Being a Radiohead fan myself, I don't like some other Radiohead fans just because they act like they're the smartest in the universe or something like that.

 

If the point of making this thread was to say that Radiohead fans are shit, well, you're wasting your time. There are shit fans of all kinds of bands.

 

If you really do want to try listening to Radiohead, though, I would recommend doing that not because you want to prove something but because you are open-minded and feel like discovering new music.

 

In that case I COULD help you, telling you my own experience. When I first heard a Radiohead song I didn't like it at all, but I decided to give them another chance. I downloaded In Rainbows and OK Computer. Still nothing. After listening to The Bends, though, I started to think that they're not bad after all... so after some time I realised that I really like The Bends. After listening again to In Rainbows, I liked it more too, however, it took me a few months to appreciate OK Computer, but it was worth it! Until now I listened to all of their albums (I listened to Kid A for the first time a week ago) and I like all of them more by each listen.

I'd just like to say it isn't Radiohead that's pretentious, it's the fans. Don't let them dissuade you.

 

But if you genuinely dislike the music, don't bother listening :shrug:

I always listen to their songs every morning after waking up from sleep, at first i thought their music is just too 'weird', but in each day their music started to grow on me and now i can't stop listening to them on regular basis. Just like others said, they're really hard to get into.

why should anyone try to get anyone into anything? o_O

all you can do is recommend certain music to certain people, but persuading somebody with something like 'they're just so damn good!' is pointless since you're not gonna change your taste in music because of these words.

 

as for me, falling into Radiohead was fast and painless =] one day i tried Kid A (still my favourite album) and it just got me, it felt better than any music had made me feel before.

I listened to OK computer aloty of times when I bought it and thought. OVERATED.But I got in Rainbows, like the songs. Then one day me and my brother were in the car and he put it in and Im in the back and the music, Panaroid Android just took me away. And then i started to realise the hype around them. They're a good band.

well, you either like their music or you dont, i can see why people dislike them and/or their music, with the lack of upbeat, happy music in general terms and thom yorke's acquired taste singing voice. i remember before listening to radiohead properly i would think of them as a band that had been around for a while, and they made weird, sad music, too hard for me to get into. heard street spirit and just at similar times on the tv and thought 'hey, i might have to listen to these tracks again'. sure enough i liked them after a few listens, and proceeded to get the bends.

 

to be honest i dont really know why they are so amazing to me personally....baffling question. firstly i guess i just 'get' yorke's voice, i mean i like the way he can put across different emotions in his voice. i liked that contrast between the pretty falsetto and the lines delivered in a 'lazy snarl'. i liked the songs, the melodies, the lyrics. i just remember putting on one of their cd's and being totally awash with awe and happiness from these various songs. i just felt a connection with the songs.

I always liked Radiohead's music, what took me some time was to get Yorke's voice. I watched their live videos (glastonbury) and got into them. One month later and bought most of their stuff and became my favorite band. If you want to discover new music, then try radiohead, but like most good music, take some time, it's not like one of those catchy shitty pop songs on the top of the billboard lists. But if you don't like them it's ok. Music is just a matter of personal opinion.

It's a simple as this: Radiohead is an acquired taste. What you're asking of us is like asking us to try to convince a child who hates broccoli to suddenly like it just because we say so. It doesn't work that way. Not everyone will like the band, for obvious reasons. But that gives you no right to go around saying they suck. That's your opinion, and no one gives a shit what you have to say about a band you don't like.

 

If you're serious about trying to get into them, get an early album like The Bends or OK Computer and listen to it with an open mind. Don't get hung up on the personality of Thom Yorke. I hate his guts, but I love his music. Listen to the music and give it a chance. It took me about a year to actually appreciate and like the music.
