Creator of my mixtape... please upload the mix again, but this time with there actually being tracks on it :dozey:

I have to download each song individually. Gonna take a while. Merrrr.

OMG, 13 was Arcade Fire!? That surprises me. You actually gave me a song of theirs that I rather liked. I've heard a few tracks by them that I didn't necessarily care for too much.

Also, I totally didn't think 10 was Interpol. Like I mentioned in the review, I don't know them that well, and what I've heard of them didn't sound anything like that.

Ahhh, so it WAS a side project for 5. Makes sense.

No wonder I liked 6 so much. I listened to his new album through a streaming link that Briggins had posted, and I loved it. :)

Thank you SO much, heartswarm.

you can call me Gail! you're welcome and i thank you for listening to my mix with open ears and mind!

for some reason, i find that the better Arcade Fire songs were mainly sung by Regine. I just love her voice, so heartfelt.

yes, track 10 was sort of an aberration. lol. just kidding. it was made for the six feet under soundtrack, i think, so that explains why it is a bit different from the usual.

zach condon was only a guest in the song. the only song i really love in alaska in winter's album, dance party in the balkans.

cheers for no. 6. he's really talented!

here's the link to the mixtape: http://sharebee.com/67409fcd

Though These Few Presidents is not a particular favorite of mine, promoting Why? is always welcomed (By Torpedo or Crohn's would have been my choice). I like the Close you eyes remix better but another good band to promote :) this goes the same for the xx and sunset rubdown, I like your taste in music.

My mixtape is also uploaded in individual songs...and I have never been luckier to have a 1 month premium user subscription to rapidshare :) ill be listening to mine soon

Downloading my last track right now. Thank you fast computer!

I'm so excited to listen to it.

First thing first: THANKS to the person who did my mix! Overall, a mix that smells like teen spirit!

1-Wooo it's begining well! A great intro with a solo of saxo and then it switch to a quite catchy song with a male singing and some girls doing backups ont the backgrounf. It has a 90's feeling and a 'teenage' spirit (not pejorativ) 'we can live anywhere'. It's a very refreshing tune and a great opener! Me like it!

2- Again, a catchy tune and again, a 'teenage' spirit to it! This a tune that could easily be on the soundtrack of a trendy TV show like 'skins' or sthg. A man is lead with a girl backing up at times. It's catchy and I totally can picture myself listening to this during the summer! Good track!

3- This one is different, but continues on youth path with a young guy singing. He must be a teenager but he has a good voice. Remind me of The Moldy Peaches...even if I know it's not it. I don't really like the melody though, the 'noise' made by the strings became irritating to me in the end...

4- XDDD The song starts with a guy saying 'fucking croissant'! As a french, well, it wasn't hard to understand and it makes me laugh! Didn't expect a track opening like that! Again, a young guy singing and a track that seems recorded in a garage with friends. Feels home made but it has a catchy guitar!

5- This one starts with some beeping noize then switch of to something more 'normal', good guitar and a catchy chorus. A guy is singing this one.

6- This one is weirdo! Drums and a keyboard (?) I guess with some ethereal voices in the background but not audible enough to understand what it's saying. Very experimental...Not really liking this one.

7- Back to catchy again (sorry, I use this word a lot, but I don't know a better word in english XD).A summer track and again its smells like teen spirit. Very enjoyable *w*

8- Changing of mood! A laid back (?) track, soft and soothing. Some nice guitar and a guy singing. Dunno why but the 'atmosphere' reminds me of some Jeff Buckley's songs. Like it.

9- A song that starts quietly and again I find it very soothing. I like the guy's voice singing. In the middle of the song, it become more edgy with some good guitar/bass riffs. It reminds of Daughtry.

10- Totally different track here. Some electroish tune with a girl singing ethearically in the background. I would say it a good 'ambiance' track but not a favorite.

11- A 'mature' guy is singing. Great rythm in this song, I like it. I don't know why but I picture the desert when I'm listing to this, it feels like a western put into a song.

12- A country/folky song! A simple quitar/voice to open this one then it speeds up and drums and others instruments came in. It could be played in a open ball in texas or Alabama! Make me want to dance with boots and a stetson on!

13- Totally different type of song! A girl is singing with a piano and strings. It's really beautiful and moving. Love it.

14- Back in Texas again with a rocky/country song. reminds me of the early days of Kings of Leon. Like it!

15- Wooo this song is interesting. Opened very gently and softly (great bass line on that part) and then suddenly switch of something catchy, really rock'n'roll (specially the ending XD). Love the drums on that one!

16- A 'feel good' song to wrap this mix. Again, I could totally picture this in a movie sountrack. It's the kind of track that are addicting and easy loveable (?)!

To conclude, I really enjoyed this mix! I don't know ANY of the artists on this and I'm quite impatient to discover who they are!! It's really been a total discovery from track to track and I want to thx again my mysterious partner! I enjoyed the ride! ^__^

That's mine! I'm glad you liked it. I tried to put a little variety in there while not straining away from a cohesive mix all at the same time.

Are we allowed to post the tracklist or do I have to wait or something?

Ok, reviewed mine.....

1 - Sounds like a Janet Jackson or Beyonce type; I know it's not either of them (especially seeing as I saw the artwork briefly) but it's that sort of stuff and not my cup of tea at all. I really don't like this r'n'b sound but gave it one complete listen to give it a chance, but then skipped it on subsequent listens. Don't like, sorry

2 - Interesting beginning, more my kind of thing. I spotted the artist name on this one which was interesting cos I've seen their name before but not heard the music, possibly been guilty of dismissing them as a teenage band. Quite like this one, a bit of a grower. Would be keen to hear more of this band :-)

3 - Nice start, interesting. Hmmmm strange vocal, kinda squeaky, almost shrieky in places. Not sure on this one, it's not bad, but not great either. The quirky girly vocal lets it down imo, nice lyrics tho.

4 - Another female vocal, more normal sounding voice now. Mellower than previous one. Nice track, lovely instrumentation in places, quite pleasant.

5 - This is nice, very electronic but soothing. Instrumental. Sounds Radiohead-like. Went on too long tho

6 - Another r'n'b type. Really cheesy. ("Oooh, shit, damn, so good, so good") is that really what they are singing? It's dreadful - sorry :-(

7 - Another strange vocal. Can't tell if they're singing in English or not. Sounds bit like Ellie Goulding (but it's not) Quite good, might be tempted to hear more.

8 - These two tracks go well together, nice flow. Is it the same artist? I'm not so keen on this one. Don't like that strange rap type bit. Or the music for that matter, sounds like a badly distorted Miike Snow track. :-\

9 - hahaha Two Weeks - Grizzly Bear (I've been guilty of slagging these off before now!) I actually quite like this track, I heard it on radio months and months ago but then heard the rest of the album and was disappointed (thought it dull & not worthy of all the hype) A welcome inclusion here tho. Gotta admit it's the best track on the mix so far.

10 - Another poppy, r'n'b type girl singer(s), sounds like the Sugarbabes or something similar. Is the swearing and the rap supposed to make them sound big n' clever. This is a throwaway song, pretty meaningless & immature. Sorry to be harsh :-(

11 - Rather poppy again, kinda like an old school American pretty boy, boy band in places. Strange track, can't figure out what genre to place this. Are they talking French there, at the end..?

12 - Strange instrumental, nice piano. Soothing...could do without the strange noise that sounds like someone dragging a bag of sand tho :-\

13 - Another r'n'b type. More 'shit' lyrics, sorry I couldn't help it...what's with the inclusion of that word in these songs..? ("She rockin' that shit right") I mean, wtf is that supposed to mean??? Sorry, I must be too old for this kind of stuff. And I instantly object to any song that uses the term 'shorty' in it....women ain't shorties!

14 - Rather like this one...hard-core dance-y stuff, fast paced. It needs some dirty guitars and a gravel-ey voice over the top of it tho.

15 - Another Janet Jackson type. tbh, bit boring.

16 - I'm sure I've heard this before, but can't think when/where/who...it's not bad. Rockier than some of the other tracks, which is a good thing. Another female vocal, but not so quirky and not so mainstream this time.

17 - This is more like it, lovely guitar background, sounds Brit-pop-like. Almost like a more intelligent Oasis track, the singer's from Manchester right? Kinda slow, but I get the feel this band might have some better songs up their sleeves. This is the most promising track so far.

18 - Hmmmmm this is pretty interesting too. Nice strings, very upbeat. Sexy voice. Funny lyrics about a big, fucking mountain ;) haha. Like this one.

19 - Quite good, the end of this tape is redeeming itself. Kinda rocky, nice strings. Deep vocal, kind of 80's-ish. This one (and #17) got my foot tapping.

20 - OMG! Is this some sort of Hindu/Reggae-rap-crossover or something....very bizarre! On the other hand the music is very good. Take the vocals off and this'd be perfect.

My god, this was loooong. Lots of female vocalists, some quite quirky sounding, some quite mainstream. The tape improved considerably towards the end, cos that was more my sort of thing. Sorry, if I was a bit vocal in my disdain for some of the tracks, but I ain't gonna lie to you and tell you it was awesome...I'm not disappointed, the whole point of this is to open yourself up to different artists and genres, which I've definately done here. If nothing else, it confirmed that I really don't like r'n'b music LOL. btw There was a lot of artist names and artworks that kept popping up but I tried really hard not put names to tracks and ended up overwriting all the info, setting everything to Mixtape 5 in the tag editor to get rid of it all.

Highlights were #17, #2, #18 & #19. And I've concluded that the person that made this is quite young, female and possibly might be French ;) Merci...

Okay, here is my review:

Track 1: It's "I'm Your Man" live by Michael Buble! I love him. I didn't have this track, so it was nice to hear. I love the intro at the beginning.

Track 2: Linkin Park...I believe it's "Pushing Me Away"? I've never heard them live, but I am a fan of theirs. I really enjoyed this track, anyways.

Track 3: This song was instrumental...it sounds like a Hans Zimmer composition. It reminded me of the score from The Holiday but maybe another artist's rendition? It was gorgeous, whatever it was.

Track 4: I liked this track too. It had a strong Latin beat and the drums were pounding away in the intro especially. The guitar melody was really catchy, and the song was upbeat and had me tapping my feet all the way through :)

Track 5: I don't recognize this band, but after listening to the track I think that whoever they are they're really good! I like the lead singer's voice. I thought that the lyrics were good as well.

Track 6: "If I could walk on water, I could tell you what's next..." The lyrics in this song were really beautiful  The singer had a really great voice and the melody was lovely. Nice song.

Track 7: The instrumentals in this song are gorgeous. I loved them. The singer has a nice voice, too. Good song in general, can't pinpoint who it is yet.

Track 8: It was pretty electronic and had a pulse pounding beat. There was singing at some parts. Quite catchy overall...sounds really familiar artist-wise but I'm not sure who the artist is.

Track 9: This song made me think of France. You know how in movies there is that distinct kind of sound that they play when scenes are in France? With accordian and such. Maybe it's just me. Anyway the entire song had an accordian melody, no vocals. It was nice and relaxing.

Track 10: This was a cover of Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop The Music". It was very jazzy so I'm going to guess that the artist is a jazz musician. Possibly a pianist, since there is a piano solo. Or maybe it was just someone in his band playing piano. But it was a slower version, and I like the original song to begin with :P So I liked it.

Track 11: I liked the tune in this song, but to be honest I couldn't really tell what the lyrics were half of the time because the vocalist was a little hard to understand :P

Track 12: Beautiful, beautiful song. The piano was absolutely gorgeous (I'm partial to piano parts because I play piano :)). I know I've heard it before...I think it's called "Boston" but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, I love it.

Track 13: JUST SAY YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhh I LOVE this song so much. Snow Patrol is my favourite (other than Coldplay, of course :D). This is already one of my favourite songs. I have to admit, I squealed when I heard it. It's nice to hear a favourite among the new stuff :)

Track 14: Beautiful Day - U2 remix. I'm not a huge U2 fan...mostly it's just that Bono annoys the hell out of me. Anyway this was a remix and I generally enjoy remixes, so this was decent. I can try to ignore my dislike for U2 :P

Okay, so in general the mix I received was really awesome. I feel like I must know the creator of it from somewhere on the forum because I felt as if they knew the type of music I like! Especially if that was Hans Zimmer on track 3 -- I am a huge fan. And I know I have posted that before in places. So a great big THANK YOU to the creator of my mix. It was ace. :nice:

sounds amazing, looking forward to download this one !

20 - OMG! Is this some sort of Hindu/Reggae-rap-crossover or something....very bizarre! On the other hand the music is very good. Take the vocals off and this'd be perfect.

I'm really interested in hearing this song.

Here is my review

Track 1 – An interesting start with opening eerie notes. The eerie synths play throughout giving you a sense of floating which is the perfect opening for the mixtape. The vocals are nothing special in my opinion though. Overall the song is not stellar but the position it is placed in is perfect. The sensation it gives you is perfect for the start. Put me in a chill mood setting the scene for a good build up.

Track 2 – Another chill track starting with a very simple guitar harmony which plays throughout the song, then a very emphasized piano comes in and plays in accompaniment with the guitar through the song. Makes me feel like I am listening to the Album Leaf until the vocals kick in, a peaceful simple voice without embellishment which is awesome in my view. Later nearing the end of the song some violins begin to reinforce the melody, perfect. A nice track to study too :)

Track 3 – This track starts very quickly with an acoustic and light vocals, a terrible transition for me IMO, kinda felt obnoxious in that it began so quickly. The light vocals and acoustic continue throughout later to be joined by a piano which continues through the entire song until the end where the vocals subside leaving just instrumentation. Very similar to previous tracks so well done in sticking to the theme :) Just not my favorite song since the melody is pretty simple and dry.

Track 4 – Another chill track with some long drawn out violins and an eventual saxophone that does not overdue it. This band definitely did well with this track in making the sax not sound over zealous. Other than the great sax, not much here for me IMO. It is by this point that I have noticed the low quality in all the songs so far, hopefully it will change but we will see.

Track 5 – Another very chill acoustic track. For me it is just another chill track with some sub-par vocals. There seems to be no variation in the tracks up to this point, all the tracks have the exact same structure though this one had a woodwind finish. Hoping that the tape will pick up or change eventually.

Track 6 – A gentle acoustic starts this one off as well, another relaxing track with light gentle vocals and an acoustic. Pulls in some keyboards later in the track but overall another very similar track. Relaxing and enjoyable but once again not my favorite.

Track 7 – An acoustic guitar starts this one off as well, lightly and alone it plays some gentle notes. The same structure with nothing more to report.

Track 8 – Starts with a welcome drum set, this one has a little more speed and some bounce to it. I have heard this one before, I believe it is Grizzly bear. In fact I know it is as the song progresses. Never too big a fan of anything other than two weeks for about…two weeks. Another peaceful sound with the high scaled vocals and keyboards. Then near the middle of the song a synth solo stands out and really adds some fun to this track. The first one on the mixtape that I am very fond of. Had a very enjoyable sound.

Track 9 – Light Grizzly bear style vocals and an acoustic guitar. Then some other keyboards come in, not much different from previous tracks.

Track 10 – This one had some very interesting keyboards and then violins in the background. Another peaceful opening, then you get hit in the fact with drums, vocals, and song picks up to a bpm slightly higher than the other chill tracks. Then it slows down ago and picks up accompaniment with the violins, trumpets, and keyboards. Really an amazing song due to the combination of violins and piano giving it a very emotional appeal.

Track 11 – This is a good track by Civil Twilight, it starts off very peacefully and then begins to jam out with a coldplay like sound, in fact the lead vocalist does parallel Chris Martin. A well placed and well appreciated track since it was harder than the previous tracks. This really is an excellent track.

Track 12 – A chill acoustic light vocals song, very similar to all the other ones described as such before it. Really nothing special for me at all, the kind of track that just starts and ends all of a sudden without knowing it.

Track 13 – Female vocals, the first time on the album by itself. This voice is the coarse and comforting type of voice like Eric McCarley. Just the vocals and an acoustic guitar. She is a refreshing vocalist at this point in the mixtape but still very similar and ununique.

Track 14 – This track has a swaying type of beat with a Chris Martin kind of voice, paired with an acoustic and drumset till the chorus where keyboards and strings come up. The chorus picks this song up. It gives it more melody and a sing a long quality in it since the chorus lyrics are rather simple and memorable. An enjoyable song overall.

Track 15 – This one has male vocals and an electric guitar though it is still light, it picks up an acoustic guitar near the chorus and then goes back to the electric riffing with the peaceful vocals. Another good song and with it, it seems that this mix is finally beginning to pick up. I am all for chill music but for me it was just too much too long.

Track 16 – This is another chill song in the beginning and really fits along with the pattern up to this point because though chill this one ranks with the last couple of track in terms of speed. A logical choice at this point in the mix. Has a sort of Mute Math sound to me. The drumline is pretty catchy in my opinion and over powers all the other instruments for most of the track. I do like this one as well.

Track 17 – Drums start and then very light vocals come in sounding a lot like múm. It has pretty bad quality in the track and does not really peak my interest until the end of the track where instrumentation takes off. The drums, vocals, acoustic guitar, and everything else just take off all at once. An enjoyable different tune with its fast beat yet chill disposition.

So overall, not my favorite mix for me personally as it just held onto the very light acoustic male vocal type tracks for too long. Also, the low quality of a lot of the songs was kinda a bother. Others may really enjoy this mixtape if they do enjoy that type of music for an extended period of time. Near the end it really gains steam and develops what I expected after a lot o relaxing songs. A good mix to fall asleep too (which is not in any way meant to be insulting, it is just very relaxing music). All of this is IMO and not meant to offend anyone :)

Track 1

Ahh I know this song! It’s from Snow Patrol - Final Straw. What a great song to start an album, woo :D I love the power that is build up during its whole length.

Track 2

Kings of Leon – Sex On Fire :charming: Already listened to it up and down through the radio, but doesn’t change anything from its AWESOMENESS. The fast beat brings me to a party mood!

Track 3

Oh a new song for me! It’s very calm and has this soothing male singing voice. That’s like, totally my music genre, yeah! And I hear violins, my favourite music instrument. Great, The song gets louder and louder to its end, crazy guitar riffs and the singer’s voice spazzes  Anyway, fabulous track!

Track 4

It’s 15 Steps, these beats you just can’t forget! Radiohead rules, and so does this song. *moves head to the beat”

Track 5

Interesting, sad song. Nice piano at the background and electronic beats, cool combination! The old male voice fits perfectly to the atmosphere that the song creates. Oh and now I can hear some synths, nice! There is a nice acoustic guitar riff, too. Very relaxing. This comes straight into my favourite music folder :P

Track 6

Holy shat this is one sexy song :stunned: “Do you wanna do me, do me…” is what I can hear, if my pathetic English isn’t completely fooling me  Anyway, that song is catchy, and I like catchy songs muha.

Track 7

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHH OMFG IT’S RAMMSTEIN!!! :dance::dance:

Ahem excuse my sudden moment of fangirliness :sweatdrop: I’m just totally in love with this song! By the way it’s called “Frühling In Paris” and it’s from the new album which you should totally buy.

Track 8

Another sad sounding song, with nice guitar/bass riffs, and the male singer has a nice voice… he reminds me of another singer, but I can’t remember who argh! The song ends in a big explosion of heavy bass and guitar and drums and finally finishes with a few soft guitar notes. Sweet.

Track 9

Wow I like this one a lot! The guitars are fabulous, nice riffs. And so many instruments! I guess some of them are also electronic, but who cares. I can understand everything the singer sings, which makes me happy hahaahha :P The song has a nice chorus, with a soft playing piano in the background. The singer’s voice gets louder and stronger to the end of the song, which creates a nice powerful atmosphere. And then the cool guitar riff comes again. I feel a catchy tune stuck in my head coming up :uhoh:

Track 10

A beautiful instrumental piano piece. I know this melody from somewhere, but is it from…!?

Can’t remember, crap. Anyway, sounds very dramatic and gets catchy in the middle, like there is sitting someone who wants to show his piano skills hehe.

Track 11

:stunned: OHMYGOD you mixtape maker, I’m forever greatful, you just send me a song I was looking for AGES. It’s “Michael Stipe with Coldplay - In The Sun”. What can I say, REM is awesome, Coldpay is awesome, these both combined singing together… *drools* The piano is beautiful, Micheals voice is so warm. Oh dear. I better stop before I say anything more cheesy.

So I have to say I like this mixtape VERY much, especially that there are so many of my favourite songs in it and also a few that I didn’t know :D And again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the “In The Sun” song, I’m listening to it for the 200 time now. :wacky:

:braces:

Glad you enjoyed it!

1. Chocolate - Snow Patrol

2. Sex On Fire - Kings of Leon

3. When Your Mind's Made Up - The Frames

4. 15 Step - Radiohead

5. Please Forgive Me - David Gray

6. In The Moonlight (Do Me) - Modern Family Season 1

7. Fruhling In Paris - Rammstein

8. Watch Over You - Alter Bridge

9. War Song - O.A.R.

10. Famous Last Words - Various Artists (My Chemical Romance cover)

11. In The Sun - Michael Stipe feat. Coldplay

I admit I did some research on you and figured out you liked ambient and alternative music mostly, so I geared my song choices with that in mind. I liked Chocolate's energy as an opener. I felt The Frames song might be good as it is ambient yet intense. I then wanted a quick change with 15 Step and Please Forgive Me, both very electronic and beat-infused. In The Moonlight was from one of my favorite comedy shows and I just couldn't pass it up. Not only is it hilarious and absurd, it's actually a damn catchy song!

When I saw you were German I figured Rammstein was a safe bet, I thought you'd appreciate a Native language song, and this one is my favorite by the band.

War Song was on the fence, I almost didn't include it. It's actually a story of a soldier going off to fight in Iraq, told from his point of view. In the end I figured you might like the guitar hook, I'm glad I left it in.

I'm not a MCR fan by a long shot, but I do love this song, and the piano version I thought helped ease the mixtape down. And In The Sun was just begging to be the finale, I figured you'd like the Chris Martin surprise. I'm glad you were looking for the song.

I had a lot of fun making this and I'm really glad you had such an open mind and really enjoyed the songs. :)

PS If you really enjoyed Track 6, check out the clip from the show with the music video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66TqUyjqM40]YouTube- Modern Family "In The Moonlight (Do Me)" Music Video[/ame]

Even better and funnier as a video :cool4:

I'm a 21 year old guy from England.

I'm really interested in hearing this song.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jywa9oK3ytU]YouTube- Asian Dub Foundation - New Way New Life[/ame]

Here's the review for my mixtape. I listened to it twice, and wrote about each song the second time I listened to it.

Also, about five of the tracks still had album artwork on it, and I deleted them quickly. I tried not to look at them, but I did recognize a couple of them.

Track 1 - Starts out with people talking in the background (it sounds like a tv show) and a synthy sound... then a piano starts playing. The singer has a deep voice, sounds a bit like Placebo. It seems to be a pretty dark song. But I like it. It seemed to end too soon before it got anywhere, though.

Track 2 - I don't really like the singer's voice. The song starts out pretty quiet with just a piano, and then suddenly becomes much louder... It's really not a bad song, the singer's voice will probably take some getting used to.

Track 3 - This song is a bit slower. It has strings in the background and an acoustic guitar. I like the guy's voice, though it sounds like he has an accent. The song picks up more after about a minute. Maybe a little boring, but I like it.

Track 4 - This is Snow Patrol, I think. I'm not really a big fan of them, but this song isn't bad. The chorus is pretty.

Track 5 - Another slower song that starts out with a piano. I like the vocal harmonizing. It's a nice song.

Track 6 - This one's more of an up-tempo song. I don't really like how the singer's voice is nearly shouting in the chorus. It's kind of a plain song, doesn't really stick out to me. I like the build up at the end though.

Track 7 - Ah, this is a great song. Into the Fire by Thirteen Senses. It was one of my favorite songs a year ago.

Track 8 - Sounds synthy at the beginning. I think this is a Keane song. It has a short french spoken part in the middle. It's a pretty good song, not amazing, but it's good. I like the latter-half of it best.

Track 9 - I like this one. I love the choir singing in the background during the chorus. It's a very uplifting song.

Track 10 - I hear someone talking in the background at the beginning, on a radio or something, and there's a piano. The singer's voice sounds familiar. There are violins playing in the background. I'm a sucker for any song that has strings in it. Great song, I like it.

Track 11 - I like this song a lot! The singer's voice is a bit shout-y, and it's a little repetitive. But the instrumentation is really good.

Track 12 - I know this one: On a Day Like This by Elbow. It's a very happy sounding song with lots of strings. I think it's one of the best songs on The Seldom Seen Kid.

Track 13 - This one is a female singer. I'm not a huge fan of female singers. This song is really catchy though, I like it.

Track 14 - I don't really like this singer's voice. It's hard to understand what he's saying. Overall, this song is a bit boring, not very remarkable.

Track 15 - Another female singer. Her voice sounds a bit country, which I don't really care for. It gets better as it goes along though. I like the violins and the horn (or whatever it is) in the background.

Track 16 - Sounds like Snow Patrol again. It's a little on the boring side. I'm just not a fan of Snow Patrol. It also has the words "I'm doing cartwheels" repeated through the song.

Track 17 - I like this song, but I think I'd get tired of it quickly. The singer's voice sounds similar to the singer of Snow Patrol.

I'm sorry I really suck at describing the songs, but I tried my best. :P

I think one thing this mixtape needed was more variety. The songs all seem pretty similar for the most part. But I did find a lot that I really like. :nice: I can't wait to find out who made my mixtape and what the track titles are!

Thanks to my mixtape maker and to Bryce for the hard work. :D

To conclude, I really enjoyed this mix! I don't know ANY of the artists on this and I'm quite impatient to discover who they are!! It's really been a total discovery from track to track and I want to thx again my mysterious partner! I enjoyed the ride! ^__^

Review!!

It's long (much like last year's) so I'll put it in spoilers to keep the page readable.

Written partially as I listened to it.

Track 1: Starts with a clapping beat, followed by some sliding electric guitar. A light male voice enters, soon followed by a woman’s voice. Both are soft and calm. I don’t know why I want to guess Black Eyed Peas, I’m probably way off, but it’s just a hunch. The beat changes at around 1:30, the bass line light and flowing in the background. Still just soft guitar echoing as the woman sings again. At about 2:20 the guitar changes into a round swirling pattern, not unlike Clocks’ piano. It’s helping the song build an atmosphere of a kind of relentless sorrow that’s just barely felt. A great pick for an opener, gets you into the mix without being overbearing.

Track 2: Instantly a dual acoustic guitar pattern followed by some more light background guitar. An electronics-infused voice comes in. Another light sorrow feel in this song, yet a major chord chorus brings it into hopeful feelings before falling back into the minored verse patterns. The bridge has a raised intensity without any volume change or added instruments, as one of the acoustic guitars picks out a light yet haunting solo. I love all the acoustic guitar work and the haunting yet somehow nice progression, especially as the song fades out to soft “ooooooohs”.

Track 3: Low piano drives a heavy beat underneath more heavily reverbed vocals. Harmonic and mysterious with echoes about. It’s clear this mixtape maker has a love for ambient music and atmospherics. Strange twitching effects creep back and forth between ears as the drums subtly crash in the background, reminiscent of In Rainbows Radiohead. “What now what now?” is cried partly in falsetto as the song's chaotic energy climbs. At the halfway point, the song quiets down leaving just a relentlessly tapping bass drum which leads way to violin-sounding synths. The drums kick back in after a short break, constant crashing of the symbols compliments the repeated “what now?” call. The last minute is a gradual fade out of all the instruments with the ever-present tap of the bass drum.

Track 4: A light mic tap sustains the beat for some light and fun sounds, almost like a vibraphone. A distorted guitar joins the mix as the bass lifts the song to a new plateau. The voice is high and echoed. I can really understand the good memory-based lyrics in this one, “Don’t forget the nights when it all felt right.”

Track 5: A hooky guitar riff opens the song, before a voice comes in so crisp and so familiar. Could it be Mr. Thom Yorke? It is! I want to say the song is Talk Show Host (I still do not have Hail To The Thief, though I have heard most of it) as Thommy throws out “You want me? Well fucking come on break the door down.” A terrific song, not entirely unexpected based on the first 4 tracks, I had a feeling Radiohead wouldn’t be far around the corner.

Track 6: High violins screech as piano-rock chords pound over slow drums. A scratchy voice on the singer, “You know it’s time we grow old…I like it all that way..” Another song similar to these already listed, not a bad thing by any measure. This song could almost be Keane were it not for the singer. A gradual build of instruments and rhythms over an already busy line of guitar and piano. I don’t know how but this song is for sure going to be on my iPod, the first guarantee so far (other than Radiohead, which obviously will be on my iPod soon enough anyway).

Track 7: Soft and pleasant acoustic guitar picking over what sounds like flute immediately sends a nice song into itself. A nice clear voice falling up into falsetto occasionally, a nice break from all the heavily reverbed voices. This is my type of acoustic music, guitar and piano with what sounds like midi piano effects around. Reminds me of “Fallen From The Sky” by The Swell Season, breezy and fun. This singer’s got a great light voice as he reflects over soft horns, “We were in love, we were in love.” I’m quite curious to see who this was, I very much like it and it was a great fresh change in the tape’s pattern.

Track 8: Whoa! Sounds like a Scottish bagpipe tune being played instead on guitar and bass. Tap tap tapping on the drums over similar singing to the last track, and descriptions of oceans, fireflies, and waiting “for the season to come back to me.” Very short and very fun. The kind of quirky little tune to put a smile on your face no matter what.

Track 9: I love the progressions already as strings soar over light electric guitar. A toe-tapper for sure, another mellow singer with a great voice. This song sounds very very familiar to me; I know I’ll kick myself when I figure out what it is. The piano in the chorus sounds so much like Randy Newman, but the singer is like a light Tom Chaplin of Keane. The lyrics welcome someone in and repeat “You’ve got my eyes”, could be a father’s loving hello to a newborn child. Loved it.

Track 10: An alarm-like wail in the background leads into acoustic guitar (loving it!) and light electric almost Jonny Buckland-like riffs. The progression sounds like Justin Nozuka’s “After Tonight”, but the instrumentals themselves are very Coldplay-like. “Sometimes I climb to the top to see what’s above…sometimes I count to ten just to see when I will see the sun,” a profound call for meaning. Another iPod add.

Track 11: Quiet piano plays alone until a beautiful female’s voice sings, sounding almost like Evanescence. Deep organ lies in the back of this haunting ballad. Very yearning feel to it, even with its sustained quiet.

Track 12: Piano and vocals kick right off. A familiar sounding singer, “We learn as we go, at least now we know something we can’t become.” The drums and bass play off wailing strings and the mellow voice being pushed to its limits. A great final line, “Hold on to the way we started, how it all should have gone.”

Overall, a really good mixtape. The first few tracks were a bit lagging, mostly because the singer’s were hard to understand, plus it’s just not fully my type of music. Kicked up a bit at Track 4, the Radiohead number was a treat. Track 6 was a highpoint, led perfectly to the line of mellow singers in tracks to come. Track 8 was probably the most fun, but Track 9 was the best of the bunch for me. A pretty nice combination of styles, and good use of track listing for dynamics and emotional highs-and-lows. Enjoyable to listen to and recommended. I look forward to meeting the maker and figuring out some of these mystery tracks!

Coolness. There's a bunch of bands in there I have never heard before, now I can say I have. It's funny cuz I've been thinking about getting into Travis lately, and now the best song on the mix turns out to be theirs!

I love writing big reviews like that, and it helps to have a mixtape with effort put in. And yeah all the track got jumbled in Rar...it just put them in alphabetical order, so I figured that's what the weird names were for. Oh and I loved the artwork too! :braces:

Thanks, I'm really glad you liked it. :nice:

Haha, next time I think I'll just use numbers for the title.
