Will LP5 be Coldplay's last album?

Featured Replies

if there is someday a Coldplay: the greatest hits, it would be released by EMI alone, without Coldplay, just as they did with Radiohead

They have 37 releases in total so far, including studio, live and compilation albums, EPs and singles.

Coldplay will never die... I hope in 3045 my offspring will be still listening to Coldplay...

 I can even imagine a YouTube comment in the Violet Hill video saying:

"Thumbs up if you're listening to this in 3045"

Yes it reminds me of Extras too! I still think they will probably release one, but as I say, once they get towards the end of their careers. It might be released by EMI, that's true.

I don't think it will be a bad idea to release one. It really would increase the chances of there being a Coldplay CD in every house in the world! After all, how many people do you know who have Queen's Greatest Hits, or the U2 ones. Loads of people. I could see CP's GH selling like that!

As for making fans pay more than once for music; how many times are we going to end up paying for ETIAW? Probably three times for me, taking into account that it was basically free when buying the ETIAW EP on iTunes.

ep`s, singles and b-sides

more eras for coldplay, the LP5 xyloto/xylobryte era is the middle of your lives

chris sing at 60 years old or more :)

^Haha, agreed. :)

In my country almost everyone has Beatles and AC/DC vinyls. At least one. :)

Imagine that in 50 years with Coldplay!

There's not many bands that keep going for 42 years continuously without breaking up for a long while first.

I doubt Coldplay will split up after LP5. I believe LP6 will come out relatively soon after LP5 compared with the gaps between LP's 2,3 and 4. Between any other future releases they could go their separate ways and do some of their own work but I think they'll always remain a unit prepared to go into the studio and continue making albums. They're a band who should not be worried by growing old. A lot of their listeners are "mature" should I say and they appeal right across the board. U2 and particularly R.E.M. have aged well and both are still releasing some really good stuff and stillvery popular after 30 years. I see no reason why they cannot make a lot more and continue for another 2 decades.

Absolutely not. As long as Chris and co. can write songs that they deem meaningful they will continue. Coldplay does everything with a purpose, they won't continue on and wear out their welcome (ie. Rolling Stones, Oasis, The Cure, etc.). They'll go out on top, but that'll only be when they absolutely feel that they are no longer relevant.

I don't see them going off and doing their own thing, Chris said that he would be nothing w/out the other boys. They're a democracy true and true.

The guys would be 70-something BUT OH WELL :P

That would be awesome :wacky:

I don't see Chris going solo but he'd continue collaborating/writing songs for other artists.

Yeah, I'd hate to see a bad Coldplay if in any reality it happens after 5 more albums. I can only see Coldplays quality decline slowly after Lp10 or 11, although they've probably written enough songs for the future that by now they're set for another 6 or 7 albums

Honestly, where is this even coming from?

Do the band seem like they're on their way out? If anything it's like they're finally getting UP THERE - in their minds (mine as well but if I said that a bunch of you would say how VLV and all the new LP5 stuff suck or something).

They wouldn't leave now. They've got AT LEAST two more albums in them after LP5 and I honestly believe they'll push them out faster now. I think we all expected a quicker turn around for LP5, but the fact is you're right about their age. I think they'll push two more albums out there quick and then after that who knows.

I really don't want them to become like U2 - hanging on for no apparent reason other than they can come up with somewhat good crap in their sleep. I want them to continue to push forward for as long as they can. It'll be a sad day when they say goodbye, but I'm glad I'm 21 as they're about to release their new album.

I think we can expect 10 more years of them and by that time I'll be 31 and I think I'll need them a little less.
