Really? I don't remember that at the concert I was at, except maybe 42 in a few parts.. But even then most of the piano and guitar was really being played. I remember distinctly that they were playing guitar, bass, and drums live during Life in Technicolour and I could clearly hear them.

I also was fairly sure they were doing the chants during VLV live as well.. I remember seeing them all singing into the mics during it?

the electric sitar intro on LiTii i definitely pre-recorded :)

apart from that you can clearly hear string sections that makes the song sound majestic, and obviously no one's playing it onstage.

i'm just curious has any media ever inquire this pre-recorded thing directly to the band? and what is the band's answer?

Jazz?

Jonny, I thought you were over that!

Ridiculous.

'tis. It's annoying since you can pick it out at times when the volume isn't that loud and the guys are pretending to put a lot of strain into it

Jazz?

Jonny, I thought you were over that!

Did Jonny really want to do Jazz? :laugh3:

Hm.

Well, they just changed over the time. They're trying all the new things, and there's not enough space for the old stuff. They want to be better than they were before, louder and more bombastic. They're at their exploding state right now.

You're right with most of your points, but it seems that you're showing them in a rather bad way. I say they are just more different now than they were during the parachtues/AROBTTH/X&Y-era. Chris seems more self-confident, not as scared and 'hiding-behind-the-piano'-ish as before, you know.

I think it will change with the next album. Maybe they're gonna leave the top of the mountain and start at it's foot again. I believe they are on the right way.

^I agree with you.

Although Prospekt, I think you have mentioned some really good points:thinking:

You haven't seen this? :shocked2:

I haven't seen that in ages!

I wonder if 'Deserter' will EVER see a release?

No one ever added on to the original list, which was the whole point of this thread.

T'was? Well you could have said. People have just been "I agree!" or listing counter-arguments to your points.

You haven't seen this? :shocked2:

Greatest video ever, haven't seen it in years. Thanks for reminding me it exists lol.

Lol, I kind of did in the first post.

Add on to the list you guys.

I guess I haven't watched enough live videos to state anything but from what I've seen they use pre-recorded tracks quite often, right?

If I ever attended a Coldplay concert I'd rather want to experience a CONCERT than pre-recorded tracks and hyperactive Chris. I'm not saying he has to stay still, but come on...

The only pre-recorded track on the Viva tour is LiT at the beginning, and of course the strings in Viva la Vida.

exactly I don't know when the beginning with LiT and strings in VLV became "quite often"

Yeah, and hte strings in VLV are played on a synth i believe!

Well if that's the case, great! Happy to know that.

I never attended their concert and probably haven't watched enough live videos. I based my beliefs mostly on what I've heard from other people because I'm also quite musically uneducated and I guess I couldn't say if something was pre-recorded or not.

Doesn't LiJ have backing too?

and possibly Lost?

Yeah, and hte strings in VLV are played on a synth i believe!

The strings on VLV are not played on a synth, they are played by an Italian violinist David Rossi. He and Coldplay have known each other a long time. There's an article about him on this site

I'm talking about in concert. I was only guessing. When i was at a show i was watching what Chris was doing and it seemed like he was playing a synth at the same rhythm as the strings, and there was no keyboard sound... so it was an educated guess.

It's not, that's why they had that TV (There was a name for it, but it escapes me at the moment) showing the violin being played.

Lol, I kind of did in the first post.

Oh. Fail.

okay for the pre-recorded debate, here are some obvious uses:

- Lost: the church organ sound and the drum samples, definitely not from regular drums

- 42: the sweeping string background sound after the 2nd verse

- Lovers in Japan: the main piano riff, Chris only "played" it in the beginning on live performances. who plays it afterwards?

- Viva La Vida : obvious enough

- Violet Hill: organ/synth background noise

- Strawberry Swing: there are two guitars playing. who plays the other one?

- Life in Technicolor ii: the whole sitar and organ part.

some uses, like on Viva La Vida, are forgivable since there's no way they'd bring an entire orchestra. and their using a video of them playing the strings on a monochrome tv was cute, but it gets old.

so why wont they use an additional player? i heard they wanna keep it just the four of them on stage, okay i understand that. but we're getting to the point where just the four of them wouldn't be able to bring the music they recorded on to the stage. the majestic theatrics help, of course, but for how long?
