Hey partner, this is my belated review. :shame:

1. Ambient music, Sigur Ros-ish. Nice choice for an intro.

2. Folk rock + 60s retro music, I like this one. I'm studying History right now, what a great mood this song has given to me. :|

3. I'm not a big fan of female vocalist, ...to be honest I don't like female vocalists... But this one is good. :surprised:

4. The vocal sounds very 80s and familiar, but the music sounds modern. I like it.

5. A capella. The vocal is amazing, but I don't really like the song in general.

6. ...Delphic? I listen to Delphic, but shame on me I can't recognize this song! It's good.

7. This is not English. :| Spanish? :| I like this, really. Sounds so majestic and lively.

8. :dazzled: Who is this? omg I like this one a lot, sounds like a street rock song or something. Though the voice isn't too impressive, but it sounds just nice.

9. This one sounds like a cross between U2, White Lies and Mutemath. It's okay.

10. Sounds like Tokyo Police Club with a female backup solo to me. The lyrics are so mischievious, and I think the song is very light and enjoyable.

11. Good rocky intro, not bad. Again, reminds me of White Lies.

12. Is this Bon Iver's Woods? It's been a long time since I listened to Blood Bank EP, so I might be wrong. Nice track.

13. :uhoh: This sounds so country, with 80s feeling and stuff. Not too bad methinks. Light and enjoyable.

14. Male-female duet. Sounds like a love song. Not too good, but not so bad either. But I personally don't think it's the best way to end a mixtape.

Overall, it's a good mix. Thanks for putting a lot of effort for this, I appreciate it. 7.5/10

I don't think you understand how weird it is when download two songs by a 13 year old written the day before his first show, and actually really like them.

THAT.

So true...

Hi mixtape maker! Your tape was friggin perfect for me, you did such an amazing job and obviously have awesome taste in music. Here is my much belated review, I'm sorry it wasn't in sooner. Oh, and I really liked the cover art you chose with the white 'x'. Thanks for making such a good tape!

Howdy! I'm the individual responsible for your mixtape.

I'm really glad that you enjoyed it so much. I was hoping that you would like some of the tracks but that response was a bit overwhelming.

At the moment I'm away on holiday so I'm sat using 3G which is temperamental at best, so I will do a proper reply when I get back.

Hello! Guess correctly? :D

First off, totally sorry for the wait. I was on vacation all week, and unfortunately the Atlantic Ocean does not have internet access. :P

:wacky:

Thanks so much for the review! I was so scared you wouldn't like it. :uhoh:

The complete tracklisting:

2. Gold Guns Girls- Metric (Fantasies)

14. Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)- Florence + The Machine (Lungs)

15. Megalomania- Muse (Origin of Symmetry)

Yay, I was right  I read you'd be away and there was Muse on there so I figured it out :smug:

Maybe I'll get back to listening to Muse; I used to be a big fan of theirs but then I just sort of lost interest in them..I remember really liking Absolution, but I still didn't recognise the two tracks from there  :embarrassed:

Thanks again for the tape, I enjoyed it! I'll be checking Metric, White Lies and Susanne Sundfor out fo sho

You gave me Frighten Rabbit, British Sea Power, and Talking Heads on Mixtape Exchange ep. 4. Guess you really love them. And I almost put in The Tallest Man On Earth into my mixtape too, I just didn't know how to fit it in so I removed it :(

So I did! Haha, I do really love British Sea Power and Talking Heads, they're awesome :wideeyed: Or maybe my music tastes aren't as diverse as I thought

Hi David :D I'm your mixtape maker!

Firstly I'm sorry about the quality of the mp3s! I left my sister in charge of making the mixtape

my Mixtape overdue review:

That's how it starts, we go back to your house, we check the charts and start to figure it out

Track 1 – I’ve found something out, that living is a problem because everything dies. My poor plant, damn you hot weather. Good start

Biffy Clyro - Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies :P

Track 2 – Indian drums, Cornershop, Kula Shaker or Of A Revolution?, good track

Screaming Trees - Halo Of Ashes. I stole it from my sister's music collection!

Track 3 – Radiohead sounding track, can’t really make out any of the vocals as they are deep inside the song. Good guitar playing around 3:20

Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother. I know Thom Y was influenced by him, and you can hear it in his vocals! :)

Track 4 – Good song by the Tired Pony, but where's the silver necklace you, never wear anymore?

Yep, Tired Pony :D

Track 5 – Good start, the vocalist rings a bell but my mind has gone blank, some band from the last 5 years?

Mt.Desolation - Bitter Pill . They are the side project of Tim Rice-Oxley (songwriter/keyboardist in Keane) and it's actually him singing!

Track 6 – Sounds like something from the 1960s, or a “retro” artist like Paolo Nutini, on further listening it’s sounding more like a retro artist.

You're right, it is Paolo Nutini! He sounds a bit like an old man on this! :P

Track 7 – Alex Turner, sounds like it’s from his Last Shadow Puppets project from the chorus I’m saying Seperate And Ever Deadly

Ohhhh you're right again :laugh3:

Track 8 – Good rocky intro, sounding a bit like the famous Nirvana, as opposed to the Nirvana from the 60s. A song from the Bleach era, About a Girl?

Yesssss !

Track 9 – I have no idea! Good song though, sounds like something from the late nineties or early 2000s?

Sebadoh - The Freed Pig. They're a 90's band, this song is from 1991 I think

Track 10 – Black Swan Song/Grandpa's Symphony by Athlete, beautiful song, reminds me of the video for The Royal British Legion.

Yes! :P

Track 11 – Nice Gary Lightbody song it sounds like, you are my joy from the The Reindeer Section side-project

*sighs* you're right again! :veryangry2:

Track 12 – Moody intro, before turning into a soft-sounding song, vocalist sounds a bit like Eddie Vedder, Better Man might it be?

Correct.

Track 13 – Good intro, electronic sounding, long intro, but I have no idea. Sounds interesting though

This John Frusciante - In Relief. He's the guitarist in Red Hot Chili Peppers and has some really good solo work :)

Track 14 - Jack Savoretti’s Russian Roulette? beautiful song

:oDamn! I was hoping that you hadn't heard Jack! He's like the best kept secret

Track 15 – Good sounding song, but as for whom it is I have no idea

Goldheart Assembly - Boulevards. They're still quite new I guess. I heard them on Steve Lamacq's show and they're really good and have perfect harmonies. They're always compared to Fleet Foxes apparently !

Track 16 – Good track, Keane’s On a Day like Today

yesss

Overall a good mixtape :)

I am so sorry that you knew basically all of the tracks! :( When I was stalking you and looking at the bands you posted about I thought "Oh no!" because I loved the same ones as you ! :\ I guess we have quite similar music taste :P Thankyou so much for reviewing, it can't have been the most exciting one to listen to :embarrassed:

And here it is if anyone wants to download : -

  6. Paolo Nutini - No Other Way

  13. John Frusciante - In Relief
  14. Jack Savoretti - Russian Roulette
  15. Goldheart Assembly - Boulevards
  16. Keane - On A Day Like Today

I am so sorry I’m late! I like to listen to it a few times to get the feel of it…

Here is my review…

1. Starts with a beat, then a soothing male voice comes in singing about a ball of string

2. I really didn’t like this. Really annoying female voice. “You’ve got a black eye on your eye / Tell me was it from a fight?” Irritating.

3. This has a good beat, male falsetto, imagine this would be good to dance to!

4. Really like this, music is hypnotic and the singer has a dreamy voice, kind of like the guy from Arcade Fire

5. Ethereal, dreamy music. Lyrics are indecipherable

6. I love this. Not sure, but it sounds like Noah And The Whale? Beautiful, and made me feel all warm inside. Just lovely <3

7. Really like this person’s voice, although I can’t understand a word he’s saying :P

8. Calm male singer, like the lyrics, very story-telling, poetic.

9. Really nice soulful male voice, again I can’t understand a word but I feel like I know who it is?

10. Soothing male singing “I hope someday I’m deaf and dumb and blind” Hmmm..I hope not!

11. Strange voice, sounds like a mix between James Blunt and David Tennant! :P

12. This is an acoustic duet between a mystery male and Florence? Short and sweet . Really like this.

13. Weird voice again, kind of reminds me of Caleb Followill from Kings Of Leon. Slightly grating.

14. Slinky! Jamiroquai-ish. Sounds like female backing vocals towards the end

15. Nice way to end the mixtape, fits in perfectly with the chill theme J

Overall this was pretty good J It flowed perfectly from one track to the next. Not really the kind of music I would listen to ordinarily, as it got a bit boring in places but nonetheless it was fun to listen to something different :D

One question – the artwork. Was is it actually on the artwork? It maybe just my Coldplay brain but to me it looks like Jonny Buckland! :D

Mixtape maker……reveal yourself! :P

 I don't know, I listened to it twice but that's what I can personally conclude about the track!

Haha, it's fine. I'm guilty of making weird comparisons like that, too.

Mixtape maker……reveal yourself! :P

I'm relieved :D

Hi Naomi, I'm Sofia, your mixtape maker :nice:

No probs about the lateness, I'm really glad to know you listened to it a few times and took that seriously. Plus, I knew in advance you'd take your time to review it, like you did in the last mixtape exchange (don't ask me why, I remembered that). So I was prepared and there's no big deal :)

Anyway, here's my reply. I wanted to do it in the quote but then it got messy so I gave up :P

1) So this soothing voice belongs to a great artist previously known as Shipwreck and now called Lontalius from New Zealand. He is also known as 'Italian Plastic', Eddie, just here on Coldplaying :) It's from his first E.P, 'Singing To You Shipwreck'. You should really have a listen if you liked this one and also to another track called Emmett Brown. I love his work!

2) Haha sorry you didn't like it... I understand why though. I knew this would be a risky choice because you seemed not to listen to female voices that much and this one isn't very original. Anyway, it's a funny and short pop song I like and discovered recently from a band, Love Inks, called, as you guessed, Blackeye.

3) Yay, this one's for dancing  :D I wanted to follow the previous mood with an electro dancing song. I really like the male voice and the musicality of this one, especially with the bass line and the electric guitar, though it's electro with the synth and the drum machine. It's from an American band, Penguin Prison. This song is called Golden Train and got famous here cause it opened a big TV show.

4) So glad you liked this one! I think you totally described everything well here, I got nothing left to say :) This is Shout Out Louds, a Swedish band, off their second album (they made 3) 'Our Ill Wills'. I can commend you some others songs from them if you want but basically their albums are all good :)

5) Yep, absolutely, dreamy music... That's what I love in this song, it always makes me float :wacky: And I absolutely can't understand the lyrics neither :blank: It's Cannons from a little American band called Youth Lagoon. They're currently preparing their first album.

6) Aaaand... Right! Noah And The Whale! I really thought you'd know it because they're from UK... I couldn't help but put it anyway. I'm just in love with this song. All is perfect, especially the lyrics :wacky: It's from their second album 'First Days Of Spring', my very favourite of them so far. You should listen to it if you didn't because it's a brilliant opus, really

7) This person's voice is... A female one :D I'm really glad you liked it!! It's Beach House with I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun. This is a free new song posted on their website a few months ago (right after the last mixtape exchange). I love this band, their last album, Teen Dream, is epic. You should check it out if you liked this song, a real dreamy album :)

Oh and again, you're right, I always struggle to understand what she sings...

8) Once again, you said it all :wacky: Bon Iver with Blood Bank, off their latest material, the Blood Bank E.P from 2008. Justin Vernon is a genius, his songwriting is so awesome... Always leaves me stunned. New Bon Iver album out soon, from what I already heard it's gonna be great... They also made an album called For Emma, Forever Ago (their first one). And Justin Vernon made some solo stuff (2 albums) if you wanna check out his work :)

9) You probably heard his first single on radio or TV, that's why it may sound familiar :) James Vincent McMorrow with Hear The Noise That Moves So Soft And Low, an Irish artist. Off his first album, Early In The Morning, that he recorded all alone during months in a small town in Ireland. He tried to use his voice as an instrument as he didn't have trumpets and all other stuff. I really love how it sounds. You'd like it I think, I commend you to check it out :)

10) Haha you cracked me up! To be honest, I didn't pay attention to that lyric line  but maybe it's because every time I hear David Wingo's voice, my brain gets disconnected... Love the first line though ("shreds my heart, in million different places all the time") Anyway, this a song called Lakes Of Wine by the American band I absolutely love, Ola Podrida. Their stuff is mostly based on guitars and their lyrics are great too. They made 2 albums, both are awesome.

11) Yep, his voice is kinda special... That's why I like it! It's a French duet singing in English called Cocoon. They're not that famous here but all their shows are sold out very quickly (and they're good live too). Oh and the song is called Dolphins off their last album, which is great and better than their first one in my opinion.

12) Yeah you're right! Once again I was afraid you'd knew it because it's Florence Welch + Kid Harpoon and they're both from the UK :P

Glad you liked it!! It's a cover from Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm Goin' Down', I love it :)

13) I agree about the grating thing, I always thought it gives him this funny sounding :) It's Little Comets with Her Black Eyes, off their great first album. I wanted to put a more upbeat song but I was afraid you'd knew it, as they're from UK too, so I chose to put this one, an acoustic and quieter one.

14) Haha, yeah, slinky as you say :wink3: I like this funky vibe, Jamiroquai-ish as you say :) It's a young French artist singing in English (again!) called Charles Pasi. I got into him because he's the opening act for Jack Johnson, gig I'm gonna attend this summer  Anyway, it's off his debut funky album, Uncaged.

15) I'm glad you liked the way I ended this tape :) I was a bit afraid too for this one, I thought this might not fit at all your tastes but well, I'm happy you understand why I put it on there... It's another French artist singing in English and Spanish, Jehro. He has lots of musical influences that's why his music is really interesting I think. This one is Tonight Tonight, off his second album out a few weeks ago and I've been waiting for 4 or 5 years know, Cantina Paradise.

I'm glad you didn't hate the tape overall! To be honest, I immediately saw we didn't have the same tastes, though I also like some bands you like, so I thought I had basically 2 choices: making a tape that fits your tastes or making an original and coherent one with some different genres and unknown artists. I chose the risky way and I don't regret at all, I'm really glad I could make you listen to some different stuff. I understand why you think it was a bit boring in places, I also thought I put lots of acoustic tracks at the end... I'm also happy you liked the flow, I really worked on it and even made some last minute changes :)

Oh and about the artwork... That's great you noticed it :P And no, it's not just your Coldplay brain, it's a picture I took during the beginning of the gig (Violet Hill), in Lyon in 2008 and it's Chris right here :D I'm kinda proud of this picture I admit

Well, I'm finally done! Please feel free to ask me anything you want about the tape and the artists. I can also give you some material if you're interested and you can't find it :nice:

If it's chockful of autotune, then yeah, it probably is.

HAHAHA!! So true

He is also known as 'Italian Plastic', Eddie, just here on Coldplaying :) It's from his first E.P, 'Singing To You Shipwreck'. #1 - Lontalius - Lontalius (previously known as Shipwreck) - Singing you to Shipwreck - 2010 - New Zealand

:awesome:

Eddie's such a rockstar

Both. MGMT - I Found A Whistle. Based on what you said you listened to you should look into these guys.

Ahhh I knew it sounded familiar. I have a few MGMT songs, but I haven't listened to much yet.

I was gonna be brave and use this to introduce you to Radiohead. Didn't quite work out I guess. Suggest you listen to No Surprises or Creep, though.

Radiohead - Go To Sleep (Little Man Being Erased) off Hail To The Thief.

Hmm I do like some Radiohead...I like Creep and 15 Steps a lot, but I haven't listened to tons of them. Obviously not enough to recognize the song :P

Was a bit surprised that you didn't know them. The Arcade Fire - My Body Is A Cage.

Again, I've listened to some Arcade Fire but not much. This seems to be a pattern with me - I find songs I like but then I go off and find something by another band without hearing anything else from the first one. I really should try and be better about that :P

Either you're being very polite or you didn't pay attention, haha. This is a joke.

Definitely was being polite. I had a feeling it was a joke, but as I was writing the review I was like "wait...what if it's not!"

Thanks again and I will definitely be checking out more from some of these bands and listening to the other songs you suggested. :)

Ah, ok. Great :nice: Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the tape and I hope you like the other stuff I posted :awesome:

10. Black Widow- Susanne Sundfor (The Brothel)

You are awesome.

So here is my review, I'm sorry that it took so long... I hadn't much time this weekend, but here it is! I found it really annoying that on some tracks the artwork, or song details were not deleted correctly... But I tried not to look at it!

Track 1

So, a classical music piece from the soundtrack of the Amadeus movie. It's OK to listen to one time, it's great background music, but it's not music I could "listen" to, if you know what I mean... 6,5/10

Track 2

Weird choice after the first song... This is from Portishead right? I don't know the title of the song... It reminds me of the old James Bond films, was it used in one of those? Again OK, but not something I want to listen to more then once... 7/10

Track 3

Lotus Plaza - Red Oak Way says my music player. never heard of... Lovely intro with nice guitar sounds... But then some weird ticking noise, and a boring voice comes in, and other weird vocals... Not my type of music... 5,5/10

Track 4

Yeah Piano! But then also violin again, meh... Absolutly better then the first song, I especially liked the piano in it... 7/10

Track 5

Again Piano, with a nice voice! Lovely when the guitar and drums kick in... And then suddenly the song really starts... Great sound! The piano and guitar are really great in this song! Also the Bass melodies are really good! And lovely piano that ends the song, a bit jazzy sounding... Lovely song, absolutly the best of the mixtape! Never heard this before actually, so I really want to know who this band is! 8/10

Track 6

I've heard this song before! But don't know who this is... I really like this song! Great lyrics, and vocals! And the funny piano melodies, I started playing along with it on piano... Great song, really makes you happy! 7,5/10

Track 7

Again beginning with some violins... Classical piece again... There is piano in it, but no I didn't liked it... I know this is great music, and many people like it, but I just don't... 6/10

Track 8

Daedelus - Sundown says my music player again... Never heard before... What an awful music! I really don't like this... All the weird beepes, and voices, and ticking noices... Can people really listen to this, and enjoy this? Then some weird clapping audience suddenly... Weird drums... Messy music... 4/10

Track 9

A bit like Track 8... Again weird computer noices... OK this I can understand people like this, It's not bad... There are some interesting melodies in it... And keyboard melodys... some weird voices, and fast drums... Again it's not bad, but I can't listen to it much... Also the song doesn't progress or something (Is that correct English?) It doesn't change that much... Overall it's all the same... Although I like the melody on the beginning, and that comes back at the end of the song... 6/10

Track 10

So Windows says this song is from the movie "The Social Network", and my music player says it's from Jason Mraz! WEIRD, it isn't both I think... The overall melody is great, reminds me of Scary movies... But every other sound in the song is just awful... I didn't like that... Escpecially the end of the song... 5,5/10

Track 11

Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lies says my music player... I heard of Interpol, but never listened to it... So, guitar-y intro... Then bass, drums... Luckily another "Normal song"... It's not a bad song, but also not really exciting... A bit boring maybe... Escpecially the vocals... 6,5/10

Track 12

Is that a train? Clapping an a choir... Nice vocals... But it's not really a song, not many sound besides the vocals and the clapping... I think it's OK.. Althought I don't like the weird ending of it... Weird way to end a mixtape... 6/10

Overall I think it's a nice mixtape, a nice mix between 3 kinds of music, Electonical, Classical, and Rock music... I really liked that idea actually, because I don't listen to many electronic/classical music actually... So thanks for that! Track 6 and 7 are my favourite tracks, listened to them more now! I really want to know the bands who are behind those songs! Thank you for the Mixtape! Rating: 7/10

Here is my review! Really sorry for taking so long :disappointed:

1. Nice, quiet beginning with acoustic guitar. i like the lyrics and the strings are pretty.

I love this part: 'I want to leave this world behind annd travel like a spaceman'

2. i like this one a lot, seems like a good song for a western. The singer has a nice voice too.

yeah I love this vocal's voice very deeply.

3. Sad song. This isn't something i'd normally listen to, sounds very 80s. The voice sounds really familiar, but i'm not liking it much.

it is very very sad song i think   but I love it so much..

4. Another 80s-sounding song with loud guitar parts. The singer has a deep, muffled voice. Again, this isn't the kind of music i would typically listen to.

okay I understand you realy don't like this kind of genre :) :)

5. This one is kind of erm, alternative country? i dunno, not too bad to listen to but there's nothing really special about it.

I love this song's beginning part and it is not alternavite counrty :) just rock

6. Apparently this guy doesn't want Joleen to take his man. This song is rather nice i s'pose.

ooh this song have very very meanful for me :D sadly, the white stripes seperated :(

7. Eh, not a fan of this kind of music. Grungy voice and repetitive lyrics that are trying really hard to sound deep.

i've never looked it this at side :)

8. The music in this song sounds sort of middle eastern. Don't like the singer's voice very much.

Why did you said middle eastern :s It's just because the beginning?? I've never lookid that song at your view again

9. Sappy love song D: Heard this before of course, never known what it's called or who sings it though. Sorry, but i'm really not a fan of this.

This song is really really love song! Love it so much!

10. Another love song. This one is just a guy singing a song with a guitar. Hmm, a little too simple and boring for me.

Again a very meaningfull song for me cuz i have lots of memory in this song. Yes people always got bored when they were listening this :)

11. ~jukeboxes are fun and we're so cool~

haha JUKEBOX!!!

12. Live country song. i dunno what to say about this one, every country song sounds the same to me.

country songs just relax my mind :)

13. i like the violin in this, sounds very celtic. The singer sounds a bit like the one in the second song though.

adorable violin sounds..It makes you wanna play violin. yes it is the same band in the second one.

14. This one is a Jason Mraz song i think, but i only know this because you forgot to remove a few of the album covers. :P Hmm, i remember liking a few of his songs 6 or 7 years ago. This is nice to listen to but i find this kind of music to be a little bland.

Yes You're right! Jason Mraz. I was listening this music 2 or 3 years ago but i still remember whole lyrics :) :) This song makes you feel in a beach i think :D

15. This guy has a pleasant voice. The music and lyrics are also pleasant. if i were to rate it, i'd rate it a pleasant/10. i think it would've been better to end the mixtape with this one.

maybe you are right...Did you listen Coldplay cover of this song. Maybe you're gonna love it more. here:

16. Forget the quiet, happy sound of the last song, now we're LOUD AND MISERABLE. i'm pretty sure this is Linkin Park. Not my cup of tea tbh.

no no they're not Linkin Park. I don't like LP  This band called Simple Plan. I've been listen them for 7 years. They're part of my life :) :)

Sorry if my review seems harsh, i guess we just have very different tastes in music. There were a few songs that i liked, and i can't say i hated any of them, although the last one did kind of assault my ears D: Anyway, thanks for making this and i'd really like to see the tracklist!
