I really like it. I didn't give it a 10 because I reserve 10s for the songs I love most of all, but it still sounds lovely to me. I love when it transitions between being a bit slower and then faster. The drums during the transitions sound great, and the piano is beautiful. I also think the lyrics are clever, and not overly Christmas-y. I love the line about Elivs! :lol:

But if it sounded like Yellow or Strawberry Swing, wouldn't that certainly make it seem like a "typical Coldplay song"? if you didn't like that it sounded like classic Coldplay, it doesn't really make sense to compare it to previous Coldplay songs, does it? Just food for thought.

But you can't compare Christmas lights to yellow or Strawberry Swing etc., because their're not christmas songs.

IMO a good comparison could be between "christmas lights" and the coldplay song for christmas 2009.....but there's not a previous coldplay christmas song :thinking:

 

Maybe the truth is that coldplay fan who don't like this song, firstly has to accept the fact that Coldplay have made a christmas song. Leaving every kind of scepticism and then judge the song.
