What do you think...Muse and Radiohead

Featured Replies

I don't know if this has been a topic of discussion in the past, my apologies if so. Thanks to so many recommendations from others on coldplaying.com, I have "discovered" Muse. I told my friend, a Radiohead freakboy, to give them a listen. He promptly returned the CD and said 75% Radiohead, 25% Queen/ELO. He didn't hate it, he didn't love it, he just simply stated if you like Radiohead, you'll like Muse and vice versa. So, I decided to listen to some Radiohead. I hadn't really listened to any of their music. It's quite good. There are a few similarities but I think my friend was just being a hater. I think Muse is an amazing group with a very unique style. Radiohead, as I said before, is good too, but not the same.

Let me know if you have an opinion on this subject.

By the way, Coldplay is definitely my most favorite and loved band . I never get tired of listening to them. My friend has a man-crush on Chris.

Thanks for the input!:D

Welcome to the forums! :)

From my observations, if you meet someone who hates Muse, there's a good chance they like Radiohead.

On the flipside, if you meet someone who loves Muse, they probably like Radiohead too.

Case in point? Everyone likes Radiohead. :P

On the note of similarities, there is a huge laundry list of bands that are accused of being too similar to Radiohead, and that includes Coldplay.

At any rate, we also have respective threads for each of those bands here where I'm sure you'll find one side or the other.

Yea, I've heard the whole Coldplay sounds like Radiohead...blah, blah, blah. I totally don't get that at all.

I don't know how anyone could hate Muse unless they just don't like the infusion of all the different styles of music.

I've read some of those threads, just was looking to cut to the chase on this subject.

Thanks for responding.

Listening to Muse right now;)

Somebody might hate Muse if they can't handle big ego music.

I don't "hate" either of them, but neither of them excites me.

Briggins...in that order huh? Good 'nuf...

I used to be obsessed with Coldplay. And I did love Muse at one point.

I still listen to Coldplay every once in a while.

Muse's latest stuff just doesn't do it for me.

I see how Radiohead influenced a lot of bands. I don't think Coldplay are Radiohead rip offs or anything though.

Oh and just as a warning......any Coldplay, Muse, and Radiohead are thrown into the same sentence around here there is going to be lots of arguing.

There are some here who love all three, but there are also lots of people here who constantly bash Coldplay and Muse. I fall somewhere inbetween.

Big ego music...geez, isn't that describing every single band EVER?

Clearly not, as the two bands don't sound remotely similar.

No, you're right on Muse; I bought the latest albumn first and thought, okay, interesting. Then I bought Absolution and listened to earlier stuff. They kinda lost their direction on this last albumn. I think it could also be a song sequencing issue. Anyway....

Yes, I can see that putting these groups all together in a thread was probably not a wise decision. It's all good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. No worries.

Oops...my last comment was to Briggins....give me a break, I'm new to this.

I can hear more similarities between muse and radiohead then between radiohead and coldplay. Personally I love all three.

Somebody might hate Muse if they can't handle big ego music.

This is me. :smug:

I find Bellamy's big, guitar-hero persona too much. Big rock-god ego - no thanks. I have given Muse's music a try in the past, but wasn't quite for me, it's not bad, but not particlarly great either imo. I don't get all the fuss about them supposedly being all innovative and original, I just don't hear it.

Having said that, I don't much care for any post-OK Computer Radiohead either. I think their best work was The Bends. They are innovative, yes, but not quite my cup of tea these days.

And Coldplay....meh... Coldplay are Coldplay, I'm always gonna love at least 90% of the stuff they churn out. :D

Originally when I said ego music I was looking for the term "self-indulgent" but it didn't come to me until after I posted it.

I guess I'm just not one for virtuoso like musicians.

Radiohead

Coldplay

Muse

Basically this.

I just... don't understand Muse :freak:

Apart from their more known songs, I really couldn't care less for them

Briggs, did you injure a finger with that slick space bar action?

Yes. By the time I got to Coldplay I switched things around and used my nose to hold down the space bar.

Skilz!

Anita: I can´t say Muse is similar to Radiohead but i can say the first two Muse`s albums are very similar to The Bends. Actually Muse and Radiohead, in my opinion, are very different.

You just totally contradicted yourself.

I don't like radiohead so for me it's
