Etiquette and manners while online?

Featured Replies

How do you feel about online etiquette?

Do you think it's perfectly fine to be rude and insulting to people on here, or should you be as polite on here as you are (or ought to be) in real life?

Edit: Oops, I was going to make a poll too...

can't you make a poll?

well answering you, i behave here as i behave in real life, i'm polite with people (even with people that may not deserve that).

remind you that as there are polite people, there are rude people in real life too.

I think you should just talk online the way you'd talk to someone in person. :nice:

one thing about the forum is that I usually skip "hello" unlike in real life... except I wish it was that way in real life.... If by manners you mean formality, etc... saying hello.... asking how someone is doing or about the situation.... I don't like to use that often on a forum....

but I value people's words equally on a forum as I do in real life. I'm not going to be more or less rude. How I act on a forum should reflect how I truly feel..... which is usually just random

By manners I mean being a nice person and not constantly insulting people.

I don't think I can make a poll now, because I have to check some box before I post the thread, and I forgot to do that...

I would agree with the be yourself statement :)

You shouldn't be untrue to who you are, someone will like you and your ways.

... unless you're a total bitch in real life and there's no hope in people liking you :P

Just like in real life, I only give respect to those who deserve it.

I think that you should just treat others the same way that you would in real life, but perhaps even pay more attention to what you say. I know that it is really easy to get miscommunication online because you can't tell by a person's tone.

YOU CAN'T SEE MY WORDS IN REAL LIFE TO TELL IF THEY R IN CAPS LOCK OR NOT.

I think I'm nicer online than I am in real life. Sure I've said rude things on here every now and then, but I'm not super friendly in real life... not that I'm mean, I'm just very reserved.

I bet kelsie is not that pervy in real life :P

I disagree. Not to be mean or anything, but I feel the point of an online forum is the opportunity to be more sincere than you typically would be in real life. My idea of forum etiquette is to initially treat everybody with respect, but never hesitate to say what's on your mind, especially if you're disagreeing with somebody. If I communicated online the way I do in real life, I'd never say anything remotely interesting.

I thought you wrote pink friends, not pink words.

I kept wondering why you said that
