I'm not aware of any recent posts being deleted, certainly not 10 pages worth. There are no new moved posts in the wheelie-bin either. Anyone remember any keywords (and times of posting) within said posts and I'll check the logs?

I don't remember keywords, times, maybe 10am-1pm 10+GMT, I'm not sure. I have memory problems because of my meds, so I might just be forgetting that the thread was shortish.

Rumors have been circulating that Ian will close down the board. Some sources of my own have word straight from Ian that it is true, and that the reasoning is the lack of respect he has been receiving lately.

 

Ian, please do not shut down the forum. So many people love this place and will continue to use it. Coldplay have a 5th album coming, we all would love to go through the whole pre-album excitement together.

 

So I am asking that you add your name to the list. Put aside differences of opinions or how you feel about recent events; the one thing we ALL have in common is that we like this forum (otherwise we wouldn't be here). So let's show Ian how many people want this board to continue. Please feel free to post a message to Ian or regarding this forum.

I don't know exactly what's been going on as i assume most of it's been happening in The Lounge area and I don't really go there, however this is a forum for discussing Coldplay, can't people just get on with that and stop sniping at each other?! I've read this whole thread and some of the things being said by some of you about each other is really disrespectful :(

This topic is useless if I've read correctly in a thread earlier that Ian said to someone Coldplaying is safe (Which I assume to mean he's not shutting it down).

 

But I finally read Ren's post, I might be wasting my time replying but I have a fairly strong feeling that he'll be looking for responses, it was a pretty epic post afterall and I haven't seen anyone give him the credit for responding.

 

Firstly what strikes me is how, when thinking about it now, there's very little compelling evidence that Mark has been harassing these young girls to a dangerous level. Like I said in that Mark Fellating Ian topic, I never used to notice Mark talking to young girls, and when I came back here again around Christmas, I said many times that I would never believe him to be a pedo.

 

I will say that it wasn't just Nathan who influenced me, but another handful of members who brought me around to thinking that, in that thread called something like "Guess we'll be short of puns for the next week" when Mark was temporarily banned, so I did begin to notice him talking persistently in topics for young girls. On the other hand, Mark will basically be friends with anyone who's too nice to tell him to fuck off (Not trying to offend Mark here, it is just true) and by coincidence, that's 14 year old girls.

 

It's still weird though, I'm not denying that. Anyone who's an adult forum member (As I am) realises that while talking to minors is fine, PM'ing them, or writing VM's to try and get PM's out of them, is definitely crossing a line, as well as possibly making the girl feel weird, their parents would no doubt be alarmed.

 

That said, I feel like Nathan did influence me from that thread on, to believe that Mark's actions were a lot more persistent and attention seeking then maybe they actually were. He'd tell me about complaints from 14 year old girls as if they were daily, and as I was feeling a bit naive about the whole thing and never noticing Mark talking to kids, so I never asked questions. With that and noticing others such as Sara and Julie talking about how he's a big pedo, it becomes ingrained in a person to just believe it, like it's common knowledge, and it's bizarre more people aren't doing something about it.

 

For example, it was me who made the complaint about a girl who received a picture from Mark. She wrote 'Ewww' and said it literally disgusted her, it wasn't his dick or anything, it was him beside some singer. She also said that he had contacted her by PM, and had only started speaking to her the day before. Nathan happened to be on MSN at the same time as this was happening, I asked him if I should put in a complaint, and he gave the impression of why not, everyone else is complaining about him being a pedo. So I sent the girls PM's to Ian.

 

Was Mark acting weird? Certainly. Absolutely condemning evidence? Nope. But that's the closest thing to evidence I've known, and since then, I keep reading about other members mentioning this as if it's "Mark sending pictures to girls who are disgusted" or this legend of "The girl who kept getting pictures from Mark and was really creeped out about it". She seemed a bit creeped about, but more in a "Lol who's this old perv" kindof way. It seems like that little thing has gone around like Chinese whispers, and now mentioning it isn't just weird in the genuine way that it is; Mark sending a picture of himself to a minor he barely knows, but now it's written as if they were nude pictures or something.

 

It's as if it's gone through the rumour mill, and weeks later it's being discussed as this majorly perverted incident, and that's what makes me realise that what was put to me as being virtually countless complaints from lots of young girls on this forum, was probably just a few girls who felt a little bit uncomfortable. It doesn't make it right, but I do feel like I've been coaxed and influenced into believing the situation is a lot more extreme then it actually is.

 

As Ian has told me, he hasn't received 1 single complaint directly from a minor. It's usually hear'say, gone around the rumour mill, no real source, just "Those little girls over there", and it's pretty clear that even if Crest was a little creeped out, she was influenced. As well as that, *Sarah* might be an idiot, but she did at least raise one decent point (And I knew it at the time) that maybe the reason these little girls are getting creeped out is because they are constantly being told he's a paedophile, and to watch it, it's become such a well known forum joke that even writing a sentence with a :smug: ;) or :rolleyes: at the end will lead to someone calling you a pedo as a joke.

 

For over-reacting, I'll apologise to Mark, if he's reading this, at times I focussed too much on the accusations. If anything you should probably be greatful in an odd way, because by focussing on a problem that wasn't really a major problem, I haven't been putting in as much time exposing you as an attention seeking troll looking to stir shit up on the forum. But you don't need to thank the rumour mill.

 

To sum up; I believed that Mark was such a paedo too easily, after it seemed like common knowledge it was another convenient reason to hate him. Nathan does a good job of acting like it's common knowledge, kindof like a "You didn't know?!" sortof attitude, not that I'm being literal with that quote because he does it in a more subtle way then that. I can see how that would also work on girls like Sara or Julie, and not to demonize him, I don't think he did everything as one big scheme intentionally, but maybe his hatred of Mark did exactly what it did to me, make me want to believe that it was worse then it is.

I've only been here about two months, and all I've heard are bad things about Mark. The only real bad things I've actually witnessed about Mark are his terrible puns.

To make one thing clear to Mark and people like Sarah who support him, I may have over-reacted and believed the hype, but I still insist that what he's been doing is indeed weird. Who sends a picture of themselves to a minor when you've only known them for a day, and they never asked for one?

 

Sarah I despise because she was so utterly pro-Mark she refused to even consider what we a lot of people had been saying. True it's been overblown, but it's not as if it hasn't stemmed from absolutely nothing. There still have been incidents, and it appears since his banning in December, as a result of the thread that came after that in which a lot of members discussed his odd behaviour (Which had nothing to do with the ban by the way) he certainly seemed to tone down his behaviour around minors, in typical Mark fashion he adjusted his behaviour to the accusations.
