FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010

Featured Replies

You missed out!!

We weren't stalking we were behind the barriers facing the stage head on and watching them film the video. It was a great ending to a fantastic day!

Ah that sounds cool. I could beat myself up over it, but, well, I ended up getting a bit drunk with three guys while having an in depth conversation about the evolution of Coldplay's music vs Radiohead's  so I guess it's all good :P

Read Tonsu's post about the night - some good points there. It was set up to be something else entirely, and it didn't end up feeling like the once in a lifetime event I was expecting it to be. I'm just glad I didn't have to travel that far to get there, which is why I probably don't mind so much that it wasn't as great as it 'should' have been. But I can definitely see why those who had to travel from far away would be feeling slightly bitter about the unkept promises and such.

Tonsu thanks to your comment I'm now more exited about Christmas lights :p

Is it catchy?

A few people (ahem, Ian & angle :P) didn't like it.

But I thought it was great. The clip on YouTube of it from that tv show is just the chorus and it ends with that bit too, as we saw them film it about a THOUSAND times!

^ I hear you, but you weren't there...you may have felt differntly if you had flown all the way from BUF on the pretense of something that never eventuated? Im just saying....:)

I see what you're saying but honestly I know that I personally would have thought it was worth all the work.

Yeah we saw Simon. Him and Phil and somebody else are all dressed as elvis playing violins behind the band.

Did you shout to Simon, "hey, aren't you in Coldplay?"

Oh no problem! Ian doesn't like" in my place" either :p

But it's catchy? Slow or fast?

I know this sounds incredibly cheesy, but I was just so happy to meet up with people I met this summer once again. For real. I cried and stuff. Best turkey day ever.

I thought it was SO good. Chris' voice is really dynamic in this one - it goes low like in Yes in some parts, high like in Fix You in others, and really loud near the end where things come together. As people have said, I wish they had better speakers, but the style of the song really reminded me of LiT 2 in terms of it's uplifting sound, but with more organic instrumentation. It's soaring, that's for sure.

What Semy said. :)

Great :awesome:

In regard to the boat tour itself, here are a few pictures. I decided not to post a few of them; although they were pretty, they revealed where the set was going to be. So I'll hold off for a few days on those.

Hanging out with a few people outside the back of the boat. Natascha on the left (vivala)Frida on the right. Oh yeah, and that's Debs to the far right. :awesome:

I actually took more videos than pictures, but I'll wait until I get home to upload those. Or should I just wait until the fourth "oh"? inside jokes ftw

You weren't even there???

What more do I have to say. I really did expect anyone who wasn't there to not understand. You can't "disagree" with opinions. You can have your own. You can't delegitimize someone else's though. Why are you bothering telling us what we experienced was wrong? We went to it didn't we? I think we would know how we feel. You can't exactly inform us how we're supposed to feel.

I don't think anyone who has expressed a negative opinion has said anyone who felt positively is wrong. I'm glad Tonsu said what he did so people would realize I wasn't the only one disappointed.

It's easy for you to say all this now knowing what happened. But we all went not knowing what would happen or, actually, went after being told it would be something it turned out not to be. If I had known it was a video shoot I might have turned up on Friday, but not tonight. I didn't know what it was. I feel just the same as Tonsu, it didn't mean anything to me to be in a long shot of a video. It's not what I came for. I came for a meet and greet.

Also, I'm glad someone said something about the food. Because honestly, it was coffee, tea, biscuits and some sandwiches. Coldplay didn't need to offer us fine dining (even the bar thing didn't have to be paid for), but they could have made it special.

This is why I said I felt used. Coldplay (or if you want to say their management) didn't make the night special. And that honestly surprised me. Coldplay have led me to expect more. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I'm glad for anyone who enjoyed their time. It's also great if you felt you would. I don't disagree with you that that would be your reaction. Mine is what it is.

EDIT: I shouldn't say I didn't expect people to understand. I meant that it would be harder to put yourself in our place. Obviously, some people have been kind enough to be understanding of everyone's reactions. Be them positive or negative.

and i'm the only one who has never been to a coldplay concert:(

nope :(

OUR DAY WILL COME DIANNE:D Stuck in Florida, dinners at 5pm at my sisters house back at 8pm or so, then hopefully come on here and see some tweets or news about the boat.

Stuck in Florida - so freaking true and I hate it so much :bigcry:

I'm gonna be flithy rich someday and i'm gonna buy a jet and i'll go al over the world picking cpers and we'll go on a cruise trip with coldplay in it and we'll make our own video :snobby:

/jealous

This....

Even when you forget about the signed legal agreements, having somebody from the forum leak this information could cause the band to lose trust in the forum. As it stands, Coldplaying is held in very high respect by the band and their crew, hence this boat trip being planned in the first place. We do NOT want to lose that, ladies and gentlemen. ;)

Nicely put Michael!! :nice:

Anna elizabeth you are a really good singer !

She really is!!!

Miller and Phil were needed at the set and Matt is sick.

:(

And to all those that were 'disappointed' about what happened on the boat YOU GOT TO BE IN A COLDPLAY VIDEO WHATS THERE TO BE DISAPPOINTED ABOUT EH?

:huskyhug: I hope you guys had the best day ever!!!

I didn't tell you what you experienced was wrong, I was simply stating my own views.

What do you mean you can't disagree with an opinion? Of course you can. That's not illlegitimizing it. It's just giving another view.

I understand where you're coming from even though I disagree, and I'm fine with you having your own thoughts on this.

I'm sorry if you took this the wrong way. I didn't mean to be insulting at all. I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion, of course you are.

I've never been to a Coldplay concert either. :embarrassed:

I'm sorry to be continuing this, but it's really bothering me. You have to understand that when you say someone's complaints aren't worthy, that it is antagonizing. It is delegitimizing. In fact it very well is the definition of the word. Maybe you haven't meant to come off this way. But your words are. Obviously, we're all welcome to our own opinions. It's another thing to call people's complaints "unworthy". You're telling us we should feel differently. That's not respecting our feelings.

I'm not telling you to do anything.

Just because I don't feel the complaints were that big of a deal doesn't mean I'm telling you not to have them.

You're completely entitled to have them.

okay........

^you just made it a lot worse :P

This was an incredible night.

And to Phil and Nat and Petra and Custard.... I love you.

And I love Coldplay.

 It was wonderful to meet you too Jill!!! And all my other table mates (I've seen you lurking around :laugh3:) too. You guys rawked and made the evening brilliant!

So yeah, obviously, I just got back after my return journey... And what can I really say about the evening than absolutely bloody brilliant!

Not only did we get a free boat ride up the Thames (in a very nice boat), with free sandwiches (admittedly we could have done with more because everyone got really hungry), with new friends... But we also got immortalised in a Coldplay video!

I think that the evening ended up being what you made it. A part of me is a little upset that we didn't get to meet the band/didn't get signed goodies... But honestly, these were things that I came with the expectation of-- it was just what we'd all speculated on happening and things just panned out differently. The biggest part of me is just so happy that I had the opportunity to be there, be part of Coldplay forever now and meet so many nice people. (Plus do awful, awful karaoke. I swear I couldn't hear myself :stunned:)

Also, there was all that second half of the contract about the uber other secret (which probably shouldn't be disclosed) that none of us know any more about... So maybe we'll be plesantly surprised with what happens later.

Oh, and, to top everything off: Christmas Lights is a beautiful song. Really good and really deep at the same time. It gave me shivers. So cannot wait for that!

Night to remember for the rest of meh days.

Yeah, I noticed that on the boat too. I sort of thought that meant we'd get something before everyone else could. But now I have no idea to be honest. They did ask for our emails?

After reading these posts I am getting more and more pissed off..It's a shame Coldplay didnt meet people's expectations..Complaining about the food, that they didnt make it special for you because thats what you expect from Coldplay..You didnt get anything less then what you were promised..

Sure it would have been nice to arrive on the boat with a beautiful buffet spread out and then the band coming out and singing a few new songs..But that's not what it was supposed to be

I have to say many of you sound like whiny babies..If you decided to travel 3000 miles for this,no one forced you to..No one promised a concert or meeting the band..

They probably already have them because of the other details relayed from here to HQ for the rest... However, they do also have our addresses and all, so we may get something in a physical form and all. IDK, just theorising. It could mean nothing, but it could mean everything

I had a great time tonight. It was great meeting some of you and, of course, I got to be in a video. That being said, I really do feel for anyone that was disappointed by the event. I'm definitely biased because I traveled all of 25 minutes today, and those of you that had long journeys absolutely have my sympathy. Still, we were never promised an appearance from the band, and I would much rather be in a Coldplay video than have a q+a that could have been conducted over the web.

Perhaps once we see the final video people will appreciate what we were a part of. Again, this is not an attack on those that may have been left disappointed...
