Oh hai hello bonjour. Since your mixtape partner/maker did not make a mixtape for you, Mike asked me to make one and I happened to have that one made already. Haha no I'm not Eddie, not pretending to be Eddie. Before I sent the mixtape I made sure to check out your lastfm, so yeah I decided to show you some electronic tracks I enjoy lots, making a bit of emphasis on Four Tet cos that was basically my best discovery in music about 3 years ago, you should listen to Rounds, specially Hands, which is one of my favorite tracks by him. As for the artwork and the other shit I just tried to make it a nice relaxing mixtape to listen to.

This is the tracklist, glad you enjoyed it =D

1.- Outro - Unkle

2.- Edgar - Modeselektor

3.- Ego - Burial + Four Tet + Thom Yorke

4.- I am Citizen Insane - Radiohead

5.- You - Gold Panda (the album actually has two tracks named like that, so if you download it is the last track)

6.- Plastic People - Four Tet

7.- Moth - Burial & Four Tet

8.- Biscuit - Portishead

9.- Quick Canal - Atlas Sound

10.- 4 minute Warning - Radiohead

This was so much fun D: Sorry you had to wait so long for a mixtape!

Yeah also, Mike asked to review a mixtape, so yeah I'll do it but in a few hours =D

Hello Alexa!

Thank you SO MUCH for going to the effort of making another mixtape and having me review it, I really appreciate it! Besides, this one was probably better than the one I would have received anyway :awesome:

Hmmmm I've been meaning to listen to a couple of the bands on that mixtape, so thanks for introducing me to them! I'll be sure to check out all those artists though!

All in all it was a pleasure to get your mixtape, and you definitely made a nice relaxing mixtape (which is perfect for this time of semester D: )

Again, thank you! :D

I'm still waiting for a review. Would someone else be able to review mine, maybe?

I think I could do it :)

Oh that would be great! :D I'll PM you! :)

Salut Deirdre!! Ok, we're both french but we'll do this in english...xD

1. Heavy guitars, nice intro with them, definitely a rock song! It must be a classic rock song? A man is singing. I already have heard this track!

It's Kings of Leon with Crawl ;) I thought it would made a good opener (and this track actually open OBTN).

2. A song you want to dance to and sing along to the "ouh ouh ouh" (actually I did :D). A male singer is singing. I like the music instrument which sounds like somebody’s hammering on a piece of metal or something! I would say it’s an alternative, pop/rock song.

It's Peter Bjorn and John. I only know this song from them. I listen a lot to OUI FM and they're playing a lot right now. I liked this song so I put it!

3. After the first listenings, it made me think of "The Pierces” music style. The music part is more important than the singing part. But, when I open the folder with WMP (I like to switch between iTunes and WMP. I should have sticked with iTunes!), some information showed up: it’s Blondie but no mention of the song title.

I opened all my tracks with windows media player and I delete everything..*bizarre* And yeah it's Blondie with 'Atomic'. This track is actually from Khaplay (who couldn't play for this mix so I let her choose a track that I would put in mine :p )

4. I recognize a French female duet: Brigitte. Their voices go very well together. The track sounds folkish, bluesy to me. But I don’t remember the title of it. Are you French, mixtape maker (because their album was released not so long ago if I remember correctly)?

Yep, Brigitte indeed! I discovered her thx to Emilie Mazoyer chronicle on Le Mouv and I bought their album, it's great!

5. A calm song sung by a male singer with a rather deep voice. But I found it a bit too calm for me now (yeah, some moments I don’t enjoy listening to very calm songs and sometimes I do. Bad timing!).

It's Holocene, a song from bon Iver's new album. I like this guy and this song.

6. Moriarty – “Isabella”. It’s a kind of folkish/country song to me. The female singer’s voice is really amazing!

10/10 :) Love her voice too!

7. I think it’s Florence and the Machine. The female singer has also a Voice. I didn’t really get into this band when I first heard of it but I really like this song.

My dear Flo of course! It's a b-side called 'hardest of hearts'.

8. A rock song sung by a woman or a man: I have a bit difficulty to tell even after some listenings  I like the chorus, it seems like a choir. It must also be a classic rock song, no? I also have heard it before.

The band is The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. I only know this song from them (again, it's playing a lot on OUI FM, the 'indé playlist')

9. It sounds like an Elton John song to me, very catchy  A woman joins the male lead singer in the chorus.

The band is Fitz and the Tantrums. I (again) only know this song, I heard it on a video where the Kings of Leon were fooling around on this song XD and I liked it.

10. It could totally be an Arcade Fire song, is it mixtape maker? Again, a woman joins the male lead singer in the chorus.

It is Arcade fire with 'city with no children'. I'm not a 'fan' of them but I like this one a lot.

11. It sounds like a British band. One more track with rocking guitars (me liking it :D). The singer is a male and his voice is kind of deep, more in the verses than in the chorus. :Sing on: This is a love song, this is a love song…:sing off:

British band indeed called Chapel Club. Remind me of mix of White Lies and Joy Division. Their album is really good.

12. This song rings a bell to me again! I like the bit of music at the very beginning which is repeating before the chorus. And it mixed pretty well with the rest of this alternative, pop/rock song! A man is singing. To me, the voice sounds similar to the voices you hear on bands classified in the “emo” genre (I don’t like this term because to me it’s more affiliated to a style -fashion- because lots of songs can be emotional in different music styles!)

It's the Wombats!! With 'jump into the fog'. I wanted to end the mixtape with a 'joyfull' track and I thought this one would fit!

So here the full tracklisting:

1- Crawl - Kings of Leon

2- Second chance - Peter Bjorn and John

3- Atomic - Blondie

4- Battez-vous - Brigitte

5- Holocene - Bon Iver

6- Isabella - Moriarty

7- Hardest of hearts - Florence+The Machine

8- Belong - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

9- MoneyGrabber - Fitz and the Tantrums

10- City With No Children - Arcade Fire

11- All The Eastern Girls - Chapel Club

12- Jump Into The Fog - The Wombats

[And some information on the music style showed up (either with iTunes or WMP) but they don't match the actual style of the track (for example, the song 10 is classified as Ska, the 11 as Bebop,...). Is it on purpose to confuse me or is it a mistake?]

That was to confuse you XD

TO MY MIXTAPER: I saw the tracklisting you've posted but I hadn't had the time to answer you! THANK YOU A LOT! Will definitevly check some of the artists in my mix!!

Anyone want to review mine? first come, first serve.

I'll do it.

You should feel lucky that song 10 wasn't ska, I probably would have asked you to marry me or something, especially if it was third wave. :|

Ok this is my review of Simon's mixtape

1. It starts with a sweet guitar, I don’t know this song. Sounds very british :P Nice start for the mixtape.

2. We Used To Wait (Arcade Fire). I love this song, AF is my favorite band these days and this is one of the best songs of their lastest album, great choice :D The lyrics are just perfect. I wish we'd still send letters instead of facebook messages, it's such a lovely thing.

3. Bon Iver – Michicant right? This is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion, it fits perfectly with the winter here, it’s raining outside and is such a nice day to listen to this kind of stuff. I love his voice.

4. Stuck on the Puzzle, Alex Turner. The Submarine EP is what really got me into Alex and Arctic Monkeys, I used to like them a lot, I also like TLSP but with this EP it was love at first listen. Definitely one of the best songs there. I love the way he writes, he’s very talented.

5. Something upbeat. I don’t know this but sounds like a fun song . Is it called radar detector maybe? I liked this a lot.

6. Another song I don’t know. Sounds a bit like Passion Pit but it’s not them I think. Another fun song :D

7. Fleet Foxes! I love them :D Winter Hymnal, such a lovely song again, it fits with the weather here except the snow part! :P I like how you mix slow songs and more upbeat ones

8. Something good can work! I love this album too haha I think I could have made this mixtape we have a very similar music taste :awesome: I really like these kind of happy songs

9. Guitar! Sounds a bit like country haha weird stuff, not a big fan of the voice but the music is good and simple and the lyrics are nice

10. This is good! I don’t know this song but I like the start and it’s quite catchy too

11. This is country-ish too but I like it. The lyrics are simple and great, it’s just about getting older and changing, very nice :D

12. A slow one, I think this one is the only song I didn’t enjoy that much, but it’s not bad actually.

13. Sounds like Mumford and Sons, I mean, the voice. I’m almost sure it’s them but I don’t remember this song. It’s a good one, sounds kinda dark in a good way

14. Foals! Spanish Sahara. This song is so relaxing, I’m not too familiar with Foals but I like this song. I really like the part that starts around 4:20

15. Ohh last song! Good mixtape end, a slow song with some piano. I don’t know this but sounds great

I know this wasn’t made for me but I think this is a pretty cool mixtape, I think Simon and I have a very similar music taste so it's not a surprise I really enjoyed this. Like I alread said, It's cool how you mixed slow songs with catchy tunes. My favorites are number 2, 4, 7 and 11

:D

Ok this is my review of Simon's mixtape

1. It starts with a sweet guitar, I don’t know this song. Sounds very british :P Nice start for the mixtape.

THE COURTEENERS! An extremely underated band, I love the lyrics in this song, and as it is called 'The Opener', it's a good opener for the mixtape! :D

2. We Used To Wait (Arcade Fire). I love this song, AF is my favorite band these days and this is one of the best songs of their lastest album, great choice :D The lyrics are just perfect. I wish we'd still send letters instead of facebook messages, it's such a lovely thing.

I think this is one of, if not my favourite Arcade Fire song. The Suburbs album is what got me into Arcade Fire and now they are one of my favourite bands!

3. Bon Iver – Michicant right? This is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion, it fits perfectly with the winter here, it’s raining outside and is such a nice day to listen to this kind of stuff. I love his voice.

Isn't it brilliant?? At first listen of this album, I didn't really like it but it grew on me so much and I love it. It really is fantastic. I am going to see Bon Iver in November and I am just so excited.

After Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys are my favourite band, and Alex Turner's stuff is fantastic!

5. Something upbeat. I don’t know this but sounds like a fun song . Is it called radar detector maybe? I liked this a lot.

Yep, it's called Radar Detector and it is by a very weird guy called Darwin Deez!

6. Another song I don’t know. Sounds a bit like Passion Pit but it’s not them I think. Another fun song :D

Gypsy & The Cat- The Piper's song. This band is brilliant, they should be massive!

7. Fleet Foxes! I love them :D Winter Hymnal, such a lovely song again, it fits with the weather here except the snow part! :P I like how you mix slow songs and more upbeat ones

I've never been a massive fan of Fleet Foxes but their are some songs, like this one, which I love!

I'm so excited to see them this summer, should be really fun!

9. Guitar! Sounds a bit like country haha weird stuff, not a big fan of the voice but the music is good and simple and the lyrics are nice

This is Paolo Nutini, I'm sure you've heard of him! I love him.

10. This is good! I don’t know this song but I like the start and it’s quite catchy too

Everything Everything! They are another underated band, they are just great musicians, I was lucky enough to see them live when they supported Keane lat year and they were brilliant! You should check out their album!

11. This is country-ish too but I like it. The lyrics are simple and great, it’s just about getting older and changing, very nice :D

Frank Turner! He is slowly becoming more popular in the UK, because, well, he is great!

12. A slow one, I think this one is the only song I didn’t enjoy that much, but it’s not bad actually.

Oh really? It's by a band called Cherry Ghost who aren't very famous, but I am a big fan.

13. Sounds like Mumford and Sons, I mean, the voice. I’m almost sure it’s them but I don’t remember this song. It’s a good one, sounds kinda dark in a good way

It is Mumford & Sons, and this is my favourite song by them, it just builds up and then cools down at the end, fantastic.

14. Foals! Spanish Sahara. This song is so relaxing, I’m not too familiar with Foals but I like this song. I really like the part that starts around 4:20

I'm off to see him at Leeds Festival! Can't wait! :D

I'm off to see him at Leeds Festival! Can't wait! :D

I predict a riot

Apologies for my late review, but here it is finally.

My mixtape is called “Dunno my arse from my Elbow” with artwork depicting said graphic

Track 1: “this is the initial track” Sounded like Glasvegas at first, but very obviously not. Guitar’s probably the culprit there. There’s a whining guitar in there that sort of reminds of The National’s Abel, and some Jonsi like vocals in between. Can’t tell whether the singer American or Australian, but I’d guess Aussie.

Track 2: “nice whistling” Nice little acoustic tune, reminds me a bit of some of Simon And Garfunkel. I’m a big fan of troubadour music, and this ain’t too far away from that. Reminds me a bit of The Tallest Man On Earth...

Track 3: “this fella sounds like BRANDON FLOWERS” He does, and I don’t really like either singer. This is Noah And The Whale – L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Not too fond of the song or the album. It’s pretty bland.

Track 4: “you’ve probs heard this before” Indeed I have, this is my favorite Fleet Foxes song :awesome: Beautiful arrangement, I love the layered vocals. I think this is one of the best covers I’ve heard, can’t wait to see who it is!

Track 5: “a song about death, i think” for some reason this reminds me kiwi music my dad plays. Who knows, maybe it is? The tune is sort of gothic to me. I love the lo-fi guitar bit toward the end. Would sort of envision this being American, but would bet it’s

Aussie.

Track 6: “a classic aka an oldie” THIS is Simon and Garfunkel :P Cecilia. A great song. I hadn’t heard it before, though. I have a 3 CD collection with Sounds Of Silence, Bookends and one more. I love how it’s probably a whole lot older than a lot of the other tracks but still melts right in. Timeless.

Track 7: “sorry about the swearing” Swearing is fine. Actually didn't notice it. Is this Foals? Cause I feel like I’ve heard it before, and it’s got that indie-pop guitar sound to it  I might be wrong. I saw their stream from Coachella but don’t really know too much of their stuff. Good bassline as well.

Track 8: “i hope you like guitars #1” I do like guitar, especially this guitar. Reminds me a bit of the bassline to Come As You Are. I like the accompanying organ even more. Bottoms up!

Track 9: “keyboards stolen from The Birds” This guy sounds a lot like Robyn Hitchcock, so maybe Soft Boys? He’s pretty definitely Liverpoolian, though. Catchy song, I like it a

lot!

Track 10: “you said you like piano” I do! I sat a while trying to figure out what this reminded me of, and came the conclusion that it was a small Norwegian band. The piano part was maybe a bit cheesy with the string section and all, would have worked better without. Sounded a bit like a softer version of Muse.

Track 11: “a song about blankets” Sounds a bit like an 80’s ballad :\ don’t like this at all, those strings are just too much, sorry.

Track 12: “I hope you like guitars #2” Sounds a lot like track 5, sort of gothic American (though it’s probably Aussie). I love the chorus. It’s one of those that you know is great, cause you swear you've heard it before.

Track 13: “another song about dying” Acoustic guitar song with slightly philosophical lyrics, about dying. I like it, but there’s just something about that style of writing that bugs me. Idk.

Track 14: “this is the final track, see what I did there” clever  One of those songs with a memorable tune, like Rabbit Will Run. I like the anthemic part towards the end, before the crescendo…and after…sounds like Madrugada..

Actually reminded me a bit of Revolution played slower over a stronger acoustic guitar, and Elbow's Coming Second.

Overall I really liked the tape, it sounded a lot like kiwi/aussie lo-fi and indie. My favorite tracks would be 4, 5, 6 and 9, It’s got a nearly perfect flow. Great work!

Now a stab at my mixtape maker...

Graceful?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrr

Track 2: “nice whistling” Nice little acoustic tune, reminds me a bit of some of Simon And Garfunkel. I’m a big fan of troubadour music, and this ain’t too far away from that. Reminds me a bit of The Tallest Man On Earth...

IS THAT ANDREW BIRD??? I FUCKIN' LOVE ANDREW BIRD OH GOD

Overall I really liked the tape, it sounded a lot like kiwi/aussie lo-fi and indie. My favorite tracks would be 4, 5, 6 and 9, It’s got a nearly perfect flow. Great work!

Now a stab at my mixtape maker...

Graceful?

Haha, sorry Will but no, it's not me.

It would have been pretty cool for us to have switched places though :P

Nice to see you think I have good taste, though

Will, your tape looks awesome. I wanna listen to it. :wacky:
