The first few times I listened to it I thought "well geez, this is great but they could have done so much more with the vocals". I love it now, but first impressions are usually the best representation. I know I listed it as my favorite on my YouTube playlist, but really it's not (second favorite at the time).

 

same for me in that my first few listens I was so impressed and loved the song. But now it's nothing too special.

I took a quick peek at the new FTB video during my break at work, although I'm still not able to listen to it yet (will have to do that later at home).

 

 

My comments on the visual aspect:

 

• I don't like the camera work/angles. I'm hoping the rest will be different, but I highly doubt it will be. The lighting is annoying.
  
• I agree with what many of you have already said... Thomboy needs to cut his hair. And maybe he can take Ed with him. Most guys look better with shorter hair (no matter how cool they think they are being with longer hair), and that includes those two. Thom --> between HTTT/early IR era, Ed --> IR era. Please and thank you.
  

Haha, oh god. The Radioheads and me, we grew up in the Seventies, which means flared corduroys in kackbrown (if you were lucky) with tight tees in pissyellow, David Bowie and Boney M, teachers with sideburns, their hair combed over their balding heads in greasy wisps. To be somewhat able to listen to your favourite tunes, you would have to record them 'through' the air from the radio onto a shitty tape-recorder. Boys wore long hair and it was the first decade that they could do so without getting 'disciplined'.

 

And now, that we slowly get old and grey and wrinkled, please let us still have our hair the way we want. You kids seem so square sometimes, it's amazing. :P:wideeyed:

I think the new song is okay. Nothing spectacular, not like they reinvented the wheel and slapped some kick-ass rims on it while they were at it, or anything like that. It might grow on me though.

I do agree with you about the hair. The Eraser Thom was the best, haircut-wise. Same with Ed but then again, we haven't seen much of his hair, have we? Maybe he sports a Win Butler haircut! :lol: Anyway, I prefer them with shorter hair. :)

They... actually do at times. But I think it's just what their style is like these days. ATM, I think The Bends sound samey as well but I guess it was just their style. I dunno.

It's not that I don't like close-ups in general, it's just the way that it was done here. If you compare it to the previous FTB performance, it's so different. I mean, in one shot in the Staircase video all you see is hair flapping to and fro in the light. I don't wanna see that. The lighting throughout just doesn't seem, I don't know, "balanced". In many spots the lighting seems way too harsh. The first FTB performance was much more visually appealing in my opinion.

 

Of course, the visual part isn't really what matters anyway.

It is still an important factor and I can see how it can deter you from watching the show.
