Madonna's successful shows in Israel last week have paved the way for more major international artists to follow her lead, and now, Irish rock band U2 and Coldplay are expected to perform in the Holy Land next summer, according to Ynet news, an Israeli-based media source. Both groups are represented by the Live Nation events company, which represents most of the world's leading artists. The company's heads were amazed by the scope of sales to the Madonna concert – some 100,000 tickets were sold for two shows. This lead the company to realize that the Israeli public is hungry for concerts and is willing to pay for them.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Coldplay has already agreed to appear in Israel, and even planned on arriving this month, but due to a busy performance schedule, decided to postpone the trip. Barring any special surprises, Coldplay will perform in Israel some time between May and June, 2010.

U2, who appeared in Israel in 1997, is expected to put on another show in the Holy Land some time between June and September 2010. Shuki Weiss, who collaborates with Live Nation, said, "Live Nation was very impressed with the Israeli audience that swarmed to the Madonna and Depeche Mode concerts. The company now views Israel as an important market.

"The Israeli production is also pleased to learn what a warm and great crowd there is for international shows. We would love to report of future performances when the time comes."

Boy, they just keep on going don't they?

If I were in a band I'd be sick of playing the same songs for 2 years straight.

It's good for the fans that they tour so intensively and really play, well, everywhere.

But it would be good for themselves to clear their heads from time to time, take breaks and make time to record new stuff as well.

They even played The Netherlands 5 (!) times this tour. I mean, damn.

Wow!

The 'never-ending Viva La Vida Tour'!!!!

But it's great for Israelians and Palestinians :)

great to know they'll visit new places!

Agree ;) and places like those wow, it's a honor.

Oh Lore!!! Maybe they will announce something soon for you as well. Can I mention TAMPA TOO:kiss:

do you think they will have anything new to play next year??

I admire the energy they have

Shouldn't they take a long and well deserved holiday first?

I mean, they could record a new album first and then tour all over the world again. It has to get boring to do the same songs over and over again..

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that big bands start to visit countries like Israel, but the tour has been going on for so long. I don't think it's healthy for the guys to go on for like forever..

Plus they should tour Latin America first, they deserve it the most! *kicks Coldplay's butt for neglecting Latin America!*

Boring or not, I think it's a major oportunity for them to visit places not many artists had the chance to, ever... but of course, I also support the South America - Tampa cause!! <3

This news means one thing: there will be a South American leg for sure. Maybe in February and March and/or April, so then they can move through Israel for May... what a never-ending tour! Poor Chris and his voice! :)

Yes, on one hand it's cool to visit some new places, allow other fans to see them, but gosh they really should take a rest !

This I agree on.... They are making some BIG BUCKS playing the HOLYLAND.

Grats Israelis. Have fun.

If I were in a band I'd be sick of playing the same songs for 2 years straight.

Yeah I'm getting tired of it too and I don't have to play them every nigh. :dozey They should do a classics tour with songs like Bigger Stronger, Shiver, Animals, etc. :P

nice news...

waiting for Latin America tour too :(

Of course this is good news for the Israelis, but I just wish that th boys would stop touring after maybe earlier next year?

Keep on touring until May next year is pushing it a bit too far IMO.

My point exactly..

Maybe they will stop touring til april, so they could have a long rest, and then do a few gigs ?
