7. "Your Light is spent" by Final Fantasy from Has a Good Home

That is not a tropical guitar, it's a violin! :D

8. "Summertime Clothes" by Animal Collective from Merriweather Post Pavillion

9. "Charlotte Mittnatch (The Fabulous Destinity of...)" by DeVotchKa from How It Ends.

I love this one, very emotional as you said.

10. "El Presente" by Julieta Venegas from MTV Unplugged

11. "Start Wearing Purple" by Gogol Bordello from Gypsy Punks: Underworld dog strike

They're so funny and energic.

12. "The Shrew" by Beirut from March Of The Zapotec.

13. "The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!" by Sufjen Stevens from Come On! Feel the Illinoise!

I d/loaded this last night...but didn't play it until just now...and had forgotten who it belonged too...

Just had it on in the background now whilst I was busy doing something else...and then thought - hey, I know this track..I'm sure that's Hey Rosetta! and had to go thru my library to find out which song it was...then Grizzly Bear came on and I recognised that one too :)

..then I had to trawl thru the thread to find out whose tape it was...

..so really I've been listening to it blind, not knowing what's on it. Been a good listen while I'm waiting for my mix to come thru :D I don't feel so left out now :P

It's great mix, lots of different stuff on it :D I like Andrew Bird - will have to discover more..so..thanks :)

So, I received my mix a few days ago but haven’t been able to listen to it. Apologies to whoever has been waiting to hear from me! Here goes:

Track 1 – I thought I recognised it from the intro, but actually I don’t know who it is. Maybe I’ve just heard it on the radio or something. A nice opener, up-tempo and the guy has a nice voice; I think this bodes well for the rest of the album.

Track 2 – Another new sound for me – a reminder that I should listen to stuff other than Coldplay :P I really like this: lots of interesting sounds and lyrics.

Track 3 – I know I’m going to kick myself when I find out who this is because I recognise the voice! It’s another up-tempo rock track, inoffensive enough, but doesn’t really do anything for me.

Track 4 – The music is good in this one and the guy sounds like an interesting performer, but lyrically it’s weak. He keeps singing the same thing over and over again. My least favourite so far – sorry!

Track 5 – Ooh, a big change here! It’s a very mellow Razorlight track and I love it, can’t remember the title right now...

Track 6 – So it seems we’re in the mellow section of our mix. This is lovely. Again, it sounds vaguely familiar. Maybe I’ve heard it in a movie???

Track 7 – Not got a clue who this is, but definitely want to hear more. Sweet lyrics, up-tempo with really nice strings, this will get played A LOT in my car!

Track 8 – Fairly sure this is Franz Ferdinand, but I don’t know the song. I only have one of their albums, but I like this so I guess I need to explore them further...

Track 9 – Weird intro, lots of strange sounds then a guy starts singing... to be honest I was enjoying more before he started. The kind of track that really sticks in your head for the right reasons, but a voice that irritates. A very short track too.

Track 10 – Kings of Leon, right? I don’t own a thing my them (cast your eye of shame on me now people). Kind of like Franz Ferdinand, they’re one of those bands where I like what I hear, I just never got round to buying an album... maybe this is a sign!

Track 11 – Ok, I never got The Smiths (cue more horrified looks from the crowd). I’m guessing this is Morrisey on his own? I’ve liked some of the recent stuff of his that I heard on the radio, but just as I was getting in to this one, it stopped!

Track 12 – Don’t know this one but I instantly LOVE it! Great rock track that builds and builds and I love the lyrics. I like storytellers and this guy paints a picture really well. My fave on the first listen.

Track 13 – I know this one too, but again can’t think who it is. A lovely track to finish with – a quiet opening before it builds and soars. Great strings again, and a lovely trumpet at the end. A perfect end to the mix.

On the whole, I really enjoyed this mix. It was great to hear so much unfamiliar stuff as well as tracks by bands I know off. You might want to think about including a few more female artists in your collection, but I could tell you put a lot of thought in to the music you included and the track listing. I’m looking forward to find out more about a lot of the songs on here and recommend everyone else give it a listen.

Thank you!

That one was mine. :)

1. White Lies - "Death"

2. Julian Plenti - "Only If You Run" His whole CD is really good, you should check it out.

3. Airborne Toxic Event - "Wishing Well"

4. Late Of The Pier - "Heartbeat" "Pineapple pieces in brine fucking around with your mind!" How can you call that lyrically weak? :P

5. Razorlight - "60 Thompson"

6. Band Of Horses - "No Ones Gonna Love You"

7. Ra Ra Riot - "Can You Tell"

8. Franz Ferdinand - "Words So Leisured" You should definately get into them if you want, they're amazing.

9. Late Of The Pier - "Random Firl" I think the thing I like most about this band is their funky intros and outros, although I don't mind the lyrics on this one.

10. Kings Of Leon - "Manhattan" You're right.

11. The Smiths - "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want"

12. Airborne Toxic Event - "Sometime Around Midnight"

You're welcome :D

I wish I can review The Escapist's tape.

I would love you too. The more reviews everyone mixtapes get the better!

^The problem is downloading the tape will take ten years:lol:

i know what you mean. I think at the moment i will just get a few and see how i go. I still haven't got my own mixtape yet.

Track 1: Some guitar strumming with a male voice over the top. Drums then kick in. Pretty catchy, straight-forward rock tune. Not bad at all.

Track 2: I like this. Poppy and chilled. Nice guitar work.

Track 3: Is that Portuguese? This is really cool, again rather chilled. I like the drumming. Very different feel to the first two songs. Best track so far.

Track 4: This starts off with some strings then moves into a guitar, followed by a male voice. His voice sounds familiar..Can't quite place it, though. Its quite nice, don't think its my cup of tea, though.

Track 5: Post-Punky guitar kicks this off. Voice sort of reminds me of the guy from Placebo. Is it Placebo?

Track 6: This I like. Nice combo of loud and the quieter parts. Quite a catchy chorus too. I like the effects on the guitar too.

Track 7: Another Electronica track with what sounds like electronic whistling in the back. I'm quite enjoying this. Very laid back vocals and feel to it the whole song.

Track 8: This begins with a guitar and hushed female vocals. Then drums kick in. Quite a poppy/ rock tune. Bit too straightforward for my taste, I'm afraid, but not a bad song by any means.

Track 9: This track starts with fast guitar strumming and drumming. Then slows down as the vocals begin. Pretty nice and gentle.

Track 10: Nice piano intro and vocals. I quite like this. Nice guitar work. Is it supposed to cut off like that, though?

Track 11: This starts with an acoustic guitar and drums. Good song this, catchy bassline and guitars.

Track 12: Kinda funky influenced rock on this. I like this. Lots of Talking Heads influence on this, which can only be a good thing. I like this one! Again it seemed to cut off suddenly, though. Is that supposed to happen?

Track 13: Nice song here, electronic beats and then some cool jazzy trumpet. Very easy on the ears this. My favourite after track 3.

Track 14: We now have a change of mood. Slightly more upbeat and energetic. Quite good, but I'm not really keen on the chorus part :/

Track 15: Back to some electronica. Not too keen on this, I'm afraid. Its not bad, but doesn't really catch my attention, though :/

Track 16: I like the bass on this a lot. Very groovy, dancey electronica and a cool way to end a mixtape. I like this a lot.

----------------------------------------------------------

I would like to thank my mixtape partner for the effort he/she put into it. I really enjoyed some of the tracks on here, particulary tracks 3, 7, 11, 12, 13 and16. Thank you :)

:)Here's my fast review...

Track 1 : I love this one. Kinda tropical, Relaxing and nice. His voice is very enjoyable.

Track 2 : Nice Ballad, it's nice to hear a man and a woman singing together.

Track 3 : Another Ballad, another girl. Not my cup of coffee

Track 4 : I like this Ballad. This one is country-ish, not bad. Reminds me of a lot of things...

Track 5 : Haha this got very popish haha. A girl singing with a electro-pop background. Decent.

Track 6 : Nice Rythm and melody.

Track 7 : Nice vocals and violin! And it's live!

Track 8 : I like this one, slow melody. I would love a bit more action, tho.

Track 9 : Nice guitar and overall a good and charming song.

Track 10 : A girl with a charming voice, I like the background.

Track 11 : Hahaha loads of girls in this mixtape, that's nice actually.

Track 12 : There is no Track 12 :uhoh:

Track 13 : Pum! Pum! I find this familiar but I don't know... It's a nice song :D

Track 14 : Nice ending, pleasant.

Overall, I'm not really into that music. But that's the point, listen to new songs and music you're not used :D

It was nice and enjoyable, but I would liked it to be a bit more variated and with more action

I think this was a girl... but who knows! :shy:

that was mine.

i guess i was a bit too depressed when i made it. although i deliberately put mainly slow and quiet songs on it to focus a bit more on the lyrics. i'm sorry you didn't like it too much. :(

#1 Paul Tiernan - "How To Say Goodbye"

it's from the "nick and norah's infinite playlist" soundtrack. i instantly fell for this song because of the heartfelt lyrics and i have a thing for songs about wanting to go away, having to say goodbye and missing someone. :laugh3:

#2 OneRepublic & Sara Bareilles - "Come Home"

i'm no big fan of onerepublic, but this is the only song i really love for the same reasons as song #1. (i get lost in the beauty of everything i see/ the world ain't half as bad as they paint it to be/ if all the sons, if all the daughters would stop to take it in/ well, then hopefully the hate subsides and the love can begin)

#3 Missy Higgins - "Where I Stood"

i might just repeat myself. :laugh3:

#4 Stuart Murdoch - "Another Saturday"

i found this song on a compilation benefit album and thought it was amazing.

#5 Au Revoir Simone - "Stars"

what i like about them is their lo-fi sound and their lovley lyrics. (you make me wanna measure stars in the backyard with a calculator and a ruler, baby/ i found a letter that describes how the moonlight will lead me to a distant place that you will be)

#6 Bright Eyes - "Big Old House"

bright eyes has to be put on every mixtape, in my opinion. :nice: bright eyes/conor oberst songs are like... short stories, like books. this song always makes me think of a road trip for some reason.

#7 Brooke Fraser - "Hymn"

by far my favourite song atm. i know it's pretty much christian music, but it doesn't matter much. it is sung so beautifully, i get goosebumps.

#8 Porcupine Tree - "Lazarus"

oh, porcupine tree. recently got into them. "lazarus" is one killer track. i remember i listened to this song on a bus ride back from france and i got all contemplative watching the trees rush by. :freak:

#9 José González - "Crosses"

can't remember how i got into josé gonzález. i probably heard "crosses" somewhere. anyway, it had to be part of the mixtape.

#10 Goldfrapp - "A&E"

i'm not sure if too many people on this board like goldfrapp, but i think they're an amazing band although "a&e" doesn't represent most of their other stuff. it's an outstanding track.

#11 Au Revoir Simone - "Where You Go"

au revoir simone again. i just wanted to spread the au revoir simone love, i suppose.

#12 Evan Rachel Wood - "Blackbird"

i wonder why there's no track 12 because i just checked and it's definitely part of the .rar file. :( however, i know. evan rachel wood grosses me out, but this cover song from the mvie "across the universe" grew on me.

#13 Conor Oberst - Cape Cañaveral

i love that kid too much to not put him on a mixtape. this song's probably my favourite off his self-titled record.

#14 Iron & Wine - "Flightless Bird, American Mouth"

iron & wine is simply genius. i have a great amount of faves, but "flightless bird", so i thought, could actually attract some new listeners, which is why it ended up on the tape.

well, as you can tell, this is a mixtape for your quiet hours. still think it's ace music and that everybody should check it out to broaden their musical horizon.

http://rapidshare.com/files/268565967/mixtape.zip.html

It was nice Grace :wacko:I gave it a second listen to pay attentionto the lyrics... Since english is not my native toungue It's just a bit difficult to get the lyrics :disappointed:

I'll Check Iron & Wine, José González and Porcupine Tree :nice:

Thanks! :shy:

OK, so here's my review!

1. Nice intro. Reminds a bit of Snow Patrol. I like it!

2. Haa, Gavin DeGraw. He's not my favourite, but he does have nice songs, and this is definately one of them.

3. Johnny Cash, God's gonna cut you down, LOVE IT LOVE IT!!

4. Kind of soft rock song, genre Keane, nice guitars, I like it.

5. Awesome song, this will stay on my iPod forever! I know the voice, but can't get a name on it... Could it be Bob Marley?

6. Instrumental guitar song, very nice, it's relaxing.

7. A little more jazzy, happy song, nice, suits this hot summer day in Belgium

8. Led Zeppelin, not my favourite artist, but he fitted very well in this mix

9. Very nice intro, I like the singers' voice, reminds me of Live. I like how the songs 'opens' and brings in extra tempo. Nice!

10. This has to be John Mayer? Very nice, relaxing song, I like his voice a lot. Intro reminds me of David Gray.

11. A little country, nice guitar, instrumental song

12. Pearl Jam. I don't like them very much, but this has to be one of their best songs, next to Jeremy. Good choice!

13. Tragically Hip, I guess? Nice one!

14. Don't like this one, I think it's The Raconteurs. Too much noise in it. And the singer shouldn't try to sing these high notes.

15. Don't know who this is, but I love it. Very nice song, and I like the voice of the singer. Nice little extras in it. Not complicated, just a nice song.

16. Aaaaah, The Times are A-changing from Bob Dylan. One of my favourites, I absolutely LOOOOOOVE this song, very good choice!!!

17. Nice instrumental song, very light and relaxing, nice piano, is it perhaps a soundtrack? I like it very much.

18. Very nice piano in the intro, good voice, a sad song but I like it very much. Will certainly keep this on my iPod! Excellent ending of a great mix!

To the one who made this mix: thanks a lot, I really liked it, discovered new songs and heard some of my favorites. Excellent mix!

1. I suspect I mixed it up. Indian Summer - Gavin DeGraw - I love this album and this is the best song that "fit" with the feel of the tape.

2. Castles in the Sand - The Philosopher Kings - A great Canadian talent, I love them to death.

3. God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash - It was between this and Hurt. I felt this was the better of the two for the tape.

4. Sleeping Sickness - City and Colour ft. Gordon Downie - I love love love Dallas Green. This has to be my favorite song by him.

5. Redemption Song - Chris Cornell - Close, it was a Bob Marley cover. I love this version because of Cornell's powerful vocals and awesome acoustic guitar. One of the best covers ever, I am sure Marley would have approved.

6. Tuolumne - Eddie Vedder - I fell in love with this album after seeing Into The Wild and the feel gave what I wanted for the tape. I see america when I hear this song.

7. Better Together - Jack Johnson - I love Jack Johnson, so calm relaxing and just pure bliss. It is a perfect summer song.

8. The Battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin - One of my favourite Zeppelin songs, the duet and mandolin make this song.

9. Born Losers - Matthew Good - This song is just pure brilliance. Its about his fight with Bipolar disorder. This has to be one of my favourite songs.

10. In Your Atmosphere - John Mayer - I have said and will always stand by it, John Mayer is one of the most talented musicians alive today. This song is just beautiful and so full of angst. It always pulls a string with me.

11. The Ballad of the Beconsfield Miners - Foo Fighters - A beautiful guitar duet by Dave Ghrol and... I foget her name. I just love this and how fast they go.

12. Betterman - Pearl Jam - Has to be my favourite Pearl Jam track. It was between this and Jeremy so glad I would have made a good choice.

13. New Orleans is Sinking - The Tragically Hip - I just love this song all around. The irony I guess.

14. Old Enough - The Racounters - I just love the instrumentals in this song. It proves Jack White can be a great musican. Sorry You didn't like it

15. 5 Days In May - Blue Rodeo - Another lost Canadian talent. They are our Dave Mathews band, only a bit more country. It was between this and another Blue Rodeo song, it was to depressing and not bluesy enough!

16. These Times They Are A-changing - Bob Dylan - No blues mixtape is complete without Bob Dylan. Easily one of the best Dylan songs. He was way ahead of his time.

17. Small Memory - Jon Hopkins - Short, sweet and simple. The third and final instrumental. Chosen for the next song actually, I felt it was a good mood changer.

18. Now Comes The Night - Rob Thomas - Has to be up there with Jhon Mayer for one of the greats alive today. I love this song, it is kind of depressing but I loved it as a closer.

I felt like putting a song at the end which would have been U2's Kite.

Glad you liked it. I was very nervous.

Alright, listened to mine earlier...

DIM THE LIGHTS...

Track UNO: interesting intro... the guy's voice was kinda ghostly (or creepy :P) in a way... i think this is the track I disliked off the whole thing... well not disliked it's just not something i would listen to

Track DOS: I recognized the intro and Her Voice is Beyond Her Age - Mew :P :laugh3: I just got this song like a few days ago, btw :P Beautiful song <3

Track QUATRO: AAHHHH!!!! sounds like a rattling snake at the beginning and then the guys voice kicks in a few seconds later we get the music going and i'm bopping my head to the beat!!!! Loved this one!!

Track CINCO: :D When You Were Young -- The Killers =

Track SIES: :D I have this song... it's uhh... by DMB.. isn't it The Best of What's Around...? Meh, it's a good 'un of course!!!

Track SIETE: :D Manhattan -- Kings of Leon  My friend, our music tastes are very similar :D

Track OCHO: I like the guitar... this was a nice track, really nice... i really liked this one... I found myself swaying back and forth ... "too many sad words make for sad, sad songs..." <3

Track NUEVE: Interesting intro... when the guy starts singing it sounds like that one guy on the Fray and i was like (DOI!) but the track itself was really enjoyable, it would build up and then come back down to the normal level, it was good :D

Track DIEZ: Oooohhhh..... drums start it, I was singing along to this one... yeah yeah yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many times can i break til i shatter?

Track ONZE: I got a RHC vibe from this one, at first i was like "MEH, whatever..." BUT THEN it would like slow down to the guitar and it would start up all upbeat AND I WAS LIKE:

Track DOCE: The sexy guitar starts it off :wink3: and I already know I'm gonna like this, sounds very romantic... spicy ;) And then the man starts singing in espanol and I die... OMG!!!!!! Beautiful song, the woman sounds like a gitana... after a while it gets a little more upbeat and i feel like dancing, but then i'd look like a dork :P THIS WAS MY FAVORITE TRACK!!!! I LOVED IT MUCHO and it was live so i liked that also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Sin dolor no te haces feliz..."

Overall, it was a pretty great mix, if i may say so myself. I really enjoyed it!!
