Wanna hear Guy sing lead vocal?

Featured Replies

If you want to hear him, he's really easy to pick out singing backup on live performances of Speed of Sound in the early part of the X&Y tour- he was a little pitchy back then. (Sorry, but it was true... :( )

:laugh3:

(And, yes, I agree!)

+1 They're all singing in Snow Crystals but at some point, you can here Guy's low voice, espacially at the very end.

*nods*

and as I said i don't remember where he's doing backing vocals for Magne's A dot of Black in the Blue of your Bliss*..and if you don't have a clue of what I'm talking about head over to MM to his topic :D

* at least it really seems him compared with the voice in Snow Crystals

P.S. Paula love your sig :nice:

I think it's quite obvious that it's Guy singing on the track...and doesn't even sound that computerized to me. Just a bit of crazy echo or something.

The sound of the voice, the accent, everything:cool:

Apparatjik, the arty side project of Coldplay's Guy Berryman, A-ha's Magne Furuholmen and Mew's Jonas Bjerre have announced the release of their first stand-alone single.

Electric Eye, an ethereal track decidedly less prog than Mew, less pop than Coldplay and a bit more complex than A-ha, is released on November 30.

The group, which also includes sometime-A-ha producer Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, James Morrisson, Jason Mraz), recorded a track for the benefit CD Amazon Tribe in 2008, and have since then been allocating time to their project in between duties with their more well-known bands.

Snippets of video, audio and images of Apparatjik's work can be found on their slightly eccentric website, apparatjik.com, complete with nonsential graphs and in-studio banter. But a little pretentiousness has never hurt anyone right?

Paula also upload in streaming all the songs on the Apparatchick website. The link has been posted a few times here.

After NME, now it's Q!!!

Oh come on ladies, use your brains as well as your ears.

It's either Jonas, Magne, or Guy. (Or the fourth guy, but I don't know what his voice sounds like.)

Jonas sounds like no one else on earth that I know of. If it was just him, we'd all know in a second. It was certainly him singing on Ferreting.

Magne sounds a little bit like Jonas but without any of the distinctive quirks from what I could find of live performances of him on youtube. I'd say his voice might be a little bit lower, too. So if you're having trouble figuring out if it was Jonas but aren't sure because it doesn't really sound like him, it might Magne.

Guy's singing voice is a fair bit lower than the other two. If you want to hear him, he's really easy to pick out singing backup on live performances of Speed of Sound in the early part of the X&Y tour- he was a little pitchy back then. (Sorry, but it was true... :( ) When I saw them live they had his mike turned up too loud so he was impossible to miss. I can say with some assurance, that if it was just Guy singing you'd notice it in a hurry. I don't think there would be too much doubt.

Now listen to what you're all saying. It sounds like Guy, but it doesn't. It sounds a lot like Magne, but his fans say it definitely isn't him. There are moments when you almost think it might be Jonas, but it couldn't just be him, you'd notice right away. So, where does that leave us?

LISTEN TO THE TRACK AGAIN. There has to be what? 1? 2? DOZEN vocal tracks mixed together there. Forget the computers- they're using that old fashioned trick common since the first moment Phil Specktor touched a mixing desk and layering vocal tracks together to give them a different sound. It's what gives it that eerie whooshing effect. Not to mention that Mew uses that technique all the time.

Do you think it just might be remotely possible they used those dozens of layers to blend all of their vocals together? :smug2:

I could be wrong and won't have a problem saying so if I am, but I don't think so.

Oh, and I can definitely pick out Jonas' and Guy's voices singing together on Snow Crystals.

Yes, this makes sense.

The song is very dense, there are a million layers, so it's highly possible that there could be multiple layers of vocal tracks.

Hey people, why don't you come over the proper Apparatjik's thread to discuss? :)

The main voice isn't Jonas at all, cos on the full edit of Electric Eye Jonas has a solo vocal bit, which is clearly just Jonas. On some bits there's almost a whispering echo ("Thru all the static" that bit) but it's not Jonas. It could be Magne maybe, or the vocal's been double tracked to give a little depth. There's definately some sort of effect on there. Towards the end with the guitars there's an almost choral bit, that's definatley more than one voice there.

The I can be soldier, I can be a humoniod bit is clearly one voice; & it ain't Jonas & it ain't Mags and imo it's a native English speaker... but that's just my opinion

Yah, that's what I tweeted them, that it was a layering of a couple different voices and then Jonas's voice in certain spots.

Apparatjik[/url]'s thread to discuss? :)

or... apparatchick.com :deal2:

^I love how many of the articles that mention the vocal debate always link back to this thread. It really is all starting go a bit meta, isn't it?

...Reminds me how much of a fishbowl this place can be... :uhoh:

Yeah, I love how they all link to this little ol' thread. Feels like I'm really in the middle of something, being a loyal (but relatively quiet) lover of Apparatjik ever since I joined the forum.

Anywho, I'm currently on holiday and my only Internet connection is from my phone, so I'm not in the best place to download any music files!!! Argh!!! I want to hear this new Apparatjik piece of magic so badly, but I'm gonna have to wait 2 more weeks.. DAMN IT!

Yes, on November 30th.

Just play around! You'll find lots of cool stuff :)

It was never specified. We'll have to find it.

We have an idea of one place it might be though....

Thanks for the YouTube link!

I'm pretty sure it's Guy on the vocals as well... however I've heard a few live recordings of Jonas which are very similar to the vocals in this song as well...

But the idea of the vocal layering makes a lot of sense. I can definitely hear the evidence on just a few more listens. Would be just like them, trying to trick us like that with suggestive Twitter messages. xD!

Yep, yep, yep :smug:
