fair. That means somebody else has to die so that I can see."

"How long until....."

"The doctors aren't sure," he said.

She put her hand on his face.

"You have such beautiful eyes," she said, "I can't imagine that you won't be able to see."

"I can't imagine it either," he said.

Chapter 4

Destiny's Hand

"Would you like to come in?" She asked, when Guy walked her home.

"I don't think I should," Guy told her.

"Why not?" she asked.

"Because I don't want you to feel sorry for me," he said.

She looked at him and smiled.

"Do you think I always gave you extra sprinkles because I felt sorry for you?" she asked.

Guy smiled.

"No," he said, "I suppose not."

"No, I didn't," she said, " I was trying to flirt with you because you are the most beautiful man I've ever seen."

"I can't promise you anything," he said.

"I know," she said.

"I don't even know what I will be doing this time tomorrow," he told her.

"I know," she said.

"I don't want to hurt you," he told her.

"I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself."

"Okay," Guy said.

Her apartment was dark.

She started to flip on the light.

"No," Guy said.

"Okay," she said, walking toward him and slipping her skirt down her legs.

He shrugged out of his t-shirt and threw it in a corner.

She took him by the hand and led him toward her bedroom.

In the darkness, he could only see the silhouette of her body.

He reached out and pulled her to him.

She tasted like mint and chocolate.

She smelled like fresh cut lemons.

She pulled away and walked to the bed, removing her shirt.

Guy just stood and watched.

If this was the last time he saw a beautiful naked woman, he wanted to enjoy every second of it.

"What are you waiting for?" she asked.

Guy undressed and joined her on the bed.

He moved close to her and took her in his arms.

"Take your time," she whispered into his ear.

"I intend to," he said.

Chapter 5

Destiny's Hand

Guy didn't get to the studio until late the next day.

"You got a message from some doctor," Jonny told him.

"What?"

Guy looked at his cell phone.

He had turned it off the night before and forgotten to turn it back on.

He quickly dialed the doctor's office.

"Thank goodness," his nurse said, "We have been trying to reach you. We have a cornea for you."

"That was fast," he said.

"Sometimes it works that way. You need to get to the hospital as soon as possible."

"Mr. Berryman?" the stranger asked.

"Yes?" Guy sat up in his hospital bed.

"I am from the transplant bank. May I come in?"

"Sure," Guy said.

He still had a patch over one eye.

"I have a request from the family of your donor. They would like to meet you."

"Is that the way it usually works?" he asked.

"You are under no obligation. They make the request. You either accept or not. It is completely up to you."

"Can I think about it?" Guy asked.

"Certainly," he said, "I will leave you my card."

"What do you think?" he asked Justine, when she came by with ice cream and flowers.

"How do you feel about it?" she asked.

"I'm not sure. I think I would just feel guilty."

"But you didn't ask for someone to die. That person would have died anyway."

"Yeah," he said, "You are right about that."

"I think you should do it," she told him.

"You are a wonderful person," he said, kissing her.

"You better get out of this bed soon," she said.

"Oh yeah....Why?" he asked.

"So I can get you back in mine," she teased.

Chapter 6

Destiny's Hand

Guy was pacing nervously in his hospital room.

The donor's family was coming to meet him in a few moments.

He had no idea what to say or what to do.

He had wanted Justine to stay, but she told him that wasn't appropriate.

He knew she was right but, he wished she had stayed anyway.

There was a slight knock on the door.

"Come in," he said, in a weak voice.

The man from the cornea bank came in followed by a man and woman.

"This is Mr. and Mrs. Daniels," he said.

"Hello," Guy said.

"Hello," the woman said.

"Thank you for meeting with us," Mr. Daniels said.

Guy didn't know what to say so he just nodded his head.

"Would you like to see a photo of our daughter?" Mrs. Daniels asked.

"Your daughter.....I didn't know it was your daughter," he said, "I'm so sorry."

"Thank you," she said, handing him a photo of a pretty young blonde woman.

"She was beautiful," Guy said, quietly.

"Yes, she was. But she never thought so. No matter how many times people told her that."

"If it's not too hard, could you tell me something about her?" Guy asked.

"We would love to," Mrs. Daniels said.

"She was very smart. And very sensitive. We brought you one of her favorite books...if you want it," she said.

"Don't push it on him," Mr.Daniels told her.

"I'm not," she said.

"I would love to see it," Guy told her.

She handed him a book of poetry.

"Yeats," he said, "I love his work."

Guy opened the book.

Some loose pages fell out and onto the bed.

He picked them up.

"Oh no...." he said.

They were his e-mails that he had written to the girl from the dating site.

Guy felt like he had been kicked in the stomach.

He couldn't stop the tears.

Mrs. Daniels hugged him tightly.

"It's alright," she said.

Chapter 7

Destiny's Hand

Guy and Justine stood in the cemetery in front of the girls grave.

"Her name was Cynthia," he said, "I never knew that."

"How did her parents take it when you told them the story?" Justine asked.

"I think it helped them," he said.

"And what about you?' she asked.

"I don't know," he said," I just don't know how to feel."

"Apparently the two of you were destined to be together in some form," Justine said.

"I guess so," Guy said.

"Will you be okay?" Justine asked.

Guy looked around.

He saw a butterfly with large yellow wings.

He saw clouds floating in the sky.

He saw how green the grass was.

He saw how beautiful Justine's smile was.

"I'll be fine," he said.

Stuck Here

Part 1

"How is he?" Jonny asked as he walked into the hospital room.

"He's doing OK, I guess," Teresa replied, shrugging her shoulders. "The doctors said he probably just fainted, but they admitted him anyway just in case."

"He hasn't woken up yet?"

"No, that's why I think there's something they're not telling us." Jonny looked at Chris' unconscious body. Even when he wasn't awake Chris looked worried.

"Some first date, huh?"

"Yeah, well, I think it'll be our only date," she replied.

"Why?"

"Because he's in love with...," she paused, looking at Jonny. She knew the name that would complete the sentence, but thought it would be respectful to Chris to not reveal it. "...someone else."

------------------------------------------

"Come on, stop crying," she told Chris. He thought it was a bit odd for a girl to tell him to stop crying, even if the girl was actually just himself. "Crying will not wash away how you feel."

"I can't do this. I can't be in love with Jonny."

"Why not?"

"Because it's too complicated," he replied. She sat down next to him.

"Is it?"

"Yes, it is."

"I don't think so," she said. "And I'm you, so you don't think so either."

"No, I do think it is... because it is."

"It's not complicated at all, Chris. Love is not a complicated thing. Love is simple and beautiful."

"This can't be happening."

"People make things complicated. Like you're making this complicated."

-----------------------------------------

"How do you know?"

"It was obvious. He couldn't stop talking about... that person," Teresa replied. "Aw, but you should have seen the look on his face when he did. He just... lit up."

"I'll bet."

"Hmm, do I detect a hint of jealousy?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"It's OK, best friends fall in love with each other all the time."

"Each other?"

"Hello, everyone," the doctor said as he walked in the room along with a nurse. He walked over to the end of the bed, and picked up the chart that was hanging there, while the nurse checked the IV."Hmm..."

"What is it?" Jonny asked.

"It seems that... well, right now we're not so sure what is wrong with him."

"Oh."

"But," he started, turning around to face Jonny, "I wouldn't worry just yet. His condition doesn't seem to be worsening, so-"

"Doctor," the nurse interrupted. "Come take a look at this." She was pointing to the brainwave monitor that Chris was hooked up to.

"Oh, my," the doctor said, observing the screen. "Delta waves..."

"What does that mean?" Jonny worriedly asked.

"Your friend is in a coma."

Stuck Here

Part 2

"Let me ask you something, Chris. Do you really think that you can make this all go away?"

"Yes," he lied. "All I have to do is stop loving Jonny."

"And you think you can do that."

"I know I can." There was no point in lying to himself, but he did it anyway. It made him feel a tiny bit better.

"No, Chris, you can't." Her tone was very serious, now. Almost as if she was becoming angry. "You're in love with Jonny, and that's all there is to it."

"I don't want to be."

"No one said you wanted to be! Anyone can long to be in love, but no one gets to choose who they end up loving. That's just the way life is."

"But why Jonny?" he asked.

"Because he is so kind and sweet to you. You're a huge pain in the ass ninety-five percent of the time, and it's a wonder that you have friends at all."

"Gee, thanks for the compliment."

"I'm just saying what you think," she said. "Jonny's always been the best friend you've ever had, and you know he'd take care of you in a heartbeat if he had to."

"He would, wouldn't he?"

"Yeah. And you think you don't deserve that, which makes you love him even more. The fact that he can see past your many annoying qualities and appreciate whatever small portion of you is actually good is astounding."

"I'm really hard on myself, huh?"

"It's just how you feel. You dislike yourself, and you love Jonny."

"Yeah, I do."

----------------------------------------

Jonny was sitting alone in the hospital room with Chris. Chris had been in a coma for a day now, and Jonny had been with him the entire time. Teresa left shortly after Jonny arrived, though she did call frequently throughout the day to check up on Chris' condition.

'I wonder what he's thinking,' Jonny thought to himself. 'Can people even think when they're in comas? Maybe I should ask that doctor...'

Almost as if someone had heard his thoughts, the doctor walked into the room. He did as he had the previous day; walked in- this time silently- and checked the chart.

"Excuse me," Jonny said, startling the doctor.

"Oh, I didn't see you there," he laughed. "Gave me a fright. Whew."

"Sorry. Um, I was just wondering... can people think when they're in a coma?"

"I would say yes. People say that coma patients are basically aware of their surroundings, but they can't respond. You know what I mean?"

"So, Chris can hear us?"

"I like to think so. And who knows? Maybe if you talk to him, it'll help him get out of it quicker." Jonny moved his seat over by Chris' bed. He leaned forward.

"Hey, Chris. So... you're in a coma." Jonny felt very awkward. It was weird just talking to someone who couldn't answer back, and he felt that the doctor's presence only made it weirder. "You should, you know, stop that."

-----------------------------------------

"Do you hear that?" she asked. Chris looked up.

"Is that Jonny?"

"He's talking to you."

"Where am I? Besides here, of course. I mean, where am I in real life?" he asked.

"The hospital. You're in a coma."

"A coma?... How? Why?"

"You did this to yourself. Remember how you're making this whole thing more complicated than it needs to be?"

"Well, what am I supposed to do?"

"Accept how you feel," she said. "Be okay with the fact that you're in love. It's a wonderful feeling, you know."

"I suppose. But... Jonny? It just seems impossible."

"It's not. Until you learn that, you're stuck here."

Secret's, Lies & Lust XV

"Christopher Martin, can you tell us what happened when you arrived at your ex-wife's house, right from when you first got there!" The policeman asked. Chris at still staring at him. "Please, sir!" The policeman said, his eyes staring back at Chris.

"Well, I arrived to see Gwyneth!" Chris replied.

"And when she wasn't there?" The policeman said, awaiting an answer.

"I stayed with Guy!" Chris said, scratching his head.

"And then someone else arrived, didn't they?" The policeman said, sitting back in his chair.

"Yes, Marcus!" Chris said, still scratching his head.

"Marcus who?"

"I don't know his second name!" Chris snapped.

"You thought that Marcus was going to marry Gwyneth didn't you and you punched him didn't you, and then Gwyneth arrived and then Guy told you that he was marrying your ex-wife! You couldn't take it and punched Guy, fatally injuring him!" The policeman exclaimed, standing up.

"I barely hit him!" Chris said, biting his lip, trying not to be intimidated.

"You barely hit him, did you? Well, that's why he has internal bleeding and on a life-support machine!" The policeman replied, walking around the table towards Chris.

"You hit your own friend, a friend you have known for years for getting with your ex-wife! Well, you sicken me, sir!" The policeman said, walking back round to his chair. "Interview suspended at 16:42.

"Apple I'm so happy to see you!" Guy said, his face lighting up as Will entered the room with Apple. "Guy, are you not very well?" Apple asked, sitting at the side of his bed.

"I'm not too good but I will get better, I promise you!" Guy smiled, brushing his fingers through the little girl's hair.

"I Can't wait to be a bridesmaid at your's and mummy's wedding!" Apple said. At this point, Gwyneth ran out of the room in a flood of tears. Will quickly followed her.

"Is mummy, Okay?" Apple asked.

"She'll be fine!" Guy smiled.

"I can't take this anymore, Will, I can't take it! Guy could die at anytime!" Gwyneth said, falling into Will's arms. Will hugged her.

"It's going to be alright" Will said. Gwyneth smiled. So did Will. Will moved in to kiss Gwyneth.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Gwyneth asked, pushing Will away.

"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry!" Will said, trying to convince her.

"My fiance is dying and you are hitting on me! Get away from me, you creep!" Gwyneth demanded. Gwyneth ran back into Guy's room, leaving Will in the hospital corridor.

Secret's, Lies & Lust XVI

"So you really want to be a bridesmaid, huh?" Guy asked, putting his head up.

"Yep!" Apple replied, smiling with her little girl smile that made Guy feel so much better.

Gwyneth entered the room, still crying but trying to control herself.

"Gwyneth, I've had an idea!" Guy said, looking at the woman.

"Yes?" Gwyneth asked, not looking at Guy.

"I want to get married!" Guy said.

"Yes, we are next week!" Gwyneth grinned.

"But what if..." Guy looked at Apple, thinking and then continued, "What If I'm not well enough to come out of Hospital? Do you think we can get married here?"

"Here? What a great idea!" Gwyneth said, lighting up. "Are you serious?"

"I sure am!" Guy said, winking

"I'll see what I can do!" Gwyneth said, reaching for her phone as he walked out the door.

Guy began to groan.

"Guy are you alright?" Apple asked.

"Yeah I'm al-" Guy groaned again, clutching his chest.

"Guy!" Apple exclaimed, running out of the room. "Mummy!!! Mummy!"

Gwyneth was gone. A nurse ran up to her. "What's the matter?" The nurse asked.

"My daddy needs help!" Apple exclaimed, holding the nurse's hand as they ran back into Guy's room. The nurse servayed Guy, forced a smile and then asked Apple to leave the room.

"Really? Tommorow? That's great, Guy will be so happy! Thank you very much!" Gwyneth said, jumping up in the air like a school girl. She began to run back to Guy's room only to met by her daughter crying outside. "Apple, my my, what's happened?" Gwyneth asked. Apple just looked at her mother and then looked away. Gwyneth gulped as she entered Guy's room.

"Excuse me, can you just leave the room for a bit, please?" Asked the Nurse.

"Why?" Gwyneth exclaimed.

"Because, because, we are..."

Gwyneth cut in. "Is he dead?"

"I'm sorry" The nurse replied as Gwyneth fell to her knees, crying.

"Mr Martin!" A policeman said as he opened Chris' cell.

"Yes?" Chris replied, looking up at the man.

"Mr Berryman has died, you are now on a murder charge!"

PART FOUR

"Well, Chris, I'm married! How's little Moses?" Asked Jonny, talking to Chris on the phone while he was in bed with his new wife, Anna.

"Will you put that bloody phone down?" Anna said, grabbing Jonny's phone and throwing it on the floor.

"What did you do that for?" Jonny asked.

"Because I want sex, Jonny. Can you give me that?" Anna asked.

"Of Course I can!" Jonny said, moving closer to Anna.

"What a great wedding night!" Jonny said, putting his coat on and walking towards the front door.

"Where do you think you are going?" Anna asked, staring at her husband.

"I'm off to The Bakery, our studio, to work on new songs!" Jonny said, looking back to his wife and smiling.

"Oh no you not! You are going to help clean up this place, it's a tip!" Anna demanded.

"I will do later!" Jonny said, winking and opening the door.

"Get back here Jonny Buckland!" Anna shouted, picking up a picture and throwing it at Jonny. "Yes, you walk back here and get on with making this bloody house presentable, We've got an after-wedding party tonight! And then we are going on our honeymoon!"

"Honeymoon?" Jonny asked, wiping shards of glass from his hair.

"Yes, you've got us a honeymoon, havn't you?" Anna asked, staring into Jonny's eyes.

"Yes, of course I have" Jonny said, uneasily, walking towards her wife.

"So, where are we going?" Anna asked, moving in and putting her arms around her husband.

"It's...it's a surprise!" Jonny replied.

Violent Waters

Chapter 4

The next morning, I woke up in a cold sweat, gasping for air. I had the same dream nearly every night. Eddie would find me, wherever I was, and throw me down on the nearest hard surface. I would fight, scream, and do anything to get away from him. Eventually I would, but when I tried to get back to my friends and family, I was invisible to them. Whenever I tried to touch them or beg them to help me, it was as if I didn’t exist; my hand would go right through them. And then I would wake up in a state of panic, completely unable to continue sleeping.

But today I was lucky. It was already seven in the morning, so I didn’t have to worry about going back to sleep.

With a groan, I realized that today was Friday, which meant I would have to see Will’s cousin in a few hours. I went about my morning routine in a daze; pouring cereal I wouldn’t eat, then taking a shower that lasted for half an hour. I also took a moment to stare at myself in the mirror; cringing at how skinny I looked. Pretty soon I would have to start getting new clothes, or it would be obvious to everyone how much weight I’d lost.

“So,” said Henry cheerfully. “How are you today?” I’d been sitting in his office for five seconds, and I already felt like throwing up.

I shrugged and took the dolphin paperweight off of his desk. “Fine.”

“You look pale.”

“I’m a bit tired, I guess. I haven’t been getting much sleep lately.” I turned the dolphin over in my hands, something I’d done since the first day.

“Is it the nightmare? Did you have it again last night?”

“Maybe.”

“Well, until you deal with the issues weighing you down, you’ll probably keep having the dream. I don’t want to give you any sedatives just yet, however...I don’t think...”

“Okay, okay!” I interrupted. “I get it, man. No sedatives.”

“Because it wouldn’t help,” he said, peering carefully at me. “Drugs won’t do anything for you.” I nearly dropped the figurine as I snapped my head up to look at him. We stared at each other for a few full seconds, the only noise in the room coming from the clock.

“Are you accusing me of something?” I asked quietly.

“No. I’m just telling you that people who try to use that kind of method to deal with their problems won’t end up fixing anything. I do have to warn you...if you become a danger to yourself or anyone else, I have the right to inform the police.” I stared at Henry long and hard, and with every heart beat, my spite for him grew. He was judging me and I hated him for it.

“Thanks for the warning.”

“You’re quite welcome. Now, what shall we talk about?”

“Look, Henry...” I said, wanting to change the subject. “When is all of this going to go away? When do I, you know...get back to normal?”

He sighed and took off his glasses to clean them on his shirt. “When you learn to accept what happened to you.”

“How?” I hissed.

“It’s up to you, but talking about it is a good start.”

“With you?”

He shrugged. “With anyone.”
