Or seeing the glass half full.. lol I think the song is quite beautiful, but I don't see it as a break up song or as a "how wonderful that we're in love" song. it seems sort of like a melancholy beginning of a memory. to be honest, i sort of see an impressionist painting in listening to this song - like a hazy memory. i have a feeling its looking up though. the album starts bittersweet and maybe ends sweet? i would normally consider that backwards to real life, but then again, i heard chris' words to mean that album would start with the song - its called wedding bells. you'd expect that at the end. but who knows. and for those people talking about hoping this isn't a final version - you can be damn sure it won't just be chris on a piano. there's not a chance coldplay would do that to start an album. even if that's the main part, it'll have a lot more than that. remember, these are the eno-influenced days. :dance:
September 8, 201015 yr I think the song definitely sounded way better on guitar and I kinda wished he had done that here. He's obviously worked out a piano part for the song because at the end of the song he plays some high notes that are meant to mimic wedding bells chiming. I'm sure a nice guitar part will accompany it. I think this is a perfect song to start a story. Everybody can relate to still being in love with somebody that doesn't love you back anymore and has moved on. It might be the worst feeling in the world. It reminds me a lot of the movie (500) Days of Summer. The same thing happened to the character in that movie. I think an album that details the feelings of a person rising from that terrible state to starting a new life would be awesome.

That's not how I interpret it at all. I think he is quite literally in the distance as the love of his life(or so he thinks) is getting married. "Poison in my blood" means he's been drinking his troubles away. He's lost the only thing he's ever loved but that doesn't mean she died. It means she left him. The procession is a wedding procession and the sea of white his her wedding dress. "Everything that went before didn't matter"... everything they had together didn't mean anything now. She is married to somebody else. That's how I see it but both interpretations could be correct. I just don;t see enough evidence to assume it's a flashback. If it was his memory of the two of them getting married, I don;t think we would get the feeling of him watching from a distance. Surely he would provide details of seeing her up and close, as opposed to observing from far away. Just my thoughts though.

Honestly, there are few songs out there where I think reading the lyrics and wondering about them would mean looking for secret meanings. Most are too straightforward for that. There are lots of ways to engage in music. Each has there merits, but I'd think anyone taking the time to examine a song would be the last ones to call stupid. :dozey:
