if you had told me a year ago that the top two splendour rumours would be Kanye and Coldplay i would've laughed at you. probably still will. but that seems to be case at the moment. the folks over at fasterlouder seem pretty convinced that both coldplay and kanye will be gracing our shores come late july. i hope they make it clear on the 13th when they announce the line up whether these mega acts will be doing sideshows or not cos thats the fact on which i'll decide if i'll make the trip up or not.

Ahh, I didn't realise the announcement was so close! So exciting!!!

Pulp would be awesome too, haha. And if Elbow/Arctic Monkeys/Coldplay are announced I'm there.

Also, Jamie... are you still doing the whole recording LatW thing? Juuust curious :)

yeah i will probably start again this Sunday with Sia. the LATW's in the last month or two have been pretty average. but the Sia one is worth keeping and they have Foals next week with Sufjan and Gaslight Anthem to follow. so it's a good time to start again

initially i had an issue with coldplay headlining because i didn't one mega huge band then the rest just being your regular indie faves. but with kanye on the line up too it might help the balance a little. at the moment im trying not to get too carried away. and just to bring everyone back down to earth. the band we all really wanted to see, arcade fire isn't coming.

To be completely honest, I've kind of forgotten about Arcade Fire. Of course I still want to see them, but with rumours of Coldplay, Kanye and especially (for me) Arctic Monkeys there's plenty enough there to keep me excited. I'm even excited about The Vaccines and The Kills, for god's sake :P

And I'm glad you're starting up again! The reason I asked was because Foals is coming up and, well, yeah, it's Foals

Edit: typed before I saw your post, Bryce :P It leaked??

EDIT AGAIN: I just remembered it's Friday.Wow.

The Middle East. Australian album of the year. Enough said.

Can anybody help me get my hands on this? Its not out in North America. :(

Listening to it now. Not overly impressed so far.

Ha, I posted that before I actually listened to it. I just finished my first run through. I thought it was good, hope it grows on me. Not as good as their EP but still a solid debut.

Haha, good luck I guess?

I have the album but have only got to listen to the first half of it. I'll try again tomorrow..

Easily my favourite Australian album of 2010:

If Crowded House can't be the best Australian group, then these guys deserve it. So many catchy pop/rock tunes, excellent musicianship and a first class songwriter. Seriously, these guys deserve the attention Powderfinger get. It's a shame the Hoodoos didn't really get much acclaim beyond the 90s. If you're a fan of Crowded House, Powderfinger, You Am I and The Easybeats, you are seriously depriving yourself of some great Australian rock music if you don't own an album by these guys.

I found it really picked up at Jesus Came To My Birthday Party.

And by the end of it I felt like crying, so I guess it's okay. Just have to get a little more familiar with it.

I agree, it's so sad. Probably going to be something I will want to listen to a few times over.

ok after a couple of listens

1. way way way too long. you can't have such a down beat vibe and expect people to stay interested for over an hour. just doesn't work. the album stopped going anywhere after about track 10 which is where it should've ended.

2. the album is really lacking in wow moments which the EP has plenty off.

3. Land of the Bloody Unknown remains the stand out track for me. but overall im a little disappointed. looking at about 6.5/10 at the moment. but it does seem like a grower so that number will probably go up.

I see where you're coming from there. I'm going to listen to it a couple more times before making my decision, but at the moment I'd agree that Land of the Bloody Unknown is a standout track. I quite like Mount Morgan, too (which is kind of ironic, because I really don't like the town of Mount Morgan, which is a little town not too far from my hometown :P)

Right now my highlights would be:

Jesus Came to my Birthday Party

Land of the Bloody Unknown

Months

Dan's Silverleaf.....I really like the kind of alt country vibe to this one.

Night Avenue Reverie.....I find this song just makes this whole album seem so sad. Such a beautiful and chilling painting is created through the lyrics and music of this song.

you seriously like jesus came to...fair enough. i think its by far the worst thing they've ever written. i've listened again and i find that a lot of the stuff is very "middle of the road" if you know what i mean, not quite here not quite there.

Too many ideas that seem to have promise but aren't given a chance to continue and flourish. Kind of like brainstorming.

I always come to this thread to lurk. Sparkadia is pretty good, getting The Middle East stuff now :wacky:

Tame Impala remind me of The Beatles and Deerhunter.

I like them.

personally i hear more of a Cream feel but yeah on this album they really had a Beatles vibe going.

listening to the Middle East album once more. one thing i must credit the band for and that is the fact that they've stayed true to their aussie roots. they could've easily made an album with an international appeal or geared more towards the north american market but instead they put on songs like land of the bloody unknown and sydney to newcastle that their aussie fans really connect with.
